Horrible school in the BPS portfolio. It “looks” nice. With their “green” mission which doesn’t start until high school. The middle schoolers are lost. Fights break out daily in classes. Not a good environment for learning. Many of the students are violent. The teachers are afraid of them and have a button in the classroom to call for help from the violent students that throw chairs at teachers, curse them out and refuse to do any work. The bar is set so low for all the kids it is truly sad. This IS the school to prison pipeline that the kids & parents created -/ no one is to blame but themselves. Instead of putting unruly students in their place and disciplining them a blind eye is constantly turned. Students that hurt other students and teachers go to SST and return to chase in 30 minutes. What’s the point? They don’t want to be there, they don’t want to learn or behave-/ at a basic human level — why even try? It is a waist of tax payer dollars — it’s awful for the dedicated staff & unfortunate students — thank you school committee fir changing the entrance to exam schools so that kids that can’t to learn get shut out and have to be bussed across the city to attend a war zone of a school like this!
Shame on you! And shame on the administrators of this “school” for allowing these horrible kids to return to class again and again, and to disrupt the class, disrespect students and teachers again and again. Over and over again. Not all BPS schools are like this. This one is and needs to be shut down. If students are not safe and unruly kids are not put in place it is not ban institute for learning. Boston has the highest per pupil $$$ at $30k plus per gen ed student. What a waist.

The school is good but its not as good as it used to be mainly because of the middle school. The kids in grade 6-8 cause the most trouble, get into the most fights, are most likely to get suspended for their action. I have seen my teachers cry multi times because my class mates are so bad. The teachers are really nice and helpful its just the students are not always the best.

The teachers give homework that involve the things we learn in class. Most of the time the homework is classwork we didn't get to start or finish in class, and when we turn in the homework they go over it in class.

Seems to be if your are a student who follows the rules and actually care about your education, you are just another student. There is nothing more for these kids but to just fall in place with slow learners

I have a 7th grader who never has homework that she cant complete in school and she's lucky if it gets reviewed.

In 2yrs Ive never been allowed a parent teachers conference. My child has witnessed teachers crying in class because the students are so bad. It would be a great school if the teachers had time to teach or the kids were challenged. The middle school is terrible. I know my student can take on way more than is given but it seems like classes are for standard and below standard education.
Ive contacted her teachers to keep communication open but they don't contact me if she is not doing as well as she should. I feel like this was a bad choice and a waste of time for her.

This school had me at 'welcome' at orientation. My daughter is currently a freshman at BGA and I must say, I like what the school has to offer. I believe in what the school's mission is; which is to welcome diverse students of all abilities, educates, empowers, and prepares them to sustain and succeed in college, life and in the world. The teachers actually care about the students' well being and academics. And as a parent, that's all I can ask for. While her father and I are busy working during the day, I rely on the teachers to help mold my child's intellect, protect, support and help build her character. BGA has improved a great deal over the years and any parent or student should be proud to be a part of the BGA Family. I know we are.
