Me and my daughter moved from PG county and so far, my experience has been great. They have a good curriculum especially when she was in 3rd grade her teacher was very proactive to keep these kids on their toes. She is in fourth grade now and doing well let's see how the year will end.

This school is great my only real gripe is the fact that the 4-5 grade counselor is part time so when I needed help she usually wasn’t there and when she was there the advice see gave me wasn’t very good but the principal is pretty good the food is good most of the time the building is gorgeous the and teachers are great.

Looking to enroll my children elsewhere. They are overwhelmed and stressed by the environment and have not even made it to first grade yet.

So far, our experience has been good. The school has been in a "holding school" while Luxmanor is being re-built to accommidate the population growth. Unfortunately, the rebuild is taking longer than expected and the number of students is now almost to the capacity of the new school - while the holding school can only really handle about 1/2 the number they actually have at the building. It is bursting at its seems and the playground is awful, there is no gym, just a blacktop and a field. The Multipurpose room is used for cafeteria, indoor gym class, and as a theater space - it doesn't work.

I don't think Kindergarteners need homework, and 2nd graders should not be doing HOURS of homework. Our 2nd grader comes home with an hour + of math, plus reading 20 + min/night, plus spelling/writing which usually takes about 30 min. It's too much for a 7 year old.

There are good and bad everywhere. We had a very new teacher last year who was not well supported and ended the year not being asked back. It was the kids who suffered and fell behind.

Ms. Silverberg does an excellent job working with the kids on empathy and friendship skills.

Posted: January 11, 2020

The principal is fantastic. He had a assistant principal-in-training last year who was fantastic as well. I have not had much interaction with the new assistant principal.

1 counselor with 700 + students, I think a lot of kids get left behind.

Homework assignments are thoughtful and relevant. Not just "busy work." Projects are interesting, and educational.

I have had four kids at his school, and we have loved every single teacher we've had. They are truly professionals, who take teaching very seriously. They treat kids with respect and are great motivators.

Luxmanor is really interested in developing the whole student and does a great job teaching them how to be a caring, effective member of a community.

Posted: February 27, 2019

I love Principal Forkart. He really goes above and beyond, and he has done so much to help the kids at the school feel secure and know that they have adults they can go to if they need help.

I have a child with an IEP, and they are AMAZING. I cannot say enough good things about the staff and process. It begins with caring and respect, you can really tell they have the best interests of the child in mind and will work with you to come up with creative (if needed) or personalized accommodations so your child can meet their goals. My child with an IEP has grown so much in confidence and abilities since transferring to Luxmanor. He has learned so much, and he knows that his teachers and admin. care about him and want to help him. The improvement was better than I could have ever imagined.

We have had very few issues, but teasing and inappropriate behavior has been dealt with right away in a manner that was respectful and helpful to both parties.

100% I cannot imagine a better school for my children than this one. Teachers and staff are cream of the crop. We moved here thinking that private school might be an option we would want to look into, but I can't imagine doing that now- I think private school would be a huge step down from Luxmanor. They really are that good!

I have watched my grandkids grow in a positive way, they have emotional support provided by the school... it's like they are going to a private school. They have a lot of activities that make it possible for everyone to get to know each other, the Principal is visible and the teachers are all approachable. I am very proud of the accomplishments my grandkids have made as a result of their support and encouragement.

Obviously, this school has good leadership because you can see it in most every aspect of the school.

Posted: December 8, 2017

I don't have any experience in this area though I have seen the one on one attention given to a couple of the kids in my grandsons' classes.

Posted: December 8, 2017

I don't have any experience in this area for which I am thankful.

Posted: December 8, 2017

I would give this school five stars in every area I have experienced for our kids.

Posted: December 8, 2017

They recently changed it so that the kids do not have a lot of homework for the weekend, and the kids seem to be managing to complete their homework on time.

Posted: December 8, 2017

My grandkids are thriving at this school despite having gone through a terrible divorce and broken family home. The teachers and all school was very supportive throughout this adjustment and the kids are excelling academically and personally.

The education is stellar in my opinion but other areas were poor. My little girl was bullied and hit by boys and when she reported to a recess attendant, the boy was not reprimanded. My child was sent to the nurse’s office and I was never called. I didn’t even know until she was crying in fear not wanting to go to school.
Then my child had a bloody nose and the teacher’s assistant gave her a tissue and did not send her to the nurse’s office. I was honestly blown away with the disregard for her safety on both occasions.
Not to mention a car was stolen from the school parking lot at the last school event. But like I said, the education is stellar!!

My two kids are going to this school and it has been just well cared and close to each other. It's a small school so almost everyone seems to know each other later if parents are joining PTA or school events. I really appreciate principals, teachers, and staffs' endless unconditional help.

I have 2 children currently at Luxmanor. The teachers strike a great balance between academic and personal developments. We also highly appreciate the diversity of the school population.

They organize many events for school and staff and teachers are so supportive. Principals are open minded and listening to parents.

My Kindergartener and I are new to the Luxmanor community.
I am so grateful for the incredible teachers and support staff who recognize " learning differences."
I am so grateful for the teaching quality, communication with teacher, and an environment that is supportive of every child's potential.

My daughter has started school at Luxmanor (we are recent transplants) and she absolutely loves it. From the bus ride to school (a very caring bus driver is on our route and made sure she sat in the front of the bus until she got her bearings about her), the very active PTA, after-school activities, to the in-class experience, she comes home with big smiles and great stories. What a wonderful school and neighborhood (Luxmanor) to call home. After a lifetime in the military, I finally have a HOME! If I could give the school six stars I would...
