We really enjoyed Jessup. Both my kids thrived here. The teachers they had were amazing and the school principal, assistant principal and administration were great. They had a few incidents in the area that resulted in lockdowns but the school every necessary precaution. None of these incidents were related to the school itself.

Do not like this school at all the women that Work here are really arrogant and rude. My husband and I had orientation for our son. Just so happened we noticed our daughter in the cafeteria we were waving at her so a couple of the other kids started waving back as well. The assistant principal approached us like she was the police asking us 101 questions as if we owed her a explanation to why we were standing there waving at our child obviously we HAD visitors passes so we belonged there and was there for a reason After she continued to act like she works for the POLICE DEPARTMENT she then introduced herself at the end as if she was somebody important and told me and my husband that we could have went in the cafeteria to say hi to our child then proceeded to say oh, only one of you can go and told me I could start walking to the front meanwhile, when my husband went into the cafeteria to see our daughter, she followed him and stood beside him until he left as if she was a security guard HOW DARE YOU!!!! That was very rude and degrading and apparently, we were SUCH distraction to the other kids the fact that all of the teachers were so worried and concerned to why we were standing by the cafeteria waving AT OUR CHILD who they could clearly see standing and saying HI why wouldn’t they offer us to come into The cafeteria everything that happened was like a spit in the face and a way for them to be controlling. I will be pulling my kids from this school soon they suck anyway they tried to be on a power trip and tell you when you can and cannot visit your child. I refuse to let my kids be a part of this garbage school Like I said these people especially the ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL disgusting HUMAN BEINGS for the way they handled this situation and they are not welcoming here whatsoever they make you feel like you’re wrong for visiting your child what parent is going to keep walking as if they don’t see their child and their child don’t see them. The combination of excellent faculty, rigorous academics, outstanding facilities, a diverse community, and a wide array of extracurricular opportunities has made this school a five-star school. I am grateful for the education and experiences my daughter has gained here, and I would wholeheartedly recommend Jessup elementary to anyone seeking an exceptional educational institution.

We have been here for Kindergarten and 1st grade and have had a great experience. The teachers and administrators have helped our boys grow with the proper support.

I am writing this review to show appreciation for Jessup Elementary. The school has been really good for my daughter. My daughter has been at Jessup Elementary for nearly two years.

Some things new parents might like to know, the school is located in a safe place. The school is fairly new, so the facilities and classrooms are up-to-date. The teachers have been really good. I have been surprised by how nice the children are. Boys and girls, always saying hi and bye to each other. Happy to see each other. The school has good diversity.

Education wise, I see noticeable, positive development. We have been fortunate to have great teachers. Now she is in first grade and is able to read.

I am an alumni from this school. I felt like this school could have done better with our class because I felt like I didn't learn anything. The teacher didn't really focus on the kids who were ahead she only really cared about the other kids. Once I graduated from there I went to a Catholic school. I was in the above grade math class, so I didn't really know what was going on at all. I also felt like my teacher treated us like babies. She was a young teacher, I get it, but I feel like she could not have spent so much time on some subjects. The work that we learned was just stuff that I learned the year before in another school. I also think that it was weird that students in the fifth grade didn't even know their multiplication table. The teacher didn't even try and teach the students their multiplication facts. I was one of the only kids who knew how to do them and I was 1-2 years younger than everyone else. I feel like the teacher could have tried to see what people were good at and what we weren't good at. I know it is weird that a 7th grader is writing a review on a school, but this really ruined my chance of getting into the National Junior Honor Society in my new school. It is really embarrassing being one of the only students in my class that weren't induced. Also, the students in my class weren't properly taken care of. They would always get in trouble, and would be annoying during class. My teacher didn't really do a good job of keeping peace in the class. She wasn't strict enough for my liking. Overall, the school is good its just that some of the teachers need a bit more experience.

School is horribly mismanaged no one ever reaches out no one ever returns calls. Apparently the only way to get anything around there is by who you know and what they can get from you.

There will be a brand new 40 million dollar Jessup Elementary opening in 2019 that will be amazing. Jessup is a good school with great teachers and students. My daughter is very happy at the school and has made a lot of friends. When I have a a problem or issue Jessup teachers are quick to work with me to make things right. The teachers communicate well and work with the students and their parents to help everyone succeed. The front office is helpful and nice and a pleasure to deal with. There is technology in every classroom and the school has an Enhanced STEM Focus so that every grade gets DTEM once a week.

We have seen significant improvements throughout the school over the past two years. Jessup Elementary is the 1st Leader in Me school in Maryland, a Green School and received a significant technology grant, allowing enough iPads for all students! The teachers are dedicated and listen to parents. Jessup teachers challenge my children, which is to me one of the most important aspects of the learning environment. Thoroughly pleased parent.

My son has attended this school since Kindergarten and has had a great experience. There are some bad children at this school but honestly only a select few. As parents we choose to be very involved in his schooling. We have hand selected each teacher and so far my son has loved them all. The hours are good and may parents are involved when it comes to volunteering. It seems this schools bad rap is not deserved in my opinion. For those who are saying negative things about Ms. Dempsey (Principal) we have seen only good things from her. She seems to be involved, arriving at school early and staying late. The school is clean and small which we like as well. All in all this school is a good choice and do not be swayed by the less than perfect reputation. The kids are good and well mannered and as a parent you have to be involved in any school that your children attend.

