I rate Hynes at the very top of the scale. We have been so pleased with the progress just in three years (Pre-K 3 through kindergarten). Everything about Hynes has been positive, from office staff to teachers to programs to academics to principal!

Kindergarten level, an appropriate amount of homework M-TH, giving students (& family) a chance to reinforce skills, form good habits, but not become overwhelmed at this beginning stage.

there is no art,no PE,15 minute recess 15 minute lunches.there is no time for creativity or just being children.my child was so stressed out and that isn't normal for a 7 year old.homework would take up to 3 hours and would end in tears.all hynes prepares you for is getting high scores and making themselves look good on paper.myself and several other parents removed our children from hynes in the middle of the school year,that says a whole lot and that's just her class alone.

Hynes is an excellent school with a top-notch curriculum and wonderful extra-curricular activities. The faculty, staff, and families at Hynes are high-quality. Of all the public and private options we considered, we could not have made a better decision. Our children are thriving at Hynes. I can not praise the administration and faculty highly enough, particularly Ms. Michelle Douglas and Ms. Charmaine Williams!

I have a child in Kindergarten and another in 1st grade. We switched our kids from a local private school to Hynes. We were scared to death and spent many sleepless nights worrying about our decision. Let me tell you that we could not be happier. We feel certain that our kids are getting a better education than they were getting at the expensive, private school in our neighborhood. In fact, our daughter was BEHIND other kids in her Hynes class when she started the year! Of course the Hynes staff took notice and immediately got her the extra help she needed to catch up and now she is excelling. The teachers are wonderful, the staff is dedicated, communication with parents is phenomenal. The only improvement I see needed (and which I feel is getting better) is parental involvement. We have so many wonderful parents who give tirelessly of their time and talents but at the private school I would say nearly 100% of the parents would step up to the plate, so to speak, when asked and at Hynes, a few parents carry all the weight. But the staff? They give 110%! We are very pleased.

Hooray!!! The Hynes Husky Family has returned to its pre-Katrina site in a brand new, modern building at 990 Harrison Avenue!! The French Immersion program, Art, Band, Choir and all the sports teams now have plenty of room. The library and computer labs are amazing. Our children are thriving in an academically focused setting under the caring guidance of the talented staff and administration.

We visited many private schools in the area before visiting Hynes. I was so impressed with all Hynes had to offer, even in the less than perfect temporary building. The administration and teachers are dedicated and caring and there is a strong PTO. My child is in his second year at Hynes and we could not be happier with our decision.

From our first day at Hynes I felt as if we were part of a family. The principal, assistant principal, office staff, and teachers all know by children by name. There is a constant vein of caring and respect that exudes from the students, teachers, and staff. It is a wonderful, caring, loving, learning environment for my children.

The address listed on Carrollton Avenue is not current. That was a temporary address after the storm. The school is being rebuilt right now (due to flood/Katrina), and is currently housed on Gentuilly Blvd. Love love love this school! My daughter has attended since pre-K and now she;s in 7th grade! Can't wait until the new school is rebuilt in Fall 2011! The teachers are excellent, and parental involvement is great!

The faculty and staff are amazing. My daughter is in the gifted pre-K program and loves going to school everyday. She's learning french, music, and of course the basics and has just blossomed since she has been there.

This school has been through so much and despite still being displaced since the levees broke in New Orleans, they have maintained a positive attitude that is evident amongst both the students and the falculty.

I love Edward Hynes Charter school because 2 of the most important grand daughters are students there.. Hynes was destroyed in Katrina, but that didn't stop them they relocated to an older building that was another school, the teachers and staff so dedicated to getting the school going and back to normal for the many Hynes families! What an inspiration the entire staff and teachers are! I love the fact that my grandchildren will be bilingual! They are just now in the process of building their new building on the same lot as the school that was destroyed by katrina! These teachers could put a $20,0000 gift to such good use replacing many things they list and haven't been able to do because of lack if funds! The teachers care sooo much for their students and it shows as the students return that care and love back to them! Hynes is a wonderful school and so deserving of this gift!!!

I love Hynes school because the parents and teachers and students work together to make it the best school it can be. Nearly all of the teachers are highly qualified - and all are very interested in helping our kids do their best in school. I can email any teacher about any issue with either of my children, and will get a thoughtful, caring response. The teachers want the children to do well.

We love Hynes! This school is such a good match for my family. The teachers use evidenced-based curriculums, kids of various levels can succeed and they have French immersion programs!

At Hynes, every kid has their chance to shine. There are advanced programs so every kid can advance with their talent. Every teacher gives lots of fun, helpful projects. If you have trouble with anything, there is a teacher there to help. The principal and vice-principal walk around the school, helping out. They know almost every kid's name. They seem to actually care. There are few fights here. A lot of kids get high scores. Hynes is an awesome school.

Not the school for average Joe parents. French program is terrific. Mrs. Loghran in 1st grade is awesome, as I am a para at the school. Administration is quite unexperienced at handling problems. School is not the same as it was pre-Katrina.
