JCMS offers structured academic programs and AVID support, but academic proficiency rates are below state averages and parent feedback is split. It’s a large, diverse middle school in a modest-income community, with opportunities for college readiness programs but challenges in consistent teacher engagement and student safety. Families considering it should weigh the school’s programs and support systems against the mixed review experiences.

But overall, the school is okay.

My child has been to 5 different districts in 3 different states and this school has been the worst one attended, BY FAR. -- 1. The majority of the teachers do not teach or engage; they expect the children to use the online programs to teach themselves while the teachers text on their phones. The ones that do try and teach are so caught up trying to counter students' awful behavior, the students that are there to learn get forgotten about. 2. Administration addresses NOTHING of actual concern. After countless contact with administration about a teacher harassing my child, I was finally able to get the situation dealt with after threatening to press criminal charges and drag every administrator down into it with the teacher. 3. Administration punishes students for advocating for themselves when situations are ignored over and over. If the teacher doesn't handle a situation, then an administrator doesn't handle a situation, what are students supposed to do? -- Obviously all children are not interested or excited about school, but there are children that are. School should be a safe place to go, an escape, somewhere inviting, what ever a child needs it to be. This school falls short in every way possible. How a school becomes filled with adults in charge who don't care about bettering a child, who don't care about even moving in a better direction, is mind blowing.

My Daughter attended this school 6th-8th grade. She was sexually harassed on and off for 2 years, the administration acted like it was no big deal. The principal only cares about how she looks and what the female students are wearing. Not about the bulling, fighting, harassment and other things that are going on in this school. Thankfully she is now in High School which is much better than this sad excuse for a school. Unfortunately our son will be going there in a couple of years. Hopefully they have a new principal by then. I personally think she is the biggest issue!!!

I send My 7th grader here for the 2023/2024 school year. Parent teacher communication is not great. During her 504 meeting one teacher bothered to show up. She was given an in school suspension once and the school never even bothered to call and tell me. Her English teacher was very liberal and loved to use the classroom to promote her political agenda by passing out Palestine banners and bracelets. There is so much downtime and so very little education happening in this school. It’s a lot of “the assignment is on the board” or “the assignment is in your Google classroom” while the teacher sits on their phone. Teachers encourage students to rush through things so that can have cellphone time until class ends.

Not the kind of place you would ever want to send your pre-teen or teenager. They will be bored, they will fill that time with scrolling and shenanigans that get them in trouble.

This school isn’t so bad as my daughter was here for 6th grade year 23-24 some teachers were nice some were mean as expected of course. Her first day was great but the thing is a bunch of drama and fights over dramatic things you don’t get notified as a parent unless your child has started something. When mydautgehr got into a fight no one was notified until a suspension came days later. This school is half and half 2.5 stars for me.

This school, I would definitely not recommend. It has a number of threats, teachers don't respond to council referrals, bullying issues go on, i am on my last year here, and I'm transferring soon, don't go to this school! There are numbers and numerous threats and issues!

I am a student at this school., and i do not recommend going to this school at all. the reason following this claim is that the kids at this school are very toxic. such as making pages on social media to bring down other students, talking about their appearances. and i would know how this feels because I have been put on these types of pages. as a result, a do self-harm because everywhere I go in this school, I do not feel safe whatsoever. When students would go to admin to inform them about situations like this, they claim that they will do something about it but nothing effective ever happens. And instead of going to admin, some kids go to their teachers to inform them of this situation. As a result, they don't do anything about the situation either. consider this a warning...

i used to go to this school and during my 8th grade year there was so much fights one time we had 2 or 3 fights in 1 day and we have more in the bathrooms and if you don't want your kid to beef with someone don't go here but it's a cool place tho

I'm a former of jcms, i went here 6-8 grade. I would totally recommend this school because that teachers are always there for the students. But there was 1 thing i didn't like was the amount of homework the teacher were giving us. But overall its a great school

I love this school. Despite the size and number of students attending, there are few issues at this school.

Posted: June 17, 2020

Homework is clearly written on classroom boards and is able to be seen on the school website for each teacher.

Posted: June 17, 2020

Teachers are genuinely concerned about my children. They respond to emails quickly.

Posted: June 17, 2020

I put neutral here because I do not see all of the students. The ones that hang out with my children have strong character.

Posted: June 17, 2020

The administration seems to know what is happening in every classroom, all of the time.

Posted: June 17, 2020

I don't see where students with AIG status are being served. EC classrooms do appear to support students, and regular teachers follow IEPs.

Posted: June 17, 2020

Adults on campus take this very seriously, investigating right away.

Posted: April 9, 2019

umm well i mean i am a student right now and it is so much better then the parents on here make it sound, they just salty because they didn't have a middle school that actually taught them skills of dealing with people that you need in real life.

We are now over half way through our second year at this school. This year is worse than last year. The only thing positive I have to say is that the teachers do a pretty good job replying to emails. Other than that the school is still a mess. I have a child in elementary school. When a 4th graders and 7th grader are doing the exact same assignments that is a major problem. The only goal this school seems to have is making sure the kids pass their class and become someone else'so problem. I have yet to come across a teacher who has done anymore than just that. Even the guidance counselor's aren't willing to spend time speaking with parents and teachers to make sure the kids are getting the help they need. Knowing that these kids won't be prepared for high school is a scary thought. The county should be ashamed of themselves for allowing a school to bring down our kids like this.

this school is horrible. i have been here scene 6th grade and ever sense i came here i have seen that the teachers pick who they want to get on about everything and get them in trouble at the beginning of the year. this school need to update EVERYTHING these computers are older than me by like 10 years and also get ride of these teachers that cant teach and all they care about if getting students in trouble. to all the people looking at this right now don't go to this school it literally stresses you out

I would like to say that my son had a so so start at first but that could have been normal middle school transition. He is in seventh grade this year and truely loves his classes. The school offeres many rigors classes that other schools do no offer. He has a great relationship with his teachers and feels safe and supported at school.

The school board or state needs to do a complete review of the procedures in this school. I have never seen anything like it. Most schools love when parents are involved in their child's education this school not only doesn't give out information but they ignore you as well. Teachers do not respond to emails or take weeks to respond when you inquire about challenges your child is having. Not just one teacher...many teachers. This is highly unacceptable especially when a child is having trouble in class.

Thank the lord for my child getting into New Bridge Magnet school! I wish I would have known about magnet schools before I moved here because I would have tried to get them into Clyde Erwin.

Posted: May 18, 2013

This school is terrible. I would imagine this is what prison would be like. Also I'm fairly sure most computers are older than me.I made this review since there are no recent ones. Update: Nothing has changed.

Just moved here from out of state and my kid received a wonderful welcome from the teachers and staff. I haven't had any issues with staff .

If you can avoid sending your child here, plese do. There are some good teachers, but they will not stay long. they cannot be good teachers in thsis environement. The administration will say whatever they think you want to hear, and do nothing. If your child is a strogn student they will be bullied and no one will care or they will say your child participated. If you child struggles academically, they blame it on behavior. Children are treated like little criminals with more rules than I could remember. There is no positive reinforcement for good choices and the kids feed off the negative energy. My son had no Science or History homework because they were not allowed to bring books home and the teachers are not allowed to make copies or print wokr sheets due to the cost of ink and paper. You cannot make this stuff up.
