I love this school but there's lots of bullying but it's ok to tell the teacher because it can lower the bullying rates but I love this school its really fun kinda would recommend

The conference with the teacher seemed very productive and we learned that my child had not been trying. We discussed what ways we could help at home. Those steps have been taken, and we know, from the homework grades, that vast improvements have been made in the last month. We only know what we see in the grades that are brought home. We haven't received a report card but based on the conversation with the principle in front of the class, she surely is not communicating that any improvement has been made. Positive reinforcement is the most effective way to promote a student's self worth and attitude toward learning.
I have found that any interaction with the principle has made things worse for my child because the teacher doesn't deal well with corrective criticism. It's not about the teacher. It's about my child.

Homework should be a tool to help a child improve. When it is incorrect, the
corrected answer should be given so the child can know where the mistake was made. No corrections ever seen on returned homework.

Teachers are suppose to encourage students to progress and do good not degrade them in front of the class. Then bullying occurs from the other kids. Not a way to encourage improvement but a way to keep the child from wanting to go to school. My teachers at Aurora High School did everything to make sure all students were encouraged to do their best and were never berated for doing poorly, especially in front of the class. Teachers should be calling for conferences with parents to help the student do better. Teachers should never threaten kids with failing their grade and repeating it as many times as necessary. That's what's happening at Snowden middle school in Aurora, NC. A good teacher promotes good grades and finds ways to encourage not berate students.

How can students feel good about themselves if the teacher continually degrades them? It may be true that they are lazy and not interested in making good grades but continual reinforcement of those qualities does not help. It becomes "learned behavior" and the student doesn't care and thinks that it's ok not to do better. In the situation with my child, improvement has been considerable and no recognition of that has been relayed to that student by the teacher. I can only go v
By the grades that are sent home. Positive reinforcement is the key to a child's success.

The principle should never converse on the phone with the teacher in front of the class on the status of a student. That is infringing on the confidentiality of the student and causes bullying within the class. Conferences should be set up with the parents, teachers and the principle to discuss and resolve problems. Improvement on the part of the student cannot be accomplished when being constantly degraded.

Special help is given to some and others are ignored. Discrimination is very apparent or I might say favoritism.

This school has some very passionate teachers committed to continued improvement throughout the school. This is an attractive school with grounds and beds that are beautifully maintained.

A school will only be as great or successful as the community, parents, and educators work together to make it be. There are awesome things happening for students at S.W. Snowden. It is not a perfect school, but it is a caring school. Changes are being implemented to become a better school.

I have 3 kids that go to this school and regret EVER moving to this district, all year long they all have been picked on. Both of my fourth grade girls have had other students make sexual advances to them, the teachers and staff are oblivious to the things that are going on in the school. In my opinion they are just there for a pay check. There is no structure in ANYTHING they teach. In my opinion this is just a flop school so the kids have somewhere to go during the day because there sure not teaching them anything there, in this area alone there are 50+ families that home schooling there kids.........this is why.
