I have to let everyone know that the promotion of Ms. Mendoza to vice principal is an epic move for our school. Shes the most dedicated and kind educator we have ever met. She is beyond qualified. She puts her best effort into everything that she does. The students and their families are the big winners here!

Once again, they promoted a completely incompetent person to administration. Good job Corvian. They are tone deaf, out of touch and do not want feedback from parents anymore. They used to be good at partnering with parents, but no more. They hire people into leadership that are not qualified and continue to spread incompetence.

Weve had a great experience at Corvian! Our kids have thrived and are excited to go to school to see their friends, and learn in a supportive environment. Our kids have gotten involved in activities, clubs, and athletics, and this has made their experiences even richer. There are no perfect, academic environments, so reasonable to expectations must be kept. It is what you put into the experience! We would highly recommend Corvian.

The recent positive reviews dont paint an accurate picture of the school. The new administration wants zero input from patents. They run the school like a prison and some of the teachers are bullys themselves. Administration ignores emails but they are fast to ask for money. I would not recommend this school at all. Sadly there are few good choices in Charlotte and the teachers who advocate for the kids are let go.

Corvian was the right school for us. Small, SAFE, forward thinking, approachable staff with many relationships built, and support to each child individually. Plenty of clubs and athletics to be well rounded and opportunities for parent involvement.
Started both kids in 6th grade after leaving the overcrowded, excessive disruptive behavior problems in CMS middle school. Both have thrived, were fully engaged and loved their time there. HS teachers (the good ones that stick around and are in it for the right reasons) made it fun and engaging. Both have graduated and were more than challenged and college ready. One was in the top 10% of the class and accepted to a to top schools, the other in the top 25% and accepted into top schools including Honors College.
There were some growing pains as with all schools making changes as needed. The carpool has been an ongoing pain point and unfortunately some drivers don't understand the patience needed to participate in an orderly manner.
Trust that Admin has to make unpopular decisions at times but do your best to offer solutions in a respectful way and support your teachers. There is no perfect school.

My children have been at the school for a total of 12 years. We have been there to see the multiple changes in leadership, changes in models, focus and it continues to move further and further away from the "whole child" focused school that it set out to be. The past leadership touted they would be another Community School of Davidson, but they are moving towards a more college prep Lake Norman Charter duplicate (however no where near as well run). The current leadership is weak, not transparent, and will talk the talk, but they do not walk the walk. The current leadership was there when our past executive director was charged with embezzlement and fired (they participated in the decision making and poor leadership) although our current board seems to think they are "new and improved." My children have had some amazing teachers through the years, but our current leadership has chased many of them away. They recently decided to remove some of the teacher assistants in the 2nd -4th grade classrooms and make them share them between classes (This does not go along with the "whole child" philosophy). When you bring concerns to admin, significant gaslighting occurs, or the director just sits there and says nothing. My children have been counting down the days to graduation, and have little to no respect for administration.

We have had an amazing experience at the elementary school. Our communication with teachers has been excellent. My children have developed a true sense of community in their classroom. The change in leadership this year has been a very positive change in the school with organization, inclusion, and communication. The school building is also new last year and provides a beautiful environment for learning.

We have been with Corvian for 12 years. We have had ups and downs but I feel my kids are getting everything they need. My kids do not want to attend anywhere else. There are some great teachers that have been very influential to my kids.

My children have attended Corvian for multiple years and all of their teachers have been excellent. The new campus is nice, and there have been positive changes in leadership roles over the past year. Overall it's a great school and we are happy with the academics, social aspects, and overall experience.

The elementary school is unorganized and decided they wanted to hold my child back when there was no structure in the classroom settings. The curriculum was all over the place, she was supposed to learn Spanish and they did not teach that. This school is money hungry and doesnt offer free tutoring. I wasnt told about free tutoring at the library until I broke down crying telling them I cannot afford $100 for a tutoring session. I will be pulling my child out of this school.

We have been a Corvian Family since 2013! Our oldest just graduated and we have a rising sophomore. Sure there have been some ups and downs over the years but overall I can't imagine my kids and our family at any other school. As far as charter schools go, if you are looking for an inclusive, welcoming, and diverse school this is it.

my granddaughter was diagnosed with stage four Hodgkins lymphoma at the end of her school year in 2024. Due to multiple setbacks, prolonged hospital stays and surgeries. She was unable to attend her 2425 junior year in person Corvian staff and students rallied around her and made her feel like she was still part of her junior year. I cant think of a more wonderful place for a child to be a part of.

