I went here in the 2019-2020 school year. I do not recommend WCA. It looks good and flashy, but the experience wasn't it. I felt like I was just there and being pushed along. I only knew about ~5 children. The teacher was rude and didn't engage. I felt like I did not belong. Multiple hours of homework every night. And they forced me to do fundraisers that I didn't agree to do. I go to a different Christian school not 10 minutes away, nowadays. Everyone I know there who went to WCA in the past says that this school is far superior. But, despite the criticism, I will admit that it strives to be a Christ centered school, and in some ares, it achieves that goal. The facilities are nice, boasting multiple buildings and fields. If you are looking for a caring, Christ centered Christian school in Wilmington, NC, then to my experience I'd pick Calvary Christian School. Much smaller facilities, not as flashy, but more caring and loving. You wouldn't regret it.

I went to WCA for two years. The education was amazing! But they were very discriminatory against anyone who was not free will baptist. They constantly brought up numerous other denominations and would always say how they were not Christians and the only Christians were free will baptist. They did not care for kids mental health, they pretend to but they most certainly do not. They allow kids to make gun jokes and violent jokes. And the amount of times they tell you and I quote "sex is a blessing" and "we need to all have many kids and get married. Those that dont are sinners and going against God" to MIDDLE SCHOOL students. I loved the education outside of their preaching of Christianity. They told my family we were welcome there even though we were Catholics but when I started there EVERY SINGLE CLASS they always preached how horrible Catholics are and how they are a cult along with many other Christian groups and they made me feel horrible. The kids would make fun of me for being Catholic right in front of staff and they wouldnt care. They would talk about Catholics in class and tell students misinformation about them like how we "pray to pictures of Jesus" and thats why we have pictures of Jesus in our churches. And how we "pray to statues" etc. They also allow kids to make jokes about telling kids to kill themselves. I tried to offer to talk to the principal about the problem but he didnt care to ever talk to me about it. This is all coming from someone who left WCA last year and devoted 2 years there. Also from what I hear HS is worse. They teach sex ed to freshmen and tell girls they need to get pregnant and how to and then teach boys about nothing. Also girls are told at 12 years old it doesnt matter if they get raped or not, if they get pregnant they must carry the child it doesnt matter if they die or not by FEMALE teachers. Some teachers were amazing and supportive but most of them were very hateful and discriminative

Our son attended from K4 all the way through 12th grade and graduated from WCA! He excelled in college (4-year NC state college) and graduated and is since "making his way" in the work world. The spiritual emphasis and the level of education that was poured into him from preschool thru high school is something that is honestly unmatched! From academics to The Gospel...and everything in between...WCA partnered with us as parents to help mold and shape him into the man that God has created him to be. My husband and I are thankful for Wilmington Christian Academy and the Godly heritage and traditions it has invested not only in our son...but into generation after generation of families in this community!

My children have made great friends at this school and WCA does great work with keeping the children safe for outside threats; however, some of the teachers bully and intimidate the children. The are supposed to teach Christian values and one would also assume they would model compassion, understanding and forgiveness; yet, they do not - not even close. In my experience this poor behavior has come from the elementary faculty. There is improvement with the middle school teachers. They seem to have more compassion.

We moved across the country to Wilmington so our 4 kids could get a great education and participate in a quality athletic program at Wilmington Christian. We have been at Wilmington Chrisrian for 7 years and we are glad we made the move. WCA is full of families like our we have connected with and they have become some of our closest friends!

We have been involved with this school for 16 years with all 3 of our children attending WCA, and my husband attended years ago. Our oldest graduated 3 years ago, and is now a college senior. He was able to have some credits transfer to college due to the classes he was able to take while in high school. He was well prepared for college. We currently have a middle school and high school student who attend. Our oldest started in K5, our middle child in K4, and our youngest in K3. We have had fabulous teachers and staff who truly care about their academic and spiritual well-being-love to see them and speak to them in the hallways/games. The faculty/staff know the children and are so glad to see them all the way through school as they prepare to graduate as a senior. It is a small school, but it is like a BIG family. The academics are rigorous, but it challenges children to do and be their best, to learn all they can (without the state's input). If there is a concern, the teachers and administration will touch base with the parents to address it. The teachers really want to see the children to succeed and to be all that God wants them to be for their life. There is a variety of sports for them to participate in as well as a great Fine Arts program. My boys are well rounded children due to the opportunities they have been given and have chosen to participate in. Parents/Grandparents are encouraged to volunteer for different events, which is also how I was able to get involved. I would highly recommend this school!!!

