Neuse has a very selective and inconsistent discipline procedures. Boys are especially scrutinized and the administrator even said in a recent event that she sets the bar low for boys. It is also very noticeable that treatment is different for families that can donate ! The facilities are run down with the score board not working a many sporting games. Some of the teachers are really nice while others seem to just be set on automatic mode. The school board makes most major decisions even without talking with the parent or child about issues. Other families opinions steer decisions ! Nothing is kept confidential! No signs of Christian attitudes for the most part .

Teachers prioritize encouragement in academic guidance, consistently instilling positive energy in students to help them quickly integrate into school life and foster harmonious peer relationships. My child entered ninth grade with a mix of A, B, and C grades, and has now achieved straight A's and been awarded the Principal's Award, demonstrating remarkable academic progress. The principal personally knows every student in the school, understands each individual's unique strengths and personality traits, and treats all students equally. This school firmly rejects all forms of racial discrimination and upholds equality among students of all ethnic backgrounds. I wholeheartedly recommend this school.

My child attended Neuse Christian Academy throughout high school and I must say that our experiences with this school were very negative. Throughout my child's years at this school, the teacher turnover rate was extremely high, resulting in a poor quality education. Throughout her years she had five math teachers, this set her back significantly to her peers at other schools who were at the same level. The foreign language curriculum is a joke. While my child was there all they did was sit on a laptop and "learn" Spanish, while not being taught the actually mechanics of the language, instead just being talked at in Spanish. There are very few AP classes offered and not much time given to the teachers (who are trying their best) to adequately prepare their students for the exam. Teachers mainly teach through a conservative Christian worldview, and are harsh towards other denominations/perspectives.

Some teachers were phenomenal in supporting my child, however some teachers outright bullied my child and other children in front of their peers. These teachers also saw bullying occur repeatedly and failed to do anything about it. My child came home crying every day of their junior year because they were being ostracized by their classmates and teachers failed to address such behavior. Teachers were directly involved in hurting my daughter emotionally. There are major cliques at this school and they are only fueled by teachers, and their own personal favoritism. My child was not the only one who had this happen to them, I have heard this story from many parents across all grades, not just in high school.

While at Neuse myself and my child heard other students threatening gun violence and harm/damage to the school and its property (students included). My child tried to tell teachers and they took this as a joke instead of a serious matter. These students also had a disciplinary record in the past.

This school mainly caters towards the nuclear American family. If you come from a split home or have familial issues the school does not display the "Christian love" that they claim to have. One of my child's friends had a private family matter happen, that issue was then spread to the whole high school because teachers refuse to be professional. They really caters towards families that have NCA alumni or donate regularly to the school. It seems they care more about money than my child and upholding Christian Values.

I would not recommend this school to others.

I am thankful for NCA and the caring staff there! I know my kids are cared for and prayed for by their teachers, administrative staff, and school board. My kids receive a great education, and I know they will be more than prepared for college or vocational school. In high school, they offer several AP courses and several enrichment classes. There is a variety to choose from each year, and no matter your kid's interest, I'm sure they will find one they relate to. My kids have participated in several sports & have enjoyed their experiences. They offer many different sports throughout the year. Overall, we have had a great experience at NCA. We have been an NCA family for 9+ years. We plan to be here for many more years!

I do not quite understand some of these negative reviews on this site. I guess some of these parents have some very unrealistic expectations for a school (like the fact that the school is unhealthy). How ridiculous! Our children have attended NCA since kindergarten, and one is now in high school and the other in middle school. Neuse Christian Academy is a caring school with top-notch teachers. That doesn't mean everything is perfect (no school is), but overall the school is poised for success in the future. The administration cares about the faculty and the students and their spiritual and academic growth. We have had a wonderful experience at Neuse Christian Academy, and we highly recommend it to any parents!

