In my experience at the middle school it was a very difficult time in my life because the teachers where very mean and disrespectful. Including the fact that one of the teachers ripped out a patch of hair out of one of my friends for being disrespectful. Also the teachers do not act like real life adults and take actions as a child. The conditions of the middle school are also very poor. 100% do not enroll your kid to this school absolutely terrible!!!!

Absolutely by far one of the worst schools Ive had to deal with as a parent. They fail to teach kids I feel like I explain more to my kid about her lessons than the ones that get paid and chose this career. They absolutely do nothing about bullying except punish the kid that retaliates cause they get fed up with the nonsense of kids not getting help when asked its so bad my Daughter wants to go to a different school district.

Learning: Learning at this school has been more than a nightmare I make little progress and get scolded for not catching on.
\SpEd classes: From an inside source and watching how they act; they are treated like babies and when they don't get their way, they make a big fuss about it because of the fact they do what they want. Also! they don't learn at all they simply play Minecraft, and do the equivalent of below 5th grade math or whatever subject they are in at the time most the time (coming from an 8th grade SpEd student
Teachers/Teaching: The teachers are ok some are very bad, others are good. the bad teachers are very Strick and usually don't let the students do anything or they were to be called out because of it, teaching is ok, but as I said there is little progress in students.
Safety: the safety isn't the biggest problem as when stuff like someone says they are going to shoot up the school happens lots of police officers are told to go on the near campuses, though the biggest problem is the fact that the school is REALLY dirty, and you can easily find at least one cockroach somewhere in the school main building. also bullying is a very bad problem, if you're not the bully's friend your someone to harass and be mean to.
social-emotional/family engagement: depression is a big factor and emotion in teenagers which isn't solved, they simply give the students a program to report people saying I'm going to kill myself and do basically nothing about it they console them and pay a little more attention to them but that's it. for the family engagement it's not that bad though it could be a tad better especially with 504/IEP related topics (note: teachers don't follow 504 only IEP as IEP is a legal doc and 504 is a suggestion that is told to be follow (it's not)

This is a great school it could be a bit better, but dome of the teacher can be pretty strict but most of the strict teachers are super funny and only strict when someone is being disrespectful. The school is pretty messy, and the students are really bad there needs to be more strict punishments. The good thing about the school is that the gym (or PE) is super fun and can help students get fit, like me I am pretty skinny, and this might help.

School is bad as an overall im a student here and i know that somethings here are not fair i do like how the teachers are for the most part but they dont always pay attention to the students. i have learned a lot but the curriculum is just not good. also i-ready get rit of it this curriculum is most of math and reading though science is ok and SS the way the curriculum is done/made is just very bad. i hope schools dont replicate this curriculum in furure schools. band is ok. special kids get too much care they learning nothing and act like babys most the time, they most the time get thier way.

The teachers and staff have been very intelligent, and really do strive to have the best rapport with parents. My children have good relationships with their teachers and enjoy their classes. The band is excellent.

My child stays up all night doing homework and is discouraged when she gets to school and the teacher does not take it up (MATH ESPECIALLY)
Posted: June 12, 2019
I assume that they are vey knowledgeable ... my child knows more about her teachers personal life than I would like
Posted: June 12, 2019
Horrible. If EOG's weren't so close, I would have moved (just so we be done with Swansboro middle)

My daughter learns differently - she is very much a hands on visual learner. Because of this, she NEEDS to write things down and needs to have notes in front of her. When she has struggled this year she has been blown off by teachers and defined as distracted and not paying attention. Shes distracted bc shes not being helped when she needs it so her brain goes elsewhere.
Posted: May 7, 2019
The names my daughter has been called this year - I didnt even know kids knew this stuff. Shes been threatened, had kids put their hands in her personal space, etc. When faculty has been alerted there is nothing done besides moving the kids seats.
Posted: May 7, 2019
The majority of work is done online. No books. Math we were told my daughter could not take notes on paper bc they would get lost so she had to take notes on her laptop which makes them illegible and useless. Homework ranges from none one week to piles of it the next week - theres no consistency.
Posted: May 7, 2019
There ARE a few good teachers my daughter had this year but unfortunately they were trumped by the awful experiences with others. The bad ones are degrading, yell, tell kids to shut up, dont listen to what kids have say, refuse to offer extra help when needed.
Posted: May 7, 2019
The amount of kids talking about being depressed and unhappy here is appalling. The bullying has no end even when faculty is alerted to it.
Posted: May 7, 2019
I have seen zero sense of leadership from anyone in this school. Teachers just tell kids what to do and dont give them examples to live by but instead punish them when they dont do as theyre told.
Posted: May 7, 2019
Awful. We are pulling my daughter next year and home schooling her.
Posted: April 27, 2017
My son has been on the short end of the stick from time to time and the school tries. Furthermore my son, unfortunately has been on the other end as well and has been punished accordingly as well.

Basically all the teachers stay on top of my student child but his math teacher is just all over the place and not very effective.
Posted: April 27, 2017
Only math is discombobulated. All the other subjects are very efficient.
Posted: April 27, 2017
Absolutely absurd the way some of these teachers talk to our kids. Rude and sometimes abusive almost. My child has gone as far as recording teachers belittling him because we didn't believe him at first. I'm sorry but I have nothing good to say to friends weighing the option of moving in the area and putting their own children in this school. Don't get me wrong, there are some good teachers, but even one bad math teacher can ruin your child's experience. Trust me.

They need to be more efficient when it inconveniences many students causing them to fall behind, making them have a sadder perspective on things related to school. Overall would never attend again, or any Swansboro schools.

Swansboro Middle is horrible at recognizing a child in need of an IEP due to several diagnoses including RAD, Aspergers, Social & Intellectual delays, Cerebral Palsey, Learning delays NOS and and IQ of 74! I have battled with them since October and they insist that he is just as ordinary as every other child in his classses! Oh and this is even after multiple psychological tests, iq tests, reccomendations from 3 different outside resources.

This school is horrible. Whenever something is done to my son nothing is done, but whenever my son does anything he is severely punished. This school could improve on it's self by punishing everyone that does something wrong, not just certain people. On the other hand some of the teachers are very caring, and actually care about the students. Also the teachers teach very well and know what they are doing but as I've said before the disciplinary actions need a lot of help.