We have been at Corvian for the last 4 years in the Elementary School and absolutely plan on staying through 12th grade. It is the most supportive and involved community of teachers, staff, and friends. The admin team is beyond exceptional and works tirelessly to do whats right for the kids and teachers. We love our CORVIAN FAMILY !!!

We have been at Corvian since Kindergarten. And I can whole heartedly say that I plan on staying until 12th grade. My son has been supported, encouraged, embraced, but he also has learned. His EOG scores reflect the academics, but he also is learning about how to be a good human, which is not something that is taught all places.
I not only recommend this school to everyone I meet, but I turned down a spot at LNC. Thats how much I believe in its future. Our new elementary principal is phenomenal, and this school is going to be amazing in its growth.

We accepted a seat for both of our children very late a couple days before the school year. Initially we were excited to attend however the day we arrived to the school to drop off important documentary the middle school assistant principle of the middle school heard us ringing the bell but did not answer. It literally took a teacher walking down the hall to open the door to assist and then the assistant admin came out and was so unwelcoming not even acknowledging our children in any capacity. She asked what questions do you have we had alot as to be expected when you accept a seat two days before the start of school. My husband and I both felt a negative energy from her and we made the decision that same day to not enroll our kids. If the leadership is unwelcoming, nonchalant and uncaring I could only imagine the lack of support my children would receive.

This school has lots of opportunities for sports and learning, but some, especially for the younger grades, classes are unorganized, unplanned, and unprofessional. The teachers seem to care and help their students out.

Its a shame what has happened to the school, was there for 11 years but had to leave. High school is horrible. Does not follow their charter and very few real teachers are left. Grading was changed to 70% tests/quizzes with no backup or research, one bad grade and you cant get it back up. Admin does not care what is really happening in the classrooms.

The teachers are not into teaching the kids and the kids are taught things that have nothing to do with the tests and assignments. If your child is having problems with school do not even think of trying to solve the problem with the admin. From the beginning the schools administrators have been literal bullies to my children and due to this reason I and many others are leaving this school. If you are looking for a good school this is the last place to look.

Almost 10 years at this school and at the beginning it was wonderful. The elementary campus was warm and a positive place where health and wellness was a focus. Up until a few years ago, things took a downward turn with the new elementary admin. And the high school is more concerned about its sports program than the students' education and wellbeing.

Students who are independent thinkers are punished. One must follow in step, including parents. If you question admin, especially the founder, you're in for trouble.

There are good teachers and staff. It's just a shame that good leadership with good values is lacking. Transparency, integrity and accountability are also lacking.

If your child struggles at all dont bring them to this school. When concerns are brought up to the administration specially the executive director you are met with such hate and disdain and will blame everything on your child and the parents. You concerns will not be addressed and you will be treated as a cancer once you bring up and concerns . The New teachers are really good but it wont take long for them to be outcast if they go against the grain. The teachers that remain fall in line with the executive directors toxic methods and all yes men or woman.

I have had two attend Corvian, one with special needs and one gifted. I can honestly say that Corvian did not serve either of my children. My child with special needs was marginalized. My gifted child is bored and under served. She only spends half a day in school because Corvian ran out of advanced courses. There are some excellent and dedicated teachers. But the general culture of the school is unwelcoming to parental feedback.

This school cares about nothing other than standardized test scores. If your child performs average or above on standardized tests and benchmarks, there's little-to-no care if they're struggling day to day in the classroom. Teachers teach to the test and a large percentage of time is dedicated to "EOG Prep." They claim to follow the Basic School Philosophy, which includes teaching the "whole child", but couldn't care less if your child is struggling with any kind of mental health issue. Have a student with a disability? Good luck. They will provide the bare minimum and then remind you that you chose to be there, as if your choice doesn't afford you IDEA and civil rights protections. This could be because they don't want to spend the money on kids with disabilities and would rather spend it on things like a new multi-million-dollar sports field, or it could be because they just can't keep the staff to actually provide your child with what they need. Maybe it's a little bit of both. Leadership at the top is abysmal; the school is run like a dictatorship. The Board of Directors should govern the school, including the director. That's not the case here. The director controls it all, so good luck if you have any issue. The Board is in her back pocket. If you're on the fence about sending your kids here, I suggest that you run, don't' walk, in the other direction.

