My son loves this school, however, afterschool (aftercare program) has caused him to come home very upset. The staff is very rude and often leaves sarcastic remarks under their breath. My son is in 4th grade, it may just be the staff of his grade level but there is no excuse for the way he says he is treated.

So Archbishop neale school kicked out this kid for no reason he had good grades and i dont know what the principal was talking about and the principal was very rude

I had high hopes for this school. Having gone to Catholic school myself for K-8th grades in Upstate New York, I cherished that experience and wanted my son to have the same great experience. We enrolled him in the the Archbishop Neale pre-K program. The problems began almost immediately. The teachers were experiencing behavior problems in class. Apparently our 4 year old was having trouble adjusting to their standards and exhibiting too much energy and independent thought, to the point it was becoming disruptive in class. We tried working with the teachers and guidance counselors, tried various methods of behavioral mitigation but nothing seems to achieve the results they expected of 4 year olds. He was constantly being held at the principals office for bad behavior. Within a month he was deemed too disruptive to other students and we were asked to find different education for him, he was no longer welcome. Later it was determined that he had ADHD and Anxiety, PTSD no doubt induced by their inept handling of the issue. I get the fact that they aren't doctors, but you'd think they'd be able to see what was happening and hazard the guess... at least the counselor. Now with medication for his disability, he is doing better in the public school system. He still suffers from what seems like depression whenever we pass ANS going to and from La Plata. He always mournfully comments on the friends he left behind at ANS because he had to leave as he was "bad". Non-conformity with their expectations, regardless if it stems from a disability or not, constitutes "bad children" who must be punished. I think had his disability been diagnosed earlier the story may have ended differently, instead the school kicked him out within a month of starting and then tried to keep all the tuition we had pre-paid for the entire year. We asked for a prorated refund based on his early removal, they wouldn't event consider it before I contacted the Archdiocese of Washington to intervene. The kind folks at the Archdiocese worked a miracle and what was once impossible became possible. Weather through inability or unwillingness, they failed my child. Their inability to detect the signs of a well known and documented childhood disability, and their unwillingness to show any form of empathy would be appalling at any educational institution... it is especially appalling at a Catholic/Christian school. Save your time and children's well-being, look elsewhere for their education.

ANS has always been a really good school with a caring teaching staff. The biggest concerns right now are turn over with staffing and outdated educational material compared to other schools.

There is a new principal which is making some positive changes to help the school grow. Hopefully, she is researching other schools and will get our children up to speed with the acedemic resources other schools have available to their students.

The negatives of the school is the office staff and recent staff changes. The morning receptionist is condescending and patronizing. The afternoon receptionist treats you like are a pest or a vagrant if you have to pick your children up early. Besides the principal, Mrs. Lockrow is the only shining genuine person in the office. It is obvious she cares about the children and the school.

There are a lot of parents that have moved into paying roles at the school so it is hard to determine if your child is getting impartial academic experience.

One impressive thing that I love about the school is the afternoon carpool. I love that members of the teaching staff wave to the students as they are leaving the school. Very impressive!!!!!

Overall very good school with some minor issue that need to be corrected.

My son is in first grade this year at ANS and his teacher, Mrs. Gardiner, is very patient and a great teacher. She sent a syllabus home the 1st week which laid out in detail the homework protocol. It is up to us as PARENTS to also make sure we are actively involved with our children's academics. The teachers are there to lay the academic foundation for the fundamentals, but we, PARENTS, must build upon that foundation each and every day by doing some academic activity with our children - even when he/she does NOT have homework. That is how children develop better academic skills, period..

We have had a great experience thus far at ANS. Our son has attended ANS from preK through 1st grade (his current grade). We even attempted a public elem school for which we are zoned (which is highly rated), however, our son simply did not like it and missed his "community" at ANS. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities, and we currently volunteer within the sports activity segment.

I have had two children go through ANS. We have been very satisfied with the level of education and Christian values they have acquired.

ANS is a fantastic school. I've had 2 children go through ANS and they are very respectful and considerate of others. ANS gave them the foundation to be the best they can be. Awesome school, teachers and staff.

Great School! Teachers do a great job and are very friendly. Love all the activities for the students. My children are very happy there.

My child has had a wonderful experience at ANS. He transferred from another highly rated Catholic school two years ago barely able to read. He is now able to read at grade level and is amazing at spelling. I cannot thank the teachers and staff enough for their hard work and support.

Archbishop Neale School is a great school, wonderful environment. My Oldest went there for Middle school while my 2 younger ones are still. We have been here for 5years and would not have chosen a better school. We live in Waldorf and had the option of another catholic school in waldor but happy we chose ANS.

I sent my child here from k-3rd grade and I loved the school. As my son loved the school also. I love the class sizes. The teachers are willing to stay involved with every child and make sure you know how your childs is doing and what to do to help them better there education. We are moving to another state or wenwould be there this year.. Although I have seen people say that they didn't feel there child got the same treatments that others received. My child is the one thats likes to talk, play and I felt they where just as equally with all childern no matter how good or bad they did.

I am a parent with two children in Archbishop Neale School. They have both been there since Pre-K. My oldest is now in middle school there. We have not had any problems with the school that have not been addressed immediately and taken care of in a manner that we have found acceptable. Since the school has been rebuilt after the tornado, they have taken many steps to keep it looking like new. The teachers are available by e mail and have always responded immediately. We live in King George County VA and choose to bring our children to ANS. Many of my neighbors are choosing to home school their children because of the school system here in VA. I am glad we have another option. Our commute is not far. There are lots of parents in MD that travel farther than us. We carpool with several families and only drive 2 times a week. (20 miles in each direction) The carpool has made us fast and long lasting friends. The children get to pass on their knowledge to the younger children as well.

My daughter transferred here to the 3rd grade from another School. She loves the Teacher's and didn't have a problem fitting in, she has been here for 3 years now. It's a great environment.