I've personally been involved with WCA for over 4 decades. My mom taught there for 31 years, both my wife (K-3 teacher's assistant now) and I graduated from there, & our kids currently attend. I simply can't say enough about how excellent this place truly is. Amazing leadership, extraordinary faculty, and a superb education. The principles instilled are invaluable, especially in today's world. This place will set your child up for success in this life AND the next...

I have so enjoyed being a student at this school. I am someone who grew up throughout the whole program and I was so thankful for the preparation it gave me for college. I was able to test out of multiple classes in college based on what I learned from school. WCA offers many advanced and dual credit courses for students to get started on their college or career ahead of time. I have loved the experience so much, and when I was looking for a place to teach I knew that I wanted to be a part of this school.

WCA is an incredible school. We have four children that attend in the preschool and elementary department. The academics are top notch and they encourage our children to be devoted citizens, to follow Christ, and to love others! We could not be happier with this school!

For a private Christian school...Wilmington Christian Academy checks all the boxes! Rigorous academics, stellar athletics and most importantly, sound doctrine taught based on His Word. WCA is thankfully unapologetic when it comes to "nurturing" the whole child through a Biblical perspective and has been doing so faithfully in the Wilmington community successfully for 53 years! Our son spent his entire academic life at WCA, K4-12th grade, and is currently enrolled in a large, secular state university (with over 25,000 students) and has flourished academically and socially with no issues at all coming from a "smaller Christian School". If anything, we believe he was MORE prepared and totally equipped due to the rigorous academics and Biblical/scripture head-knowledge that was lovingly taught and emphasized while growing up at WCA! No school is perfect...yet WCA comes pretty close in our family's book.

Our family has been at WCA for 3 years and the personal and academic growth we have seen in our children has been amazing. Having our children to receive a stellar education in a loving Christian environment makes staying at WCA an easy decision. I really cant say enough about this school and the wonderful teachers and staff!

Could not be more pleased with my two childrens experience at WCA.
Phenomenal academic institution which fosters a wonderful Christian culture.
Dedicated, professional, and transparent teachers and faculty. Best around.
Not to mention, my kids have not missed a day of school due to covid (knock on wood) because the school leadership rigorously planned and ensured thorough steps were taken to mitigate exposure.
We can only hope the future at WCA is as blessed as the past two years for my kids.

Our children have attended the Middle and High School for several years, coming in from a school whose academic rigor was far superior. WCA teaches traditionally (think public school, learn it for the test, memorize it, forget it), which is it's downfall. My children are now uninterested in academics when before, they thrived. Classroom time for some teachers consists of: read this, fill in the blanks on your own. That is not teaching. Kids are not learning for life. They are not challenged, unless you think memorizing a bunch of facts without application is challenging. Positive is that they hear the truth of Christ daily, but sometimes in a way that is more legalistic than personal and grace filled. Ironic since this school is a ministry of Grace Baptist. Communication is a train wreck, receiving up to 20 emails or alerts per week, most of which are NOT emergencies and could be condensed into one weekly parent communication if someone would just take the time to organize it. Daily emails are not effective ways to communicate and parents will tune them out. If an issue in the classroom, I've experienced teacher going directly to principal for minor infractions, rather than to the student or even the parent: blindsiding both child and parent for minor things. Parents are instructed to go to teachers first if issue in child's classroom, you would think teachers would have the wisdom to do the same. There is something to be said for the tenure of staff, some good, some not so good. Folks are settled into their roles, with no feedback from parents regarding how students are taught. There are teachers who have been there 30 years . . . who are not actually teaching the class but instead just having kids read and fill in blanks on their own. This is not teaching! This does not encourage kids to be involved in the class and learning experience. There are other ways to do it besides the Bob Jones way.

WCA has amazing teachers. They care about the students and the academic rigor is high. However, the schools administration is not transparent and does not take parent concerns seriously. WCA holds itself out as a conservative school, but the administration's policies do not adhere to conservative values. Furthermore, the administration attempts to hide policies they know are unpopular with parents and does not have an open forum where students or parents can discuss issues impacting the student body.

This school is a business first, a church second and a school third. It is all about your money, not about your child. My child went here for 2 years. We had a good experience with her teacher the first year, she was very well experienced and identified and encouraged her through her learning differences. She regularly communicated with us. I strongly believe this was because she actually has teaching experience. The 2nd year was awful. The teacher was completely ineffective. Sent home mounds and mounds of worksheets and homework and NEVER communicated with us until months after my child was having problems. Sever bullying and isolation in the classroom and after school. When I did schedule the parent teacher conference, she brought the PRINICIPLE! And when I asked specific questions about how my daughter was doing, she would look at the PRINCIPLE! Then the principle proceeded to tell us that we have to pay more money for any additional resources, but they only do that with a medical eval (more money). The teacher was doing no in classroom intervention and said that a "C" student is good. She is average.

