My experience has been worth it! I appreciate the teachers that are strong at this school to teach our children in a fun and exciting way. I had a lovely experience with my child's teacher, Ms. May; the effort, strong dedication and determination to teach my child with special learning needs was all worth it. The new admin. staff that really put their continue to efforts to make sure my child thrived in a learning environment that was challenging for my child really speaks volumes to support Greencastle needed. The admin. staff worked very hard to provide my child with the correct tools. This year was not easy but we pushed through with such great support. Working together with the school as a parent make it much more easier for my child and Greencastle did that this school year & I am grateful!!

Mrs.Dean and Mrs.Hernandez are a strong admin team! & the teachers are truly wonderful and what make the school great. My daughter has always had remarkable, caring teachers and also worked with a strong resource team who are extremely dedicated. My daughter also enjoys the friendships shes made.

This elementary school was honestly the best, even if I only attended this school from 4th-5th grade. Most of the kids there are fine and there's rarely any fights, but the bathrooms stink. The teachers are engaging and encourage you to learn. They also sometimes give out free food whenever it's a special event like Thanksgiving or Christmas. As a student that recently graduated from this school back in 2024, this school is overall a good one, and I recommend you enroll your kids there.

This is a good and caring elementary school. I have two children attending school here and I have seen first-hand the extra effort that is being given by the Principal, teachers and staff to help the children succeed.
We receive regular telephone/voicemail and email updates from the Principal. There is also a gazette/newsletter that does a roundup of important information. Enough and relevant homework is given.
The Principal is genuinely engaged and accessible. The classrooms are clean and have big projector screens/Promethean boards that make it easy to see what is being taught.
During the pandemic, there was quick transition to online learning and as a by-product children became very computer savvy and able to easily navigate zoom platform.
There is emphasis on listening to feedback from Parents on how the school can improve. Extra-curricular activities are also available including music and basketball.
I especially like the emphasis on parent-teacher conferences where more than one teacher who teach your child give you respectful feedback on your childs performance and areas for improvement with an aim to helping the child to succeed.
The diversity of students is good, it feels like an international school.
A few downsides however, Chromebook/laptops tech support could be better. It would be great if the road outside the school can be resurfaced and if the crosswalk lines can be repainted to make them more visible.
Additionally, it would be helpful to install flashing speed signs on either side of the road to help slow traffic down. The signs that say speed limit is x and your speed is y.
I asked my children what they like about Greencastle Elementary School and they said, they like their friends and teachers, plus they like math, reading, writing, art, recess, PE, social studies, thrilling Thursday, fun Friday, counselors, office staff, nurse, cafeteria staff and janitor (he works so hard and is very nice).

Leadership is approachable, responsive and involved. There are plenty of opportunities for parents to give feedback.

My child is an advanced learner and her instruction has been differentiated so that she is challenged.
Posted: April 16, 2020
The minor issues we've had have been dealt with effectively and with concern and compassion for all involved.

The new principal is probably not the right fit for the Greencastle community. The community is demanding with many needs. Principals best suited must have firsthand knowledge, passionate, approachable and transparent. Those atleast at the surface are currently lacking. The atmosphere and lack of school - parent - community interaction and communication definitely needs to be improved. However, the teaching staff is superb and that is key and probably the saving grace, but still solid leadership is needed at the helm.

Great school with friendly and courteous staff. Very involved in the community. Current rating doesn't do this school justice.

The staff is very caring and goes above and beyond daily. The PTA and parents work closely with the staff to provide assistance and great cultural events. There are over 800 students but the office and administration works patiently with the parents and students.

Great teachers and students. New Principal coming in for the 2014 - 2015 school year. I hope it is our awesome Assistant Principal Mrs. Ruth.

Most of what has been said about Greencastle is true, especially with the instability of leadership(Principal) in the school. This has got to change. There are great students and teachers but during RECESS more attention needs to be given to the kids.I have had 3 kids injured severly during recess.
Posted: November 5, 2013
1. younger students get hurt a lot during recess because the recess staff is not watching them! 2. monthly homework instead of daily homework (which doesn't not benefit the students, only the teachers) 3. principal is not listening to the parent's concerns 4. some incompetent teachers

At first, Greencastle was ok.. but based on recent incidents, I realized how rude the principal and his secretary were towards concerned parents. The secretary raises her voice and talks to parents like they're not educated or something. The principal, Mr. Payne does not care about parent's concerns at all. He just let other people in his staff "deal" with you.

I am a community member and a former teacher from this school. It has come a long way and is only getting better!!! Today, as the assistant principal, I am proud that we are on our way to be a National School of Character...AND that we have met adequate yearly progress every year on the state assessments! Principal Kevin Payne, is just the Leader the Noble Knights need at the Castle! Under his leadership, the Students, Staff, and Families are thriving!

I just completed my first year as a staff member at Greencastle. I was very impressed with the students and the staff. This school has met the state benchmark for the passed 12 years. Based on county climate data, parents and students seem very happy with the school. I will let you know how year two goes...

my daughter recently started attending Greencastle and we are so pleased with the proffessionalism of the staff, the effort and concern from the teachers. She came from a private school and we are not dissappointed with our descision to transfer her to this school.
