Issues I have had with this school:
* 30 minutes of homework nightly, in first grade (not developmentaly appropriate).
*if you choose not to do the homework, your child doesn't earn class points (exclusion).
*teacher lying about district policy about homework when questioned (said it's required)
*taking recess as punishment and assigning laps if your child goes "on red" (violation of state board policy)
*questioning teacher about issues, being redirected to admin.
*meeting with admin, where they agree with all the issues I raised (because they were basic requests based in current edu practice)
*being ignored (over a week!) when attempting to contact again about policy change being implemented a month later
*escalating the situation, just to find out they changed the policy a month ago, did not inform you directly regardless of your concerns and ignored you because the PRINCIPAL told them to.
*contacting the superintendent to only speak with the secretary and being informed they spoke with the principal and the issue is resolved with no input from you.
I'm a teacher - I have a deep understanding of best practices in the school setting and have advocated since the beginning of the year about the lack of those being implemented. Ya'll they changed every single policy because I WAS RIGHT. The additional results have been blantent disrespect from the school, ignorning and lying to placate me. I guess being wrong leaves a bitter taste in your mouth.
If your kids are at Silverdale Elementary - beware. They're slimy and they only serve their own best interests.
Additionally, it pays to know they aren't using the science of reading to teach reading. They're also using clip charts (promote bullying and shame to control students) for classroom management strategy.
If you can avoid this school - run the other way.

My kids have attended Maysville Elementary for the past 4 years and I cannot imagine them going to another school. The staff are wonderful and very dedicated. Not only do they work very hard in the classroom, they also do extra things after school to provide fun activities for students to share with their parents. Truly a great choice for your child's education.

All three of my children attended Maysville Elementary. Loved that it was smaller than some, great teachers, my kids had a fantastic bus driver (minus a few experiences, which I'll mention in a moment). They keep parents very involved, sending home folders every day for you to see. Parent/Teacher communication was great. My son, on his very first day of third grade, got punched in the face on the bus. I know during that year they were trying harder to lock down the bullying but, when the parents don't care what their children are doing, even though action was taken at school, it's really sad you have to choose to drive your kids to school. Other than that, we loved the Christmas parties, and classroom get togethers, and the Kindergarten graduation. Would definitely recommend this school to anyone who asked.

As the principal of Maysville Elementary and also a parent, I make it my goal to see that every child receives custom instruction. It is the goal of Maysville Elementary for our children to experience success and growth each day.
