I cannot recommend this school based on my family’s experience.

One of the most disappointing aspects has been the lack of communication and accountability. Even when students put forth genuine effort and actively try to succeed academically, they often feel overlooked rather than supported. As a parent, I found communication with both staff and administration to be inconsistent and frustrating, making it difficult to advocate for my child when issues arose.

Don’t be swayed solely by awards, rankings, or recognition given to the principal, Dr. Durr. Those accolades did not reflect the experience my family had. In our experience, the focus was not on supporting students or correcting mistakes when concerns were brought to the school’s attention.

Unfortunately, we also encountered teachers and staff whose professionalism left much to be desired. Rather than working collaboratively with students and parents to find solutions, concerns were often dismissed or inadequately addressed.

Every student deserves a school that values communication, accountability, and a genuine commitment to helping them succeed. Sadly, that was not our experience here, and I hope future families have a better one than we did.

Meade High School is an outstanding institution that provides students with a strong foundation for success in both academics and extracurricular activities. As a parent of two Meade High graduates, I can confidently say that this school has played a crucial role in their achievements.

One of the school's greatest strengths is its exceptional language programs, which offer students valuable communication skills and cultural understanding. The JROTC program is top-tier, instilling discipline, leadership, and teamwork that prepare students for future careers and education. Additionally, the special education program is outstanding, ensuring that all students receive the necessary support to excel.

Beyond academics, Meade High has a state-recognized music department, showcasing incredible talent and dedication. The school's facilities are also impressive the campus looks amazing, creating a welcoming environment for learning. Above all, Meade High is led by an incredible principal who truly cares about the students, fostering a culture of growth and success.

My daughter graduated from Meade High and went on to earn a Master's degree in Business with a minor in Finance and Accounting, a testament to the strong academic foundation she received. My son, another proud graduate, is well on his way to completing his Associate's degree in Game Design and Game Development at Anne Arundel Community College.

Meade High School has played a significant role in shaping my children's futures, and I highly recommend it to any parent looking for a school that truly supports its students in achieving their dreams.

As with any school it’s what you make of it. There are plenty of opportunities for a student who wants to excel in stem, sports or the arts.

Before school, you had a lot of daily problems. But now the entire staff has changed and the school is a little safer.

The reputation this school received is based on outdated information and is inconsistent with my child’s experience. Please keep in mind that a lot of the reviews written are by upset students who have had disagreements with teacher, etc.

Mr. Durr ( principal) has done a tremendous job with the staff and students.

the school really sucked. I am a senior and they treat me like i'm in elementary school. I can't use my phone to even text my mom. We have been on lockdown multiple times because people bring guns. DO NOT let your child in to JROTC the people who run it will make your child want to die. Everyday I walk in and want to die. I also told my counsellor that my teacher made me want to die and she didn't do anything about it.

My eldest daughter only attended this school for 2 months before we decided to pull her out. It was absolutely terrible and a complete culture-shock for her. She experienced threats, drug-use, bullying, sexual harassment and racism towards her because she’s white (the school is majority black). The students caused constant interruptions in class and nothing was ever done. Students would be making Tik Toks videos in class and yelling at the teachers, calling them the n-word and threatening violence. The school is also very overcrowded, and walking from class to class was difficult for my daughter. She once said she spent 9 mins on the stairs trying to get to her next class because there was just that many students in the halls. Everyday she went to school scared because of the weekly fights that would happen, and she wasn’t being challenged at all. She said some of the work was stuff she learned in middle school (she’s an 11th grader).

So if you’re a military family, like us, do your child(ren) a favor and move off-bas so they don’t have attend this school.

Teacher assistants don't get treated very well. I had one that was excellent but she didn't seem happy and I like to see
People happy.

My daughter is was an overseas student that came from Kenya all the way to arundel county to seek better education and schools to help her pre for college. Meade high school prepped my daughter in amazing ways. She is now attending Harvard law! I cannot thank the teachers enough for helping my daughter in all ways possible!

Excellente expérience. My son is in IB at Meade. He is graduating this year. His teachers are beyond amazing. He loved every single day at Leade. Very strong leadership. Amazing curriculum and excellent counselor. He convinced his sister to go for IB at Meade in 2 years.

Its a bad school, its a shame that this is the designated school for the military.
This is a mile or so from Fort Meade, Cyber Headquarters / Washington DC ground zero.
Its an insult to active duty and to students from parents who work in the local economy to have such substandard school. My kids were in Florida, and over there we thought we had seen the worst, but that was a school outside the ring of a military city, not like Fort Meade. Right across the street is a prison!!!! and a few blocks down a strip joint of liquor stores, barber shops, tattoo parlors, tire stop place. For years the roads around the school have been under construction.

READ, and don't complain you have not been warned, if you are sold the ticket that you are going to the Crème de la Crème at Cyber Command Headquarters, think twice. My kids do not want to attend that school even if they are paid, they even told me that if I get orders back to MD they are not going if the school is MHS.

