The principal, Ms. Brown, is only concerned about those students who are in the Magnet or Great Scholars program all others are a nuisance to her and her staff. Have an other older son that went there when Mrs. Colvin was there and I can tell the school has went down since she has left. When is St. George going to take over the school?

With my experience the first year with this school my transitioning from a school he had been at since 1st grade and then just jumping into a middle school at 7th grade I think the school was fine. he adjusted well and I was able to keep up with his assignments. Now homework I wasn't to pleased about because I didn't know if he had it or not but being my son is honest and is in the magnet program. He kept up with his work and I had no problem. The teachers had no problem keeping in touch and were good about answering any questions I had... Thank You Woodlawn Middle

Homework was never really given. I wasn't ready for high school when reality hit me in the face. They taught me 0 time management nor organization. I slept 90% of my middle school years.

I agree because every teacher in that school except one says that homework is to strengthen your understanding, not to use it as punishment.

They do try to get everyone to respect each other but some students are very stubborn and won't listen to a thing the staff says. Great school.

The principal, Mrs.Brown, is always making sure we are all respecting each other and making sure it is safe. She also tries to get everyone to not use profanity in the school.

I recently moved here from another state and fought to get my daughter in the great scholars program. We live in the neighborhood, and wanted to insure she got the best chance possible. After orientation today, I am not sure this is a good choice. Some of the administrators talk down to the kids, and the regulations regarding uniform border on institutional. The thing that got me the most is the thing that was said regarding the 2.25 gpa requirement. One administrator admitted it is Mediocrity, and also said that if they did not live up to the behavior standards they could go to those "other schools"... and they will see how truly bad it can be, and I guess yes for the transfer kids that's an option. In my mind threatening and talking down to kids while holding them to low standards does nothing to improve the deplorable situation MOST schools in EBR find themselves in. He is right about one thing, though.. Yep, they can go to other schools. So my advice is to find ONE for your kids.. This is not a place that empowers kids. It just squashes them down. Truly sad.

I just started at this school in November and I think while it's a good school they have too many regulations on what you wear. You can only wear shorts or pants and have to get special permission to wear skirts or dresses and also students can only wear the school sweatshirt or a sweater with no logo, no hood, and it has to be grey, white, purple, or black plus, they only allow sneakers while other schools allow students to wear boots and flats.They even put a ban on any shoes.I transfered from Westdale Middle School and there they put less regulations on their uniforms because the type of jacket you wear doesn't matter because it's a jacket and it's ridiculous at Woodlawn because sweaters and shoes are usually the only thing we can get creative with at school and we can't even do that there. So I think that the school should cut back on regulations on jackets, sweater, and shoes because students deserve to at least show a little style because that is the only way they can be able to show how they are on the inside through minimum ways like their shoes and hoodies or jackets or sweaters.

My daughter who is very quiet, 4.0 GPA, and never been in any trouble has been harassed and bullied constantly! It has gotten to the point that since school started, she has been involved in 2 fights!! Glasses broken and yet she still gets suspended for defending herself..my child is NO punching bag! So my child is punished for defending herself at school, and this goes in her permanent file! So something should be done as i was informed by the staff that these fights usually happens when the kids are changing classes; well IF you know this..then why dont teachers patrol the halls at this time...had a teacher been present when the girl hit my daughter in the head maybe it would stop! I have to explain to my daughter even though she did nothing wrong, she still has to be punished! Louisiana needs to open their eyes to all the violence that our kids are dealing with at school; and then they wonder why soo many kids bring weapons to school!! Its a call for HELP!!! I am sick & tired of having my daughter beat & bruised up..she goes to school to get an education..not to become an WWE fighter!!

My interaction with the administration has always been less than pleasant. I found myself on several occasions having to remind the individual i was speaking with that i am an adult and not one of the students that attend the school. i can only imagine how they treat the kids if they dont even know how to communicate effectively with adults. I dont think a few training classes on communication would hurt this administration at all!

I think this school does a good job and I am pretty surprised when the local neighborhoods pick the magnet school over this one. I've had children in the regular academic program and in the gifted and in the great scholar and with a few exceptions, they all had good teachers who did their best. I never had a dealing with the principal so I can't speak to that. The office staff is exceptionally rude. There is an amazing guidance counselor. I appreciate that they enforce the rules and dress codes. I think if you are going to make the rules, you should enforce them. Don't make any rules you aren't willing to enforce.

This school is a dream come true for southeast Baton Rouge. Those that made negative comments are the very FEW parents that think their child can do no wrong. Students that critize dress codes don't realize it is a safety issue. Intruders can be easily spoted and ID's must be worn in order to properly identify students. Every teacher returns every call. A record is kept of incoming calls and teachers turn in phone logs at the end of every year to prove call backs. Students that struggle are pulled from PE and electives for small group or individual intervention. Middle school is such a hard age for students , but WMS addresses the needs of the entire child. Just like parents have to discipline out of love, so does the school.

This school was a bust i had to move to another state to get a way from bullying wow but they have an anti bully policy they can kiss where the sun dont shine
