My grandson had a wonderful experience in the Robotics Program / Robotics Club. GSA excels in this are primarily due to the teachers / coaches that teach the students. Royal Gasimov was especially helpful and always went the extra mile to support the students. The overall facilities and property is in mediocre condition and there are no fields, tracks, etc. for extracurricular activities. In my opinion...it seemed that especially after the covid era...there was little to no homework. and the workload was lightened to possibly help the overall student grade point average appear higher. Teachers seemed to be very caring and helpful in getting students caught up when they fall behind. I was also disappointed to learn that one semester, my grandson didn't get to go outside for any kind of lunch break, PE, or otherwise. Apparently, the following semester he would, when his schedule changed. However, every student needs to take breaks, and if the weather is decent, why not let them take a break and get some fresh air, and then the students would be more alert for their next class. There is a diverse music program and my grandson always enjoyed learning different instruments. The concerts were impressive and the teacher very supportive to their students.

Wonderful school! My daughter is learning so much, and enjoys going to school each day. Any problems that have arisen are immediately addressed and communicated by the school. She has received a very well rounded education so far. We are very happy with our selection of GSA Smiley.

Great school for kids. I highly recommended this school. My 2 girls went this school. the teachers and the envoirment are great. Very safe and they do all thing for children.

I found the teachers and administration to be on top of the discipline and addressing bullying even before it started. They often brought in speakers and had positive campaigns against bullying.

They have wonderful learning consultants at both the elementary and middle school. Both of these teachers are very committed to the success of their students.

I found the principal at the elementary school to treat the families like family. Even after my daughter had left and gone to another school, when he'd see her at her bus stop, he would honk and wave. Always building on friendship first. He has a great working relationship with the parents that are involved in the school.

They do a lot of character education. They present the students with a lot of meaningful rewards and allow the students ideas to be heard and implemented.

I had two children attend GSA. One left after 8th grade to attend a different high school. She was so advanced in Math, Science and Language Arts, she tested into the AP Sophomore classes. I don't think she would be able to do that if the school had been teaching only to test scores. Our second child attended until Second Grade, when we moved from the area. He left reading at a fifth grade level and was equally as advanced at Math. He was allowed and encouraged at GSA to grow and work at his level of ability. I found all the teachers my children had to be of the highest quality. At the elementary school the administration is kind and very loving. A wonderful and warm environment for a child to learn and grow! The middle school was just getting off the ground when we left, it was going through a lot of growing pains. The teachers were stellar, and laid a sound foundation for high school. I could not have asked for more. They did a great job with the middle school drama.

Please parents do not send your children here! You will regret it! They lie about grades. They will do anything to make themselves look good. They will not allow children to get a bad grade, even if it means cheating to get a better grade. This school is so below the level of other schools. Terrible!!!

We have both of children enrolled here, our eldest starting in the school's 2nd year, having attended now from K-4. She never attended preschool or daycare, but flourished with her first school experience in kindergarten, excelling and exceeding expectations. She is encouraged and given work that meets her learning speed and abilities. She has consistently scored above average on MAP and NWEA testing, and maintains a steady place on the honor roll. Our son is now is 1st grade, having been at GSA since kindergarten, and his experience is above par as well. He has struggled with vision problems and reading has been a challenge, but with the guidance of this school and it's above average teaching model, he is now scoring above average in all areas of his NWEA testing, and loves to read. I could not be happier with GSA as a whole. The curriculum is on point, the teachers and staff are committed and involved, and the community involvement is a great plus. We have a 3rd child on the way, and unless something drastically changes, she will, of course, be a GSA attendee.

It's a relatively small school that parents and students have the ability to shape. The
academics are well well above the standard city wide.

My son received homework during the week (M-F) but not much on the weekends. I feel this is appropriate for elementary school.

This school is wonderful!!! My grandson loves it and is never bored. I am very happy that the 2 teachers he has had (K and 1st) understand his thought process and figured him out so he cannot manipulate them as he is capable of doing in a sweet way. The curriculum is keeps him interested and curious. Great, Great school!!!!!!! .

Terrible school! Cannot wait to move and get my child out of this school and into the Lindbergh school district. Terrible communication from the school and teachers. Teachers are unable to determine when a child needs extra help. Too much play time and not enough learning time. No discipline or communication regarding discipline. Parents, do not send your children here, you will be sorry.

We pulled our child from this school after 2 years of horrible communication, high staff turn-over and several instances of dishonesty from the principal. The school only focuses on test scores and does not care about students at all. There is also a lot of bullying that goes on that is not addressed. Concept Schools runs this Charter and they are currently under investigation by the FBI. Look elsewhere for your child! Would not recommend this school to anyone.

Been trying to access their website for two days and I can't. They have big banner outside the school with the website address but the website in inaccessible. For many people, research begins with a visit to a website, it does for me anyway. It really says a lot when I can't access the site when the site is being advertised by the school. I called the school office and the woman told me the site was probably down because it was being worked on. Then she said the technical person in charge was out of the office for the day. So what is it? The site is being worked on or the technical person is not in the office?! Then she said the site is down sometimes. So is the site down because it's being worked on or because it is just down sometimes. Very frustrating experience.

We pulled our children out if a great Catholic school, like many other friends we know. The school promised so many things in early town hall meetings. The first year was not too bad, but the next two years were horrible. The constant switching of principals, high turn over rate of teachers and a Dean of Students who is a bully. There were also teachers leaving who made some serious claims, of some highly illegal activity going on in the school. The focus is more about test scores and funding than anything else. We took our children out of the school after the third year. We have since tried to place them back in a Catholic school and were not successful. Our children had extensive entry tests at the Catholic school and we were told they are about two years behind. The principal at the Catholic school explained to me, that this is common in Charter schools. They focus on tests scores, but they don't teach the children how to get there. We were forced to homeschool and pay for private tutors to get our kids caught up. If you are considering this school or are there now, think about this if you were dealing with this before college!