This school has so much ambition that the administrator feels there is no need to make the school better or change what is being done. They lose more and more teachers every year, so quite a bit of the school is either parents of children here or family to some in the administration. The education has just kept going downhill, and many other parents take their children out and put them in other schools because of how poor it is. The majority of classes are just sitting with a Chromebook in front of you and typing, from what I gather. My child has had five different math teachers in the last school year and now he is struggling even more because they don't have a full time teacher for his class, they only have a real math teacher twice a week, and when my child confronted them principal she just placed the blame on them for not putting enough affot into the class. The electives here are also a joke, they get no real-life skills or anything that would be useful to have in the future. The sports at this school are also incredibly bad, they seem to have no intention of trying to improve them or get land for outdoor sports such as soccer and baseball. Almost all of the coaches are also parents, so there is an obvious bias. For example, the girls' basketball coach this year had two daughters on the team that he started every time, even though neither of them had very much skill. Some of the discipline in the younger grades is also unnecessary, they often hand out "choice slips" for reasons that don't make sense, almost like they are having a bad day and they are taking it out on my child. The cafeteria's food is also rather unhealthy, and they have take-out three days a week. There is also a large number of unhealthy people in this school; many of the teachers are not healthy at all. They have the word Christian in their name, but many of the students do not exhibit this, and neither do some of the teachers.

Upon stumbling on this school, I was thrilled to finally find a supposed christian environment where my child could thrive and do well academically and socially. Things appeared good-hearted on the surface, but after a few weeks of my son being there, I found out how wrong I was to send him here. The teachers tortured my son mentally and socially. They were very very hard on him and punished him for every little thing he did. Eventually causing him to distance himself from everyone and become a shell of his former self. I wish that I could recomend this school for HIGH SCHOOLERS but I cannot. The elementary school is satisfactory but the highschool is a depressing and disheartening place to be. Everyone seems so hopeless at the school and very disatisfied with their job. No one seems like they genuinely want to be there. Most teachers hate their jobs or are too old to actually get anything done effectively. Please If you want your son or daughter to enjoy their highschool years and be prepped for what comes after highschool DO NOT SEND your child here.

I highly recommend Neuse Christian Academy. My children have thrived at this school both academically and spiritually. There is a wonderful balance between rigorous studies and a focus on helping each child grow in wisdom and faith. We have enjoyed the opportunities provided in sports and other extracurriculars. The teachers are caring and available. The administration is committed to excellence and accessible to students and parents. For these reasons and many more, I strongly recommend Neuse Christian Academy!

I have 2 students who are above average academically, and they thrive here.
The teachers and administration really care about the students. I was surprised and impressed with how effectively they implemented virtual learning in March when the school building had to close down suddenly from the pandemic. We successfully finished the curriculum and did not fall behind, and they were so encouraging to students and parents. I could not rate the school any higher.

I have three kids attending NCA and its been a wonderful experience for them all. Their teachers are caring and loving. With the small class sizes they get the extra attention they need. My son has special needs and gets one on one supper in a kind, loving, Christ centered environment.

The school is big on Christian character. In elementary they give kindness awards for students who are seen demonstrating good behavior. This can be given by a peer or teacher.

Bullying is a hot button issue at all schools, and NCA is no exception. The school can be overly sensitive (In my opinion) in cases where it is just kids being kids where there was no ill intent. But, again, this seems to be case everywhere. My kids have been on the giving and receiving end of what the school called "bullying" and it was handled via an immediate report to us and a conduct slip for the offending kid(s).

The school has resources for children with learning issues. They have worked to accommodate my dyslexic son, going to great lengths to ensure he has support from the teacher. They have been extremely willing to work with us to determine the most effective educational approach for him.

The school is administered by a board, a school administrator and principals. The leadership has been consistent, helpful, and professional in all interactions we have had. The staff at the school are positive in their interactions with students and parents. The PTF has not been very active over the past two years.

There is a strong emphasis on Christian character development. Teachers work with kids that are struggling to help them develop these skills and demonstrate them with their classmates. This character development flows through all subjects in the classroom materials (e.g., reading assignments, vocabulary and spelling, social studies).

The teachers have been effective for my children. They score well on the standardized testing and are at or above grade level compared to their peers in public school.

Expectations for the amount of homework is discussed at the start of the school year and is fairly consistent throughout the year. This has been the case with the 7 different teachers my kids have had. It is not excessive and the complexity increases from grade to grade. Points are taken off if late. Free passes from homework can be earned for good behavior and can be used by students in a pinch.

