My Daughter coming from a public school to this school I've seen a Dramatic Positive change in her learning! They do not play. Im satisfied with what she's learning and the respect the teacher's give. They let you know the same day about any incidents that happen and are open when I give my responses. Some of the other children needs to learn more respect but thats on the parents part to enforce it. But overall im happy my child comes here and I will continue to support them.

Absolutely not. One of the teachers asked my child to grab something for them, then another teacher yelled at my child for doing so. That teacher made my kid and their friends stare at a wall and spat gum right across their faces. They eventually reported this event to one of the administrators, but the administrator ignored the event and scolded them for being out of order.

In my current experience with the school, the teachers are horrible. The administrators are horrible. The teachers talk to kids any way they want. And when kids respond, it's the kids' fault. I'm dealing with the issues now. Will be removing my kids soon as this school year ends. This is the worst school that I have ever seen

This school is absolutely out of wack and god awful. The teachers are ineffective and incompetent to teach young minds. Most dont even have liscenses. My son was sexually assaulted at this school, multiple times, but they just played off as him lying. Do not send your child to this school unless you want to set them up for failure.

This school should be shut down or wiped clean and have new teachers and administration. They dont inform parents about assignments that are missing or incomplete until its too late and grades are posted. They dont send graded work home because haha, we dont have to do that if we dont want to. When asked if they will share what areas in each class your child may need to improve on, they refuse to answer that question and say they will handle that during intervention. During intervention they wont tell parents whats being gone over. Those in administration are not qualified and quite frankly dont like kids. The teachers retaliate and only implement rules on center students. They dont pay attention to the kids while at recess resulting in them getting injured by other students (who arent reprimanded for their actions) but instead the injured child is. Its clear that some of the teachers/admin have preconceived opinions regarding certain children. They assign too much work. They assign work thats 2/3 grades above the grade the child is in. They expect small children to behave as adults when the adults in question arent even capable. The school is ran like jail and inmates have more freedom.

I disagree with the bad reviews of this school, most of which were written 3+ years ago. Contrary to what you read or hear, the teachers, admin and staff DO care about your child. They take situations seriously case by case. Please realize that the word "bully" is usually used incorrectly and in some situations, the child who claims they are being picked on are not 100% innocent either. Bullying is described as an ongoing and deliberate misuse of power in relationships through repeated verbal, physical and/or social behavior that intends to cause physical, social and/or psychological harm. Most likely it's parents who are using the word "bully". Parents aren't holding their child accountable and want to blame someone else-the teacher, school, "the system".

My child's grades and social emotional health have improved since enrolling in this school. Everyone's child is different and every experience is different. One person's opinion should not stray you from making your own decision about this school. I challenge parents to give to this school a chance to impress you. Make your choice based on your own opinion and experience, NOT someone else's. This school ranks higher than many Pitt County Schools. You can even schedule a tour in the school's website to see it for yourself.

I was excited about this school, I wanted my child to go the distance, K-8 but when the administration AND national heritage academies completely ignore bullying, protect the staff while punishing the children for speaking up and disregard the concerns of the parent. It's time to go. My child's physical, emotional and mental well being is more important than a test score, tutoring can fix a grade but emotional scars take years to heal. Racial bias is blatant (see 2021 headline about racist teacher) and leaders are very disrespectful to the parents they want to "partner" with. Narcissistic, environment with many of the leadership being the bullies of students and parents.. proceed with caution and communicate daily with your child to know what's happening in school because often if they (or you) go to leadership with an issue it will be ignored

I send both my children to this school. We decided on Winterville Charter mostly because academics are very important to us. We cannot say enough great things about the past two years. Our children are doing better than we expected. The teachers in K-2 have been amazing. They do get weekly homework packets that we work on nightly, I believe this is great in helping not only the children learn but for us as parents to review with them the work they are doing in class. The teachers K-2, along with the Dean have been available when needed. Our children also say they enjoy going to school and have enjoyed their teachers as well.

