My experience at OCES is mostly a bitter one. As a former student I would go back for a lot of reasons. The teachers are usually on power trip most of the time and don't seem to care about students. In third grade I had a rough experience with a friend telling the entire grade my crush. My classmates were talking and the teacher overheard it. Want to know what she told me. That I was too young to have a crush when it's perfectly normal at that age. It put a burden on me that I was wrong and what I felt was wrong and that I shouldn't be feeling what I was feeling. I didn't want to talk with the school consular because the admin would always take teachers sides. It puts a rift from feeling safe to walking on eggshells. No kid should have to experience that. Would not recommend going to OCES just go to Buckingham or Showell you will be better off there.

The only good things i can say about this school - are things that are long gone! I have 5 kids- 3 already out of elementary age- and 2 are in the school now!
The school was AMAZING - in the past ! I cant believe its the same school anymore!
Teachers are not caring or engaging.
Parents are no longer invited to be involved, no more award ceremonies, no AR program , their students of the month program is biased , and in general it feels that the school is riding the COVID excuse in order to avoid parents involvement!
Cant wait to move to BIS. To me its no longer a BLUE RIBBON!

Great school, principal and teachers are great. No issues would highly recommend.

My child is in the 4th grade. We can not wait to finish this school year in hopes for a better experience in a new school next year. I say that with most of the school year ahead of us still.

From what I have gathered, teachers are more prepared for disciplining children then educating them. As a parent I have had my child come home with work that he has seen for the first time with no basic knowledge of the assignment. When I participated in American education week, I saw first hand how the teachers skimmed over lessons without putting in the work.

I have heard nothing but good things about OCES. Your Blue Ribbon Award of Excellence is outstanding. I respect your accomplishments. I am a OC taxpayer and I overheard a conversation about the supply list this summer. Requesting 15 glue sticks for Grade 1, 12 glue sticks for Kindergarten, 8 glue sticks for Pre K, 20 Ticonderoga pencils for K, and 30 Ticonderoga pencils for Grade 1 etc. seems to be a bit much. (That's just 2 items on the list of many ) Based on the number of tax payers in OC who do not have kids in the school system , the enormous supply list dealt to parents seems a hardship. Our tax dollars need to be redirected to your schools. As an educator in another county, your list should be reviewed and approved by the Board of Education.

An excellent school where parents involvement is very encouraged. We were faced with a very difficult situation this year, we found out that our younger child had a life threatening illness. Since we had to stay in a hospital for many days, our older child was not able to attend school for a month. Her teacher was very understanding and extremely helpful. She continued calling us frequently offering her words of encouragement and ensuring us that she will do everything to make sure that our child will do well even with this extended absence from school. We will be forever grateful.