Ms. Dempsey is the worse principal I have ever came in contact with. My oldest had Ms. Dempsey at Manor View Elementary school and Ms. Dempsey does not care about the students we had a lot of problems with my child's teacher and Ms. Dempsey wouldn't do anything about this teacher bullying my child so we had to go to the school board over it. So we moved and my child started going to Jessup Elementary school until Ms. Dempsey was moved to Jessup and we again pulled our child out of the school. Ms. Dempsey told us as long as she is the principal of the school my child goes to she (my child) would not succeed. I feel for all the students, staff and parents who have to deal with Ms. Dempsey. When Ms. Dempsey was at Manor View elementary so many teachers and staff moved to other school or quit their jobs. We lost some amazing teachers and staff because of Ms. Dempsey. There were many parents pulling their child/children out to home school them.

I could not disagree more with the last parents negative tone towards the other parent for voicing their opinion. It is pretty assuming and insulting to state that the person providing feedback is not involved. My child has been at Jessup for 3 yrs. I'm very involved. I have to be because the standard of teaching my child has received this year has been less then acceptable. Had it not been for my involvement and intervention, I'm not sure that my child would have ever gotten the assistance he needed to be successful. There have been some wonderful teachers who had a passion for teaching and do their jobs incredibly well. There are others there purely to collect a paycheck and barely teach. I found the guidance counselor exceptionally rude when I brought these issues to her attention. Thankfully, my son's teacher went out on leave and the substitute has been amazing. He's really done a 180 with her because she cares enough to actually work with him. I can't comment on the principle because she's never called me back when I have reach out to her and I was told she was too busy to speak with me when I was at the school.

Jessup offers tremendous possibilities for every child (as well as staff and family members)! (I'm shocked at the negative feedback provided by the previous parent. Anyone who states that the Principal doesn't care about the children, doesn't know the Principal - and couldn't possibly be very involved at the school! It's wearisome hearing complaints written by un-involved parents. If you see a "hole/gap", then step up and volunteer - and make a difference! School-wide success depends on everyone's involvement and drive.) Jessup staff, teachers and families are phenomenal! (As in any school/organization, there are those key individuals that choose to "make a difference" - and the family members that volunteer & the individual teachers and staff that "go the extra mile" are AMAZING!) Jessup youth will be the future leaders of our community and nation! Don't miss out on an incredible opportunity! Come to Jessup and make a contribution/grow/progress!

This school is horrible, due mostly due the administration. The principal is rarely accessible and doesn't care at all about the kids, I don't think she has any idea what she's doing. Some teachers are great, others are awful and nothing is done about it. There's no consequences for anything at this school. I do not feel safe having my child attend. Some of the teachers are condescending and rude to both parents AND STUDENTS (think: teacher cliques), others are absolutely WONDERFUL...I feel bad that their dedication isn't truly rewarded at Jessup. Until a new principal is moved in, this school is going downhill fast. I can't wait to have my child out of here and I've heard many people pull their kids out to home school.

This year was my daughters first year at Jessup Elementary. She had the best first grade teacher ever (Ms. Lanman)!! My daughter came home and talked about her teacher everyday! I love the parental involvement and I had the chance to participate in several school activities alongside of my daughter. The staff is very caring and they made my daughter feel extra special! I would recommend this school to anyone :-)

Most of the teachers are great Miss Laman a first grade teacher is outstanding great person and teacher. The Principal is ok but I feel she takes concerns lightly. I feel jessup needs a good scrubing for it is not the cleanest of schools. What I love about the school is they are open to parent involvement.

I feel bad for this school. They are getting a horrible principle next year. She came from Manor View where she bullied the teachers and staff. More than half of the teachers quit because of her. She doesn't care about the students or the families. She has been in trouble with the BOE but they have yet to fire her. It took 8 years to get her out of Manor View. Good luck to the families at Jessup. You'll need it.

I was a student at Jessup and but I'm in high school now. While I can't tell you about it now I can tell you that when I went to there it was the best. I wouldn't have wanted to go any where else, I loved it :D

My son is having a lot of bullying problems at this school. I am so tired of the stress of not knowing what's going to happened to my child. He's was the type to love school, but know he rather stay home. If your child have tough skin this is the school for them. If not, look else where. I don't want anyone to go through what I'm going through now.

Jessup is a great school. The teachers and staff really listen to the kids and help them when they need it. They are super encouraging, and always give the children a sense of self worth and accomplishment.

As a teacher who has been at a lot of different schools through out the county, I can honestly say that the students and staff at Jessup are outstanding. The school is diverse in the truest sense of the word. I truly love teaching these students and working with their families.

I have had at least one of my children at Jessup Elementary for 7 years and have another 4 years to go. The teachers are outstanding. They care about the kids and truely go the extra mile to help them succeed. The administration is supportive and it is constantly working to implement new and exciting programs to keep the kids interested in learning and to help them thrive.

the principal is driving good teachers away because she demands too much data and tests rather than interesting motivating lessons.More people would say something but the teachers seem scared. what can parents do but send there kids somewhere else?
