The teachers that I've encountered are great. They really seem to be invested in my kids' future. Some of the kids are a bit rough, so they have their hands full, but they work hard for the kids that work hard for them. :-) They have a decent AFJROTC program. I use that term very loosely, but I may be a bit biased because I come from the Parkdale HS era of Colonel Thompson. But anywho....

I have 2 kids here. One is thriving, honor roll student, plays sports, participates in programs and even got her current job by participating in the Hillside Works Program. The other child almost failed and skipped class constantly.

I point this out because like every other situation in life, you get out of Potomac HS what you put in. The programs are there, the good teachers are there, and they even have a new Principal that is looking to bring in even more programs. I look forward to the new changes. Overall, it's not a bad school at all.

When I attended the Potomac it was the best experience by far. I come from the south where the school systems don't give a child of color a fair chance in learning. By far the teachers and staff really care about what they are teaching the youngsters that attend the school. The youth just has to be willing to accept and grasp the teachings.

Is it too much to think that stakeholders should exercise a reasonable level of confidentiality and/or discretion? My concern about this school is related to the way administrators handle issues. I sent a letter to a stakeholder requesting clarification of whether or not an instructor's remarks in class were appropriate. The letter was forwarded to others (including students). The content of the letter became a debate within the class. This may not have been an issue except that personal information (email) was contained within the document. Iv'e heard complaints from others with regard to administration, and I hope they make every attempt to improve they way concerns are handled. It would be unfair to rate this school at this time, but becaue I must in order to post, I will give a 2 star on this incident.

My daughter has been going here for all three years of high school, and I can say that the negative reviews here are old, out-dated, and no longer true. Any negative aspects of the school are the fault of the parents in the community, and their inability to care for their children properly. The parents at this school only seem to care about sports-- and even then their participation is still low. The administration could involve the community more, but it's getting better at this. Overall, I'm happy to send my daughter to Potomac rather than Suitland, Crossland, or even Oxon Hill HS.

I AM Student Of Potomac AND I Wanna Say Potomac Is Not Really A Bad school AT All I Mean SOME Students do Get Out of Line But the Teachers && Staff Itself Are Doing A Very Good Job Themselves I'm An Graduate Of 2011 And I Loved My Every Year At Potomac The Students Are Very Open Outspoken People && The Teachers Are More Helpful Than Ever I Reccomend Potomac High For A Schools && Promise You You'll be A Proud Wolverine :)

You know... Its my daughter's first year here. My main complaint is transportation. In less than a month, the school bus has failed to pick-up children at our stop! Other than that, I haven't had too many issues. So far, the instructors and staff seem genuinely involved in the children's education and participation. I would like to say that I don't see as many parents as I would like during events (e.g. homecoming parade: I saw perhaps one or two parents; back-to-school night: The head of the PTSA informed us there were only 10 members; during classroom visits, there were never more than four parents getting acquainted with teachers *shocking*). The children that I have come into contact with, when picking-up my child after Drill practice (of which the Commander stays until the last child is gone), seem really well-mannered and courteous (nothing like I expected! I admit, I thought the worse.) I understand there may be children in the school who aren't informed of their worth (will not call them bad) but I have yet to come in contact with them. I think the school could be a bit more organized. Its like they're on the cusp of something new and are still figuring things out.

I must say that I haven t heard many quality comments about Potomac High from parents or students on this site or otherwise. However the comments are very limited, there are only 14 posts from 2008- 2004. This is my son first year at the school and he is coming from an awful PG county school, Suitland High. I m happy that he is out of there and can only encourage him to do better, try harder, be thankful for a fresh start, and stay prayed up and faithful that he will be paired with teachers and students that share his spirit and have his educational needs at heart. What I have found to be true is that it s extremely hard to support your child in a school system that doesn t return your calls or emails or simply isn t available. We need to support each other and this website is a great avenue to do so! Make sure that you and your child use it! Report all things that are going on at Potomac. These are our children s last years of public school let s see them cross that stage. Maybe the school board will hear our collective voices.
