Mcdonald County High School focuses more on athletics more than academics. ROTC, SkillsUSA, FFA, FCCLA, and other organizations aren't recognized in the newspapers, social media, or school announcements as much as the athletes. Plus the principal needs to set aside his parent role and remind his kids that they're just like any other student and they need to follow the rules just like everyone else. His son can literally walk out of the classroom (like he's been doing) and not get in trouble because the principal takes advantage of his authority and will fire or argue with any teacher who does get his son in trouble. The whole system is mediocre. We should have a principal who actually interacts with students, not sit in his office eating pizza all day. The assistant principal on the other hand, is very social and very easy to get along with. When I go up to him and ask him to sign some permission forms he doesn't hesitate to put everything aside and tell me how my day's been. One of my friends went up to the actual principal to get her slip signed and he rolled his eyes at her and exhaled exaggerated. I get that he's "busy" but he just lost a couple of student's respect. I'm currently a senior and the principal went inside one of my classes for the first time...with his son! Doesn't his son have a class to go to? Wait! I forgot that he's the principal's son and no one can do anything about it! I conclude that we should have a principal that doesn't take advantage of his authority. Instead, we need somebody that goes up to kids and ask them how their day's been and communicate with them. Graduation seems to be sooooo far away!

I am a student currently attending MCHS and I would like to say that McDonald County has done an amazing job improving test score and now out ranks all the schools in south west Missouri. They are constantly adding new AP classes and developing new ways to make students more college ready. Not to mention the school spirit, everyone in the county supports us and it makes it a great place to grow up!! I love my school with a passion beyond words!

Staff is REALLY lazy! The drama teacher spends her time texting her aide. There's chew all over the ag building, auto cad etc. the teacher's see their own students doing it and don't mind. Every time I walk in the counselor's office they act like if I'm not there while they talk about the game last night. WORST SCHOOL TO ATTEND.

Mr. Harrell has done a fantastic job of rebuilding morale and student buy-in at MCHS. "The COUNTY" may never be an academic powerhouse, but kids there get plenty of support and opportunities, should they choose to excel. Great job Mustangs!

Though I graduated Mac High 20+ yrs. ago, I will tell you that I wouldn't of changed a thing. School is on the student to learn. Sure, some teachers are better than others. But at a small school, you can get the attention needed if the student asks for it. My son is finishing a jr. high school larger than Mac High and will be going to a high school in one of largest school districts in the state of Texas. Enjoy that family atmosphere that Mac High delivers! The student/parents are just as responsible as the teachers! -----J.Townsend