There are very strong offensive words that I rarely use, but there are some that should apply to this school.
Lets recap the first day of enrollment for my children. Here is the lady at the front desk in what seems to be half an office, her desk slammed against the wall, and barely any space for us to stand between her desk and the back wall, NO CHAIRS!!!! We are just like soldiers reporting for duty standing (as we cannot sit, there is no space). She is eating a sandwich and in between bites she is talking to us, (I thought there was some candid camera hidden somewhere or some kind of joke going on). She managed to mumble something while she was chewing as we proceeded with the paperwork. Later we talked to her assistant, and I almost tripped over, as the carpet was bent, and some extension cords running across the floor in the other office. As mad as I was, I really had to laugh, what a joke of school, a series of goofballs running a circus school show.

The school IS racist, not only to black, but to other ethnicities.
The school is outdated, the children could not hear the teachers because each room has a window air conditioner from the stone age, and every time the compressor kicked in, out the window went what the teacher was saying.

Outside, not a tree or a roof for the children to protect themselves from the elements, snow, hail, rain, good luck with that.

Stay away at all costs!

The guidance counselors do not return phone calls.
I have called repeatedly to reach one and transferred to phone numbers that just ring...and ring...and ring.
There customer service is terrible & whomever answers the phone has no answers and always seems confused.

My daughter is involved with the MHS Band and I volunteer much of my time with the Band. It is a very large school, hence many issues. But the principal and admin really seem to be on top of things. They act as soon as something is reported and then he informs the parents. They encourage "if you see something, say something" as well as "respect by all for all". It has a somewhat bad rep due to the few getting headlines with their bad choices, but all schools have issues. I hope the rep changes as the semi-new admin continues to make positive changes. My daughter enjoys school and has had very few issues. Our biggest problem is a couple of teachers who tend to misplace work (so many students they say)! Otherwise, teachers are fair, encourage learning, and have been there for her when she's needed extra help. The Homeland Security Program is awesome!! Cannot say enough good things about the 2 teachers and the program itself: opportunities in class, field trips, guest speakers, etc.... It is as real and in touch with the world's social climate as can be. 4 stars mainly because it is sooo large. Here's to hoping that one day the good will steal as many headlines as the bad.

First let me say Meade HS consists of two different schools. The "regular" school which is average to below average and the school that contains the IB program which is very strong. I would only let my child matriculate at Meade if they were definitely participating in the IB program in the 11th-12th grade. The caliber of teacher is higher for the IB program and they're more involved and dedicated. Also they're less taxed with behavioral problems so they can effectively teach. This year one of the IB students graduated and is going to HARVARD UNIVERSITY!! So this tells you the quality of instruction at Meade (on the IB level). So the moral of this post is...if your child wants a quality education it can be found at Meade...but mostly in the IB program. Also the principal John Yore is top notch...he cares and is working tirelessly to improve the climate at Meade HS for ALL students. Im only rating this school above average due to the IB program.

My son has been in this school for his junior year after a job transfer from CA. As others have said you make it to the most of your ability (as with anything else). His AP and honor teachers have all been great and caring. They respond very quickly if you email or call them.The teachers are very involved if the parents are. The teachers and coaches are very caring. So far my son experience has been great!

I am a military child, and I moved to Ft. Meade from Europe. As a result of living on post, my brother and I were made to go to Meade Senior High (or a private school if we wanted to attend elsewhere but still live on base). We spent only the first semester of freshman year at Meade High. After having attended only DODDS schools our whole lives, coming to Meade was a shock. Not only were the standards incredibly lower than that of what we were used to, but the overall atmosphere of the school held a different, less challenging tone. I myself was enrolled in all honors classes, and while I did like many of my teachers, it was obvious that unless you outwardly showed that you were invested in your education, personal standards of mediocrity and even failure where acceptable. I will give the school the credit to the fact that they are, indeed, diverse, but one begins to wonder after attending Meade High whether or not the social standards of particular races are beginning to be adapted in to the classroom environment. That, I believe, is the source of all the allegations of 'racism' within the school. My brother and I are still freshman and will be attending Severna Park High School.

This is a terrible high school. I went here freshman year. I am now a senior at Broadneck High School in Annapolis. It is okay for the students who are in advanced classes but if you are in standard/IEP classes, the education stinks The teachers have to spend a lot of the class time for the students to calm down, and they can barely teach cause the students disturb class The environment is not a happy setting and not a healthy setting for students who want to work hard. The students were not bad, no people are bad, I loved the students but they made bad decisions. It's just that some of the students disturbed class, harassed students, and got in the way of the education. This high school is far from "normal." The staff were nice for the most part but failed to see the students were disturbed and harassed the students who weren't. When I moved to Broadneck my sophomore year, everything went smoothly and I felt like I was a student at a normal high school If you're looking for a high school with a friendly environment for your child to feel safe and happy in, Meade isn't the one.

I am sorry to say that i did NOT enjoy my time at Mead HS. The staff has a hard time fixing problems and the state of Meade's facility is very old and needs to be updated. It seems like no one is willing to find a solution to these issues.

Both my kids graduated from Meade HS. This is a very diverse school, and students need to learn to make important choices. There are plenty of examples of students who have made the wrong ones. Daughter graduated college with honors, her last two years on full scholarship. Son, who has learning disabilities, graduated UMBC and makes six figures. Meade HS gave them good academic preparation, and realistic social preparation for REAL LIFE.