This school is absolutely awful. The teachers and deans laugh at concerns and I've even heard a teacher use a slur. In the past, I've gone to multiple teachers about bullying and they do not take it seriously or believe you. They sum up everything to "drama." I've also gone to them because I suspected one of my friends was being hurt at home. The deans just laughed at me and didn't take anything seriously. I've been sexually harrassed multiple times by other students, and nobody seems to care. The only good thing about this school is SOME of the teachers. Other teachers called out my twin sister in front of the whole class for showing signs of ADD. I've also had breakdowns in class due to anxiety, and some of the teachers don't care. I've had a breakdown in the middle of class multiple times due to one teacher, and she still hasn't been fired. This same teacher also criticized me for not turning homework, even after I informed her I was at a funeral. She didn't care I was grieving and gave me a 0 for not turning it in on time. My guardian emailed her about this incident, and she never acknowledged it. Overall, this school is awful. Only send your kids if you want them to have the worst school experience.

This is one of the most chaotic school administrations I've ever seen. Very stuck up and unproductive. They treat their staff terribly. The new principal is very rude and unproductive. The new principal is very rude to students. They put on a nice smile for parents but will scream at the children behind closed doors.

I have not seen them accommodate anyone with learning differences properly. They assume yelling at students with things like ADHD will just magically make them focus.

I have never seen this school properly handle bullying. If you choose to come to the staff with an issue about bullying, odds are that you will be punished for being bullied as well. This school is so focused on their image that they don't really care about the student body. Its all about what makes them look good.

I wouldn't say that this school is terrible to attend every single day. However, there are systemic issues that the school continues to ignore. All of these issues culminate in a toxic environment for both students and teachers while the administration does nothing. The way that students are disciplined depends on general opinion that any given administrator has towards them. If you choose to send you children to this school, you should know that you will be appalled by their oversights, incompetence, and lack of compassion. There are some great teachers here, but they do not make the experience worth it. The academics here are also terrible. The way they teach is very to the test. All they care about is the EOGs. Your child will learn next to nothing here.

Most of the teachers are ineffective and focused only on test scores. There are some really great teachers in this school. They only care about test scores. I have never seen more boring lessons and projects. However, they are the minority.

Our experience at this school has been awful. If I could give WCA 0 stars, I would. And for this reason as well as many more, we will not be returning to WCA next year. Be not deceived by the moral focus stance and be aware of the overall productivity of this school. There is high turnover for teachers. Ive never seen so many teachers leave a school during the year. Also, please be aware of the teachers. The teachers at this school have no compassion. My child has one teacher that displays compassion and care but the other teachers do not do this. The science teacher yells all the time and is quick to clip students down for outrageous reasons. The ELA teacher does not care and has no personality whatsoever. This teacher goes great lengths to discuss a clip down but will never go to great lengths to discuss academics even though this has been communicated multiple times. You would think academic performance would be a focal point but obviously it is not. I would not send an ant to this school. Please stay far away from this school. Send them to PCS so that they will really be prepared for the EOG instead of this failing school. Theyve been advertising a lot and its only because enrollment numbers are low! Please save yourself from frustration, poor teachers, and poor academic focus and send your children elsewhere. I wish I never would have sent my child to WCA!!!!

I feel awful for having put my kuds there. It breaks my heart to watch them eat lunch in the gym WHILE gym class is going on. They don't tell you that in the PowerPoint presentation. The rooms are tiny and crowded and it is the most joyless place I have seen my kids attend. We will be leaving.

The lower Dean does not have a handle on what is happening in those rooms. She tap dances around questions and while perky and nice offers no substantive solutions. The middle Dean should not be in an administrative role. She has an art degree and it not a licensed administrator. She is placating but does not really care about what you are saying. Between them and the principal I really feel they are harsher on POC than on the white children.

Very poor work environment. The classrooms are crowded and there is very little for students to look forward. In middle school there is no foreign language, no challenging clubs or activities. They don't even get to dress out for PE. One of our rooms never even got proper desks. They were working on folding tables. This is a very stressful school to be in for the teachers and the students. I love my coworkers, but I will not be back.

The school has a nice facility but offers much less to the children in comparison to traditional public school. There are certain teachers that have bully type attitude. The administration has changed, and there has been a huge amount of turn over for the size of the school. Teachers talk openly about their dissatisfaction of the school. When talking with parents and teachers the opinion is one of which the school is mass chaos.

We have had no issues at WCA & have been there since day one. Our child excels academically, he is challenged which is the reason we moved him from PCS. He participates in extraculliar activities and sports offered by WCA. Deans & teachers respond in a timely manner to emails. On a weekly basis we receive emails from his teachers & office staff outlining the weekly agenda. Also, Sunday evening principal calls with weekly call. We love WCA!!

