It's a great school with BAR-T before and after-school care. The teachers and students are wonderful, and many after-school activities, such as soccer, basketball, math team, chess club, and more. I highly recommend this elementary school

The new principal drove out 30% of the teachers that made this school excellent in less than 2 years, is widely known by the remaining staff as last one to work, first to leave, and is oppositional to the pta and community. In a short time we’ve seen group punishment tactics, massive spikes in disciplinary issues, and civil right suits.

a completely 180 from the prior administration which was data driven, student focused, engaged with the parent community and overall, excellent.

Administration matters .

We have 2 children at Lakewood ES and love it there. The principal, Dr Kelly, really sets the tone that it is a children-first approach. The teachers and staff not only provide high academic guidance for our children, they are truly apart of the community and invested in their full wellbeing. My husband and I feel blessed, comfortable, and safe when we drop them off each school day. They are excelling academically, socially, and mentally. We wish they could stay at Lakewood forever!

This is an exceptionally good school. We have been here for several years and the teachers are great, the PTA is active, the principal and vice principal are engaged and really care for the students. I feel so lucky that my daughter gets to go here.

Prior to the false accusation of bullying the experience was great, many of the teachers were excellent and both of our children excelled. After the incident the experience quickly changed, senior leadership seemed to weigh heavily on the staff. Our daughter and her little brother were both treated very poorly, our only option as parents was to remove them from the school.

The situation of falsely accusing a perfect student proved little respect for the children, senior staff where severely lacking and uncaring for students at a pivotal age.

Our 5th grade daughter was part of a bullying incident where a a threat of violence was made between two girls on a chat session (our daughter was not on the messaging at the time of the threat and was not one of the girls that either made or received the threat). The principle and vice principal refused to release the charges, demanded punishment, and commenced a punishment immediately prior to receiving completing a full investigation. This left our daughter scarred and ruined her otherwise wonderful time at Lakewood. As a result of the poor treatment to our daughter and her little brother, both our son and daughter was transferred to another school after much work with the MC school board. The principal and vice principal (who was the primary driver of the punishments) have since left Lakewood.

Punishment without investigation is the schools way of dealing with bullying. Anyone accused in a bullying incident is considered guilty and are treated poorly even if they were falsely accused.

Lakewood is an amazing school with amazing staff. The kids are challenged academically but they gear teaching towards each kiddo's need/strengths. We have been there for K through 5 and all teachers have been incredibly sensitive and willing to work with the parents to help their child reach their true potential. Great staff and administration...and the administrative assistant keeps the whole office running efficiently :)

"Poor academic program", this is the phrase that best defines this school. Kids do not learn, teachers do not care. There is not enough communication between teachers and parents. Useless weekly newsletters and once-a-year parent teacher meeting are the only communication activities.

10 out of 10. Our son has Down syndrome in the LFI program there. It was quite a fight with MCPS to allow him to attend there, because the other option in Upper Montgomery County was BAD. So blessed to be at Lakewood. Principal Malcotti is amazing, and the special needs students really have her heart. Teaching staff is excellent, communication is excellent. The Lakewood Links program is a group of general ed 4th and 5th graders who have actively taken on a role of true inclusion, academically and most importantly, socially. Reece is truly loved and appreciated at this school, and it's going to be really tough going to MS next year.