It was appalling. We are now in a public school and within two weeks of school starting, they began interventions. My daughter is behind. I spent tens of thousands of dollars for a "top notch" program and my daughter is behind!

Lowsy administration, all about money and business... they would rather build brand new buildings than provide good resources and education for their young teachers. DO NOT GO THERE!

Awesome school compared to the other local private/christian schools. Definitely better than the north carolina 'government' schools!!! Got a little tired of the uniforms but I get why they have them. I really bonded to my teachers. Most of them. Some are a little hard on the students but I think they really want the best for us. Someone wrote a review about bullying. I was in public schools up through middle school. There was bullying everyday. I think all kids everywhere do that. I felt safe at WCA. I never felt safe at my public schools. I can't imagine that bullying was just let go unpunished... especially because of money??? Where did that come from? WCA is less expensive than all the other private schools in the area... I think that was a parent who was just overprotective of their kid.

I've had three children go through this school from kindergarten through graduation. I've personally known every teacher, staff, administrator and most janitors. Every one of them works at the school for significantly less money than they could get elsewhere. That fact alone completely amazes me - that they could be so dedicated, so serving, so caring, so loving. - to each other, to the parents and to the students. Not one is perfect. A few have thankfully moved on. Those that remain are doing a fantastic job shaping young lives. Yes, there are uniforms, rules, discipline, chapel, expectations, homework, etc... There is also the same problems you'll find everywhere you find children. AND the same problems you'll find everywhere you find parents. And no, the school can't solve all those problems. (Read the "helicopter-parent" reviews further down the list... the ones with 1 & 2 stars). But, if you're looking for a highly successful (been around for 47 years!?!), reasonably-priced, distinctively Christian education for your children - this is the place.

Bullying seems to be a reoccurring problem at this school. Faculty seems to turn a blind eye trumped by $$$. Make sure your kid is thick-skinned if you enroll them at this school.

Where do I begin? The momemnt we began we felt the love, acceptance, and genuine LOVE for our son who began in pre-k. With a firm belief in God, yet OPEN ACCEPTANCE to all beliefs, this was the best place we could have placed our son. Such a well rounded curriculum of music, spanish, reading, math, our son was reading on a 1st grade level at the age of 4!! Can not say enough about this school! If you can get Mrs. Attoe for PreK4, DO IT. You will never forget her..she is amazing, dedicated, and truly a gift.

WCA is a wonderful school! My niece has just blossomed since starting at the school as a four year old (she is an 8th grader now). The school has equipped her not only academically, but more importantly spiritually as she becomes a young Christian woman. Keeping her at this school has become a priority for our family and I am so thankful for the faculty and staff that work so hard to disciple the children that WCA and equip them for their future!!

I randomly came on this site and saw several negative comments and I feel like those comments give the wrong view of WCA. I went to WCA from K4 all the way through high school and loved it! The leadership is excellent. I graduated 4 years ago and have seen many changes to improve technology, program, and student body spirit. Some of the godliest people I have ever met are the teachers and staff at WCA. Many of the teachers became my mentors. I knew I could talk to them after school hours about any spiritual or personal issue I was dealing with. To give a realistic view, I did not have a positive experience with every teacher, but overall I was able to establish personal relationships with the staff, faculty, and administration. Academically I received an excellent education and I was more prepared for college then most of the freshman at my university. WCA also has an excellent fine arts, sports, and community outreach program which I had the opportunity to participate in. WCA encourages their students to become well-rounded individuals and to love the Lord. I would definitely recommend WCA!

We had two children attend WCA after moving to Wilmington. Our youngest had a good first year in the fifth grade. However, her middle school years were not as you would think they would be at a Christian school. Each day she was bullied in the locker room by girls who would ask her over and over about religious issues; like which church did she attend, and did she believe in god, etc.. In addition, she had one of her "friends" text and call her nightly trying to get drama started. I would have to tell my daughter to ignore the calls and messages each evening and pretend that she did not receive them at school the next day. In addition, every day when I would pick her up from school we would have to have a session in the car where I reminded her to forgive other students poor behavior by staying polite and avoid others who did not know how to behave as Christians. Several times things that belonged to my daughter would be taken by other students, mostly school supplies. And then there was the cheating on tests by other students that I would have to hear about as well . We chose another option for high school.
