Lone Jack High School

We have had several children in the High/middle school facility and still have some there. There has been shuffling of the administration in recent years and several firings. They had went to web based grading system which only shows how disorganized they are, two weeks after end of the quarter still waiting for the final grade. It has become more city/modern , more of a drama center where teaching takes a back seat. Sports is a priority to them though they are good at them. The school is not suppose to allow students with a failing grades participate but they always do. At least they send ours and they are not good, they just want bodies on the team.

Teacher/parent communications is amazing compared to previous school. Average amount of homework. Students seem to Respect one another and coming in as a new student seem to be an easy transition

I came to this town the last couple years of my high school years and by the time I had kids a lot had changed. A lot of the staff were here when I started my kids out in the district. But when my oldest went into the first grade it all start changing. I had to make the change for my kids sake and they did not like it at first because the work was harder they said but, when they started the following year they could not believe the difference and love the new district and especially all the opportunities! My son was excited about the different electives in the high school that they do not have in Lone Jack. In Lone Jack they make you take yearbook as an elective course!

They have a policy that is basically nonexistent. Some teachers do but it is usually stuff that was not finished during class time. The problems we had was that the students are not held accountable for deadlines. They can choose to redo the assignment and tests to get a better grade. Tests even! I do recall that my son maybe received a few points off but how does that teach him? The real world does not allow us to turn in our projects anytime we feel like it just to get a few points off or allow us to take a test over if we did not like the grade we got. He had A's here but when we left he had the hardest time because the instructors in the other district held him responsible and did not allow him to turn anything in when he felt like it! It took him a lot of hard work to change his habits. He ended up being held back because he was behind! The district will not change this policy even though many parents did not like it. I expressed to my children's teachers I did not want this for my kids and to never allow it. Especially retaking his tests. I wanted him to earn the 0 for not turning it in on time and wanted him to earn the grade he received on the test based on how much he studied and put his effort in it. It was not until after we left my children told me they were doing it all the time. These teachers will not HONOR your wishes! So I don't necessarily trust the scores reported to the state. Of course after enough tries the test score will be high enough to report.

They do not communicate with the parents. I walked my child in daily while in the elementary just so I can keep informed and still there was so much they did that I was not happy about. Whenever I tried to communicate with principal and counselor and at times with teacher included it always got turned around into something the student was doing wrong.

If your in the right social group and you do not go against the towns norms then things we will be fine. But if you rock the boat then your life will be miserable. A lot of social and financial discrimination. But hey! They have the leader in me program so maybe the kids that are left out will pick up something. Parents just need to keep telling your kids it is not their fault, because really it isn't. It's the parents who will be judged based on their socioeconomic status.

The turn around is high! My child has had 4 principals in the elementary years. There were 3 superintendents in the same time period and when we were leaving there was another change to take place for the next year and 3 high school principals.

This is an area that I saw was done with much integrity. They protect those kids and since there is very few students in need of this resources are not overwhelmed. For the classroom their seems to be a pace that the teachers will keep to help the slower kids. But, if your on the other end of the spectrum then this is where this district fails you. Get your kids some coloring books to pull out so they can keep busy while the others get done with work.

So much underhandedness is done my the staff themselves. Especially if their child is being the bully. It gets turned around onto the other person or swept under the rug.

Lone Jack has a great small town feel, and cultures their students abilities down to a science. They are fabulous.

If you're looking for a school district with very little diversity, this is it! Community involvement does not exist here - it's more of a dictatorship! They're losing that "small town" feel. Teachers are inept and students pay the price! Can't wait for the day that we can move away from here! I feel bad that we decided to move here - my kids are seriously lacking!