The school has a family feel, which was apparent from my first tour, during which the elementary principle knew and talked with every student we passed, regardless of age. She was personal with each one, asking about tests, sick family members, etc. Our son has been at NCA for almost 4 years, and our overall experience is excellent.

After complaining about a student at least 6 times & nothing was done about the behavior, then my son took matters into his own hands and then got into trouble for doing that. Yet they never effectively dealt with the situation & then in the end blamed him for retaliating.

There are two extremes to homework - either over the top or non-existent. They often have several major tests on the same day along with major deadlines. Often teachers post homework assignments at the last minute - like Sunday evening!

Everyone seems to be miserable and they take it out on the students. It is supposed to be a Christian school but no one acts like it. The facilities are old & falling apart. The heating & A/C don't work properly. The population at this school are very unhealthy and probably have the highest percentage of overweight students and teachers in the country. The food served in the cafeteria is disgusting. The discipline is over the top and they seem to hate boys. Teaching is basically "take out your chrome books and take notes." Teachers have no passion for teaching and there is little student engagement. Electives are a joke. They often don't have lessons planned and when the students are bored they get into trouble because they have nothing to do. There is no green space on the property and any outside time is in the back parking lot where they have to dodge cars. There is a real negative, evil spirit over this school & it shows in the attitudes of many of the teachers. In a bullying situation, ultimately they ended up blaming the victim. There is no PTA.

One of the things I like about NCA is that it really does have a family feel. Although my child's teacher is in her second year at NCA, many of them have been here for 10-20 years. I also like that my child's teacher is a graduate of Neuse. I think it says something about a school that its graduates want to come back and teach at their alma mater. It's great to see my son excited about learning. We plan to be a part of the Neuse family for a long time!

The middle and high school academics at Neuse Christian Academy (NCA) are average to above average. My children did extremely well academically without much effort. Our family sacrificed a more challenging curriculum for the small environment.
We had issues with the administration and some teachers. Despite being fully aware of a disability with my child, the administration attributed some of my child's actions to a behavior issue which was not the case. NCA was not honest. Instead of working with us on a positive plan, they became frustrated and placed the entire blame on my child. The school's behavior was not Christian and was disappointing for a school who claims to be Christian. They failed to live up to its mission of supporting families.
In addition many who work at the school are related, or are fellow church members. There are instances of mother, son, daughter, sister-in-law, youth group pastor from another church, etc. working at the school. One has to question the hiring practices and if the best people are employed.
Also, with the quality of families and students attending NCA, there should be more students attending four year colleges after graduation. The college planning and advising need to be improved and overhauled.

Wonderful school, atmosphere is clean and professional. Teachers appear to give un-divided attention to the students. Every year the school administer meets with parents to discuss the direction, vision for the school. She also discusses new things that were implemented. As a parent I get the impression they are really putting the overall family first. Which is good. If you have an issue or concern or need to meet with teacher or administration they have been very responsive and willing to listen and work with you. They do not yell at kids and when something is wrong they nicely/professional call the child to the side and explain the correct way to handle a situation if they did something wrong. Very well mannered kids. I immediately could tell a difference with my child after a month of her attending. As long as we are able we will do our best to keep her in a christian school environment and out of public school. Love/Manners/Respect/Education/Leaders and more are very important for us. Thank you NCA and keep striving to build/grow/and improve upon to be a successful school.

At Neuse Christian Academy, we are excited how God is changing lives in the classroom, the athletic fields/court, and on campus. Our Athletic Department is producing annually 16 different Middle School, JV, and Varsity athletic teams in 6 different sports (Baseball, Boys & Girls Basketball, Cheerleading, Golf, Boys & Girls Soccer, and Volleyball). Most of our Coaches have either played and/or coached at the collegiate level and were recruited by colleges in their respective sports. This brings a standard to our athletic department which separates us from our competition. At Neuse Christian Academy in 26 years of State Athletic Competitions, we have won 1 National Championship, 7 State Championships, and been to 18 Final Fours for all of our sports combined. Neuse Christian Academy has been producing College Scholarship Student-Athletes since 1991. All of these great achievements have been accomplished through God's Blessings and the Truth in Colossians 3:17 which states, "And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him."

