Most teachers gatekeep the educational development of students. Most teachers do not offer homework, reading materials/recommendations, supplement activities, class agenda and/or curriculum for families to view/access. How do you get students ready for the next level of their learning & development which includes developing good study habits? These critical habits are necessary for success in college, trade school and workforce.

Trask has been a wonderful experience for both of our children. The staff truly cares about their students and the athletic department has also played a huge role in our children’s middle school success. No matter what school your children attend, parent participation and involvement can make any school a positive experience. Be involved, stay in communication with the staff, and talk to your children. It is our responsibility as parents to be involved.

All the students pick on each other in very rude and mean ways.

They try putting children with disabilities in a normal classroom, but all they do is disrupt the classroom.

The administration seems to care very little about the students, and the office workers are almost constantly busy, but never seem to get anything beneficial done, at least from what I can see as a student. The teachers don't seem to communicate among themselves very well, and different teachers will give you different answers on things that should be clear.

As a student, currently in 8th grade, I can say that the school is... average. While I've never been to another middle school, from what I've heard from other students, Trask isn't that much different from other middle schools in the area. I think the school could be improved with more communication between the staff, parents, and the students. As a student, I feel more emphasis should be put on making the school a more enjoyable place to work, in the form of more interactive lessons, more interaction between grades, and more power given to the students in school wide decisions. I don't hate the school, it certainly wasn't an all negative experience, but it simply didn't inspire me to love learning, or make me feel like I was part of a community.

On the whole, most teachers have a good homework policy, though I feel as a student some assignments don't help you practice, and are useless.

Many teachers are passionate about their subject, but certain teachers are awful, and not only do they make the kids dislike the school, but they also don't cover much in a way that is memorable, or useful, or else pile on work so much that it's becomes overkill.

While the school tries to promote these virtues, nearly all of the students ignore them, whether this is a problem with the school or the students, though, is debatable

We were assigned to Trask even though Noble is 1 mile from our home and on my way to and from work. My request for a transfer was denied. We figured we would give it a shot.

The first impression of this school is the office and its staff which was absolutely depressing and concerning. They do not greet you when you come in, they talk amongst themselves while to stand awkwardly wondering if you are in the twilight zone. My child was not acknowledged nor made to feel welcome or given any direction whatsoever. I felt horribly for him, even though he tried to be brave and not complain. You literally get a warmer welcome at Chik-fil-a or Denny's. These women should not be in education!!

When my child had an issue with anxiety I reached out to the principal (because the counselor was absent 3 days in a row). She (the principal) was short and rude and had a bad customer service "I'm sorry you feel that way" response to my sincere concern. Again, why are you in education? I'm beginning to think half of all school staff are there for the free health care and summer vacations. Does anybody have a calling to teach anymore?

I ended up having to take my child out of Trask and apologize again and again for having put my child through this bottom shelf "education" experience.

Wilmington is in desperate need of better schools. There should be a new charter school opening every year to help remedy this insult to kids. We chose virtual school to finish out the school year then my child is going to either charter or private. Seeing what I've seen I could not in good conscience send my kid to Trask.

This has been a wonderful school for our daughter who is now in 8th grade. I cannot say enough good things about the AIG program. She has had some wonderful teachers!

It has not been a great experience at all. My child has always been in AIG and very athletic and socially popular. Every time I check him in or out of school the front secretary and staff seem to be more engaged in personal conversation then business. Every time. I stand there and wait patiently hoping for a better experience, but alas I must have forgotten I have an invisible cloak on. His homeroom teacher has been very on it with communication, but last year his teacher requested a conference on his report card and did not reply to one email or phone call to schedule same. Communication and administratively this school is lacking. My son received his first C's ever, and now I have been attending open houses for other schools. As a parent you only get one chance to give them a good education, and I am afraid this is not it.

Trask Middle School is OK..... There is a couple UP's and DOWN's: UP'S: -Great Clubs (FBLA, 4H, Art, Garden, Etc.) -Really Nice & Fun Teachers (Kuk, Lancaster, Bass, Brock, etc.) DOWN's: -Worst School LUNCHES EVER! (It tastes like processed food, which it is) -RUDE, RUDE, RUDE OFFICE STAFF! Their Office Staff is very rude to parents and even STUDENTS! That is not cool :( -School needs renovations & more clubs (The school was built in the 70's & It needs ALOT of work!) -Buses Can be late to bus stops, OCCASIONALLY! (My daughter doesn't care, but she would like to be at SCHOOL on time!) I GIVE THIS SCHOOL A 3! Bullling is also a BIG Issue at Trask...

The office staff & principals are extremely rude as others have previously mentioned. The principal always acts like she's too busy to take care of your needs, or issues for your children, as do the rest of the staff. Ms. Mills, one of the counselors, practices blatant reverse discrimination. I was shocked by how she handled a meeting with my husband & I when my boys transferred to Trask, & I wanted to make her aware of my older son's bullying issues at the other school. My younger son gets bullied perpetually, & while Mr. Bacon was nice when I spoke with him about it, he's done nothing to follow up with me or my son, like he said he would. Some of the teachers are nice, but others don't seem to care. PTA is AWFUL! The president is rude, which turns other parents off, & leads to detatchment. The school is not inviting to students or parents AT ALL! My older son is at Laney now, & it's a world different. My younger son finishes up at Trask this year, & I can't wait for him to get out of there. He went from making straight A's all through school to C's & D's last year at Trask. The teachers did not even contact me when he began suffering academically!