My Daughter has been at GSA for 3years now and we love it . . The teachers are amazing and work with parents to help the children succeed. They offer tutoring after school for free and it is facilitated by the classroom teacher. There are several activities and opportunities for parents to get involved. The curriculum is challenging and instills a strong work ethic in their students. So far we couldnt be happier. We have loved all 3 teachers we have had and my child has learned so much . We did have a new Principal this year and he is ok. He changed a few things that i dont beilive needed to be changed. They do need to quit worrying so much about the kids wearing belts and having there shirts tucked in . But other then that a great school... We are here for the long haul and I plan on sending my youngest when she starts school .

The K-5 on Smiley is a very decent school. More communication would be helpful. That being said the Middle/High school building is horrific! The environment is not what I would consider a safe place for my child. She will not be returning next year. The administration (principal, dean of students) is a joke! They do absolutely nothing to garner the respect of the students or parents. They said a few years ago that there was a zero tolerance on bullying. Don't know where that went to. The kids know that the rules are joke and are rarely enforced so they act accordingly. I would NEVER recommend this school to anyone.

"Wow". I really have never seen this type of school in my life. This school does an unsatisfactory job of teaching students what they need to know. There is no teacher talking to a single student they will always be talking to a class. By that I mean there are too many students, and in classes there is no time for one student to ask questions or get involved. I am also very surprised that there is a character education class; teach you about how to be empathetic and act around others. They are almost trying to assume that all of the students will be rude and disrespectful to others. There is also no trust between students and some teachers this is one of the biggest things I feel; without trust how a nice environment could be formed. This school is not horrific there are some good people who do well, and have an understanding of sympathy.

Gateway Science Academy is a great school. Everyone is active and participates in the school projects and activities. Constant field trips, constant testing of the kids, and teacher involvement. All the 5th grade teachers visited our home to check in. They do this with all the kids. They want to know the child's environment, where they live, etc. My kids actually enjoy heading to school each day. I live in the city and I didn't want to move when they started school. This school is, hands down, the best in the city.

GSAS is the best! My son loves his teachers and I could not be happier with his grades. The staff is supportive and nice. I think it makes a huge difference when the parents play a role in the success of their children and the school.

We love Gateway Science Academy! My kids came from a Christian school a year and a half ago where we had bullying problems in Kindergarten and my kids were struggling to read. Since my kids have been at GSA their reading level which was below their grade levels has soared above and beyond where they need to be. They have made many new friends, we love the teachers, who respond to quickly to letters emails and phone calls if we need anything and the gsa community of parents are wonderful! We love the athletic program and after school activities. There have been a few things the school can do better but they are a new school and will continue to get better as the school grows. I also enrolled my teenager at the high school this year. He struggles with certain issues and the teachers and staff were very quick to support him and myself.

I have two kids attending this school. They love going to school everyday and I know that they are getting a decent education. The test scores also prove it. I always get great response and help from the administration and teachers. It is a big relief for me to know that they care about my children and provide a safe learning environment for them. I highly recommend this school to all parents.

This school started out with high hopes. Since its inception we have seen a huge turnover of teachers, principals etc. Bullying,drug issues etc. Parents are the last to know about most things unless they want to collect money for something. I would not recommend this school to anyone. Many issues ongoing at Middle and High School also.

I have two children attending GSA and they both love it. As a parent, this school goes above and beyond my expectations. The city left us no choice with their current academic situation. We attended St.James for two years and very unhappy with the administrative staff and the teaching staff, especially in kindergarten. The community GSA promotes is second to none. My children are excelling at an enormous pace. All the teachers know my children's names. They encourage sports with their athletic department and have free clubs for after school that are free. The staff is unbelievable and utilize excellent strategies for teaching. These teachers truly care for their students. My kids visit their old teachers and give hugs to them after school. I have not one complaint....thank you GSA for providing to my children what every child deserves and that the City of St. Louis cannot seem to provide.

We joined this school in its first year my child was a student at this school when it was Epiphany and we were going to transfer to St Raphial . After attending a meeting that they had before the school opened we saw what there mission and the curriculum was my child's grades have dramatically improved test scores have come up . I am very impressed with the amount of money that is spent to see that the students have top quality on every thing they need are use if i had any more kids in school this is were they would be I had ask a teacher that I know who was a principle at another school and she said the only thing bad that she had to say is they would not hire her because her education was not up to there standards . they are sponsored by Linden Wood University and they have professors on sight on a regular basis to make sure they are teaching up to the standards that are set

We LOVE GSA! This is our second year there and we could not be happier with the school and all the quality of the teachers. We love that the school has a full science, PE, computer, music and art program. Our first and second grade teachers have been outstanding. The school community was very welcoming to our family.

This is a great school i recently moved to the city and STLP schools just would not do. I found this school on the web and my first grader loves it. They have a lot of extra activities. Oh and the After School Care is wonderful! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this school

I am a parent of 3 older students at GSA and they absolutely love going to school now. When they have breaks they can't wait to go back. The teachers are excellent and the curriculum is chanllenging. They like learning more now than ever. The school also has a good discipline program and does not allow students to attend that are a problem. They work to fix the problem and if the parents and student do not cooperate, then the student is dismissed. Another great thing about the school is that it is a neighborhood school so the parents are involved. When the parents are involved it sure makes a difference. I can't say enough great things about this school. We are truely lucky to have it.

very impressed! this was our first year NOT homeschooling and the kids LOVE it! They can't wait to go to school each morning. Teachers are awesome!