My brother goes to this school and was taken out because of a bullying problem there. Its sad that he cant see his friends anymore because the dean didn't do what she was supposed to. I hope no one else ever has that happen to their family

I love this school. My son is in kindergarten and we have had a great year. There is constant communication before the parents staff and administration team. I can walk in the school and volunteer in my son's class or anywhere im needed in the school at any given time.

My daughter has been a student of the school for 2 years. We have enjoyed our experiences there. The faculty and staff not only take the time and appropriate action to help her be successful, they also believes that she can be successful. This is something we never experienced while attending Pitt County Public.

My son has been at WCA since it opened and he does very well, always gets a's and b's. His teacher uses class dojo and updates everything he does from helping othersomeone to taking extra bathroom breaks. There is alot of work and I sometimes have to Google how to help him. It's not for everyone but it works for us. Great school teachers and deans.

We have 2 children at this school. The first year was fairly good. This year, however, is a completely different story. One teacher doesn't reply to emails; and this is for our child we need to monitor a bit extra. The other doesn't send the class newsletter out in a very timely fashion. Just recently, we received the newsletter early Monday morning with information that students would be tested Monday and Tuesday and "to make sure they get enough rest and a good breakfast". Too late to take extra pains for an early bedtime. We noticed a drop in communication and in teaching commitment after school was closed for 5-6 days following the hurricane in October 2016. The school never announced any makeup days for those. What happened with the state-mandated school days that schools should have on their calendars? Grading is questionable at this school. Grades are very misleading. Participation and homework scores carry the same weight as exams/tests/quizzes. As such, the inflated overall grade is NOT representative of what the student has learned/not learned in the different subjects. A child can average low C's on exams, but due to the participation and homework scores at 100%, that same child will come out with a B+ or A-. We don't need our children's education sugarcoated. We NEED them seeing that they are not doing well and to work harder. We are supportive and encouraging to our children in regard to academics and make them do extra practice to master concepts...they think we're mean. But in all reality, we want to ensure they know the material since that does not seem paramount to the educators at this school. Seeing their quarter grade as inflated A's and B's instead of the TRUE (test) letter grade according to what they actually learned doesn't help our cause to get them to understand that they need to work harder/try harder when they say 'well, I got an A in that'. Life is hard. Not everyone is going to get A's and we understand and accept that. Help our children to be able to deal with REAL LIFE.

Student misbehavior does not seem to be addressed and this extends to bullying behavoir. One teacher spoke to the entire class, which is fine, but a phone conference to the bullying student's parent(s) is in order when specific children are bullying others and it has been witnessed by others.

Yes, there is a moral focus on these character traits, however, when behavior that goes against these moral focus characteristics goes unpunished, what's the point? A good moral character is not going to be instilled from exposure to such at school. This has got to start at home.

Regarding teaching: I have found myself having to re-teach my children on almost every subject, but especially math and language arts/reading. Once I have re-taught material, they have a much clearer understanding of the concepts attempted to be taught in the classroom. Everyone has different learning styles, but it doesn't appear that teachers are considering that when they teach the material..

Regarding classroom management: We have found classroom management to be seriously lacking at this school. Despite the expectations of student behavior that are listed in the school handbook, students are constantly (as in EVERY day) disrespectful to teachers our children have. There seems to be no repercussion for misbehavior/rudeness/meanness as the behaviors are the same as at the beginning of the school year. What's the point of behavior expectations if the students are not held accountable for them? One of our children has come home regularly in tears and upset because students in the class are so disrespectful to the teachers and to fellow students. We've even been told by our child that students can't learn because of certain students' poor behavior as the teachers have to constantly deal with interruptions.

Homework has not always correlated to what is currently being taught. One teacher went to virtual homework on the computer. We were unhappy because it didn't allow us to see how our child was really doing and whether or not the material was being learned since we had no paper homework to look over. There have been times when our children have not had homework before holiday breaks. Give them something, at least for reinforcement, during the days leading up to the break!

We don't seem to see this in every day learning. Yes, there is tutoring that has been going on, but it seems to be geared only for EOGs. Why does one of our children who has an A in math needing math tutoring?? It just doesn't make sense.
