Horn Lake Middle School

I am a current student at this school, this is my last year as I'll be at the high school this year. Horn lake middle school does provide long lasting memories that are fun, joyful and wholesome. With that said as a student who doesn't fit in due to religious beliefs, sexuality, being mixed and gender issues I've noticed through out the years that the teachers fail to take action when us kids report this stuff, some even join in the bullying. While I do have so many good experiences in this school that I'll never forget I do believe that sending your child here isn't the best choice until the teachers take the bullying more seriously.

Do not make your kids go to this school this school is terrible they have terrible kids there I been there b4 to many fight messy kids the whole school is just messy and don't let me forget they need to take them phone cuz wen I was smaller I was a nice innocent kid yk I really didn't care if ppl had beef with me but it was 4 girls they was dis girl friend n she was gone they told me to come over there n I came I found out they was recording me talking abt the girl it wasn't nun bad it was good I was just telling them why me n the girl was not cool n stuff like that them kids will record u bully u talk abt u record without ur permission talk abt u be fake I hateeeeeeeeee tat school so much I would never go to a horn lake school again and the teachers bad to they cuss at kids they don't take they phone all they do is yell n cuss they make fun of kids they school is so bad just terrible again don't bring ur kids there and I'm going bck to the good school clarkdale bye and thank you for listening.

We moved here from North Carolina and it is a totally different experience. We have been here a little over a month and I have had two run ins with the school staff. It seems as if the Principle and one of the assistant principle are on a power trip.

Teachers sends the kids home with homework with topics that have not been covered in class yet. It is very hard to have to come home from work and spend hours trying to find examples online to help my child understand his homework.

I've only meet one teacher and she seemed to be ok. She spoke highly of my child. I've spoken to another one who complained that he was too quiet.

From my experience how can a school help instill respect and integerity in a child when the staff members don't have any. When as assistant principle treat and talk to a parent as a child or as he or she is one of the students, I can only imagine how the kids are being treated.

There is poor leadership at this school. I've only heard good things about one of the assistant principals. When "leadership" punishes a child for a parent's action and thinks it is justified tells me they are not there for the children. Why punish a child just to get a point across? I will be filing a complaint as soon as I fiqure out the proper steps. Asked the principle and he didnt seem to know just suggested I go speak with the main office in Hernando.

My child is very quiet and shy. He is there to learn not socialize. I had one teacher text me saying my child would not talk to her. If he is doing his work and not causing any problems what is there to complain about? Would you rather him be a problem child? Then what would you have to complain about?

Very ineffective. Grades are entered incorrectly. Once questioned it takes forever to change or you have to challenge the teacher because they believe they are always right. Horrible

They don't give out homework. My kids NEVER have homework. Never ever!!! makes no sense to me.

The staff is full of bigots. They are not fair and do not show respect to the children or the parents. Education is not going on in the school.

Nothing has changed at this school since the last post in 2013. It is 2016 and the schools focus is still the same. The administration is horrible to this day. They are disrespectful to the students and the parents. Education? What is education? I am not sure anymore. However, discipline and minor behavioral issues they seem to know exactly what to do w/ that. Homework? I have had two students who have unfortunately gone through HLMS and they NEVER have homework. NEVER!!! The staff is still partial to the children. this school is horrible. And the High School is not any better. Ignorance to the fullest level. HORRIBLE!!!

I moved here from San Diego, CA with my children. I will have to agree with the previous posts about this school! It does appear that this school is most concerned with minor behavioral issues rather than the education of the children! I have called and emailed the Assistant Principal 3 times requesting a conference to discuss some issues that I feel are not addressed correctly! We are still fairly new here so I am trying to give them the benefit of the doubt! I will be sure to post more at the end of the school year!

I would not advise any parent to choose this school as one that would educate their child(ren). It is unfortunate, but it is true. Unless you have additional outside support, your child will leave that school knowing less than he or she did when they started. There is no order whatsoever. There is no real desire for parental support unless cookies, candy or magazines are being sold. The STAFF shows partiality to the children, and the children themselves will tell you that they are not learning or practicing anything that inspires learning.

Horn Lake Middle School does NOT care about educating children at the level they should be at. They do NOT work with parents that care about their children's education at all. I think they are more worried about a child stepping out of line while walking to the lunch room. We moved here from out of state and no one at that school requested my child's quim report to place her in the appropriate classes and they will just stick your child in the lowest classes. None of the staff will call you back when you leave a message and when you do get a hold of anybody they just tell you to bad because they are to lazy to care. DO NOT ENROLL YOU CHILD IN THIS SCHOOL if you want them to succeed.