I have had children at NCA for 3 years. We came out of the public schools because we wanted a Christian education to help our children gain a biblical worldview as well as reduce class sizes. I have had children in all grades from K-10th. The administrators, principals and teachers are dedicated to the children. The school provides an incredible family feel. The school has become an extended family to my children. There have been students that have left NCA only to come back within weeks because they missed their "family". I have been very happy with the academic rigor. My children are very smart, so this is very important. They are in honors classes and my highschool student is on a college prep curriculum. The school has recently added a marine biology class to the highschool curriculum which includes a relationship with UNC Wilmington for up close and personal study of the ocean. There are numerous AP classes to prepare for college. In sports the children are taught God first, family second, school third and academics fourth. The school has had very successful sports. I can't recommend the school highly enough! It is a blessing to our family.

We have been going here for going on our fourth year and we love NCA! Honestly after doing a lot of searching and visiting it was just the best fit for us, and hands down, it was the best value in a private school education. The only knock we have is that the school does not have a lacrosse program right now. My son would like to play basketball there, but they have been state champions for several years and it is an extremely competitive program. He is looking forward to the new marine biology program though as they have launched the only one in the state that will also let you get SCUBA certified and he loves sharks! Ha! The school has been through a tough time though (I guess five years ago now? Something like that...) and we were almost persuaded to go somewhere else at first, but the school brought on a new administrator and the school has really turned around. Matter of fact we almost didn't get back in this year because some of the classes are wait listing now due to the growth. Thankfully we did get back in, but I will never assume that I can wait till the last minute anymore!!!

I am in the process of moving to Raleigh from another state. My children have always attended good private Christian schools and I am looking for a great Christian school to continue their spiritual growth, but I have concerns after reading the different posts. I thought this was the forum to speak about ones experiences; it could be positive or negative ones. One should speak from their own perspective ONLY. All comments should be factual and welcomed. No one can speak of others experiences; only their own. Christians should act cautiously and not label and become judgmental as in the previous post. Judgmental post such as this is a real turn off to the prospective parent. It could appear that someone have something to gain from writing the post while lashing out and being defensive. One should be extremely cautious of these type posts if they want the school to be seen in the best positive light. And I might add that these type posts do not display good Christian behavior which is a major component of the school s belief.

Please think twice regarding sending your child to this school! On the surface, it appears the administration/teachers are spiritually guided and has the best interest of the children at heart until there are issues. Most have a superiority complex where they do not care to be questioned. My family had many issues with the school policies being made up as they went and inconsistencies of policies of the teachers across the board. The school would also make decisions in a vacuum without parental involvement. When most parents found out about these new decisions, it is too late to act. There was a lack of commo between the teachers and the parents. Mtgs with administration/teachers to resolve issues also caused problems for our child in the classroom. We had to dis-enroll our child in the middle of the school year to find relief. This is mean-spirited behavior and has nothing to do with God or what they say they are about. They say that they are a nurturing faculty that is dedicated to the development of well-rounded students in a Christian environment in which their students flourish. There are a huge contradiction in who they say they are and who they actually are!

This has been a wonderful school for our family. There is a great teacher to student ratio and the staff really cares for the children. The academics are also very good for a small school. Our oldest child was well prepared for college.

This school administration had some problems 3 years ago with the pastor of the church leaving the church and school. That is old news. This school pulled itself up by the boot straps and faithfully followed God's desire for this small school of 250. This school is authentic and Christ serving. The academics are quality and the people are real. There is NO- keeping up with the Joneses- at the Neuse. The basketball program is top notch, the teams do win championships, but the team players follow all the same rules, financially and scholastically as the other students. The Coach is not the adminisrtor of the school. The coach is a leader at the school, though. Our children went to a more expensive, more elite Christian school a few miles away. We felt the values and sincerity of the Neuse was a better fit for our family. The teacher to student ratio is about 12 to 1 and the education has been excellent. The measurement of education and care of students is not in the grand facilities, but in the character and heart of the graduate.

This school is amazing. We have been there for seven years, and have appreciated each moment. The staff truly loves to teach, the curriculum is well-planned and organized, and the feeling of community is wonderful. Your child will receive personal attention from loving, caring, well-educated, talented, professional teachers and staff. We look forward to the rest of our K-12 experience being there.
