As a parent of a student with disabilities, I expected J W Coon to provide basic accommodations and support. Instead, we experienced:

MEDICATION REFUSAL: Despite providing documentation, staff wouldn't administer prescribed medication while constantly complaining about "missing paperwork" and even after they had the updated instructions, they did not give him his medication.

NO ACADEMIC SUPPORT: Teachers compared my child to neurotypical students and demanded equal performance without providing required accommodations

504 PLAN VIOLATIONS: Ignored legally-binding accommodations and actively blocked IEP evaluation despite clear need

ZERO COMMUNICATION: Never informed me about problems until they became crises

HOSTILE TO DISABILITY NEEDS: Staff seemed annoyed by requests for basic supports

This school creates impossible barriers for students who learn differently. If your child has an IEP/504, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere - JW Coon will fight against providing services rather than help your child succeed.

I was highly disappointed in the lack of support for a student who needed special education services. Parents were highly involved and advocating for their student. The school administrators didn't respond to emails that the parents sent or emails from the child's medical team. They didn't administer medication or accommodations correctly. The student was removed from a classroom and they still allowed that teacher to be in charge of the student which further escalated behaviors and took no responsibility for their part. This child has been falling through the cracks and it is the school that has failed them. Lack of communication, professionalism, medical care, equity, and compassion.

my son attended kindergarten at JW Coons and I can say the school is awesome! Each member of the staff is attentive to the childrens needs and his teacher Ms. Ashley Voter and Ms. Tillman are examples of what teachers should be about. Excellent principal and will only stay in this district while he is in k-5.