Many of the teachers at the school are good. There is a lot of turnover at the school however. There are exceptions as may well be at other schools as well. We were initially excited about Corvian due to their whole health of the child approach. This has gone out the window post Covid and Ive heard many parents say the same. There is a lot of yelling at children in the classroom which should not be condoned. My son loved school until his 5th grade year at the middle school. The homework is overwhelming and one of his teachers consistently gives weekend homework as well which should be open for family time. He will not be attending Corvian next year.

I would highly recommend Corvian Community School. They hold students accountable for behavior and academics. I think the bad reviews are from parents who are mad at admin for holding their children accountable. The staff really care about the students and want everyone to succeed. The high school is college prep and has really prepared my children for college and beyond!

Schools all across Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, and our country are suffering from the same staffing issues that Corvian has faced. This is a pervasive problem and not one that is exclusive to one individual school. Our two daughters have had excellent experiences at Corvian. They have grown academically and socially and we are thankful. However, we recognize that the school has played a small role in this development. The majority of this has come from parental involvement and accountability. This would be my recommendation to all other parents. Do not rely on a singular source to enrich your child. This is too much of a burden, and is an unreasonable expectation in todays world of education. You need to be the one to guide, and yes, sometimes educate your child. Everyone needs to be held accountable: Corvian and your student. Get involved. There are numerous ways of lending support to the school and by doing so the overall experience will be enriched.

This school is beyond repair at this point with the current administration. Bullying tactics drive teachers out in swarms at Corvian. The students are not making grade level gains because the administrators can not treat the staff with decency and respect.
Before you send your child to this school, ask how many teachers they have changed during the school year. Students spend most of their times in classes with substitutes on computers doing mundane tasks with a lack of rigor.

The school had to close last month because they did not have enough substitutes to cover staff shortages. This is a MAJOR red flag.

My 2 kids have thrived at Corvian and have attended for 10 years. My high school senior is more than prepared for college and my middle schooler is ready for high school. We are so pleased with the AP instruction. Teacher turnover has been challenging especially mid year at times, as it has been at other schools in the area and throughout the U.S. Corvians administration has always been responsible and responsive to any of our questions and concerns. This school has been a great constant for my kids and I am happy we are there!

Went to this school for almost 10 years from elementary to high school. The school's whole child and nutrition philosophy disintegrated as the years passed. The high school abandons that philosophy and is trying to be rigorous for college. Unfortunately, all campuses struggle in teacher retainment pre and post covid, and teacher morale is low if you're not part of the inner circle with leadership. Critical thinking and questioning leadership is off the table. My kids are now in public, private and homeschooled and have quite some basic educational gaps to fill.

If you choose this school, keep your ears and eyes open and go with your gut. Don't wait it out hoping for improvement.

This school can work for your family if your philosophy aligns just right with the head staff. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

I am a student at the middle school and its just awful the board and teachers treat student with special needs different like they are children and dumb. they will barley follow an IEP and if you are in the parking lot and grabing your backpack at 7:44 and in the school at 7:45 you will still be counted late. thank you and do not make the same mistake my parents did.

The school director a destructive presence at the school, and any teacher who wants to keep their job must swear kiss up to her to ensure they keep their position. Teachers leave in a stampede because the pay is too low and the director is a bully. One science teacher had to teach 12 classes, many of them simultaneously, literally running back and forth between classrooms, because they couldn't get anyone to accept a job there. The highschool is a multi-million dollar disaster with no cafeteria. Better to pay teachers decently. What kind of health and wellness school is catered by chick fil A? Teachers and students flee mid year.

Never seen anything like it. We have kids here and other schools public and private and teacher turnover is shocking,. Most months a teacher is fired for free thinking or resigns mid year. I've never seen that at any of our other children's schools. I saw someone estimated 50% and it must be close. They can't backfill the political fires and frustrated resignations so random parents and temps fill a big percentage of classes. EC is a non-concern. Kids are basically ignored if they need help unless it gets severely escalated- like get a lawyer bad. It's happened a number of times and as I mentioned, I've never seen it at any other CMS or private school. So, what's the issue? Fish rots from the head down. It's a toxic place because of leadership.. Buyer beware.

We have mixed feelings about this school. Definitely not all us boasts, but still better than the CMS schools. Teachers are responsive and hold kids accountable but they cant seem to keep good teachers. Many teacher are responsible for more than one class so they really cant teach- just go room to room posting assignments for students and not actually teaching or helping them. Also, staff and admin seem to allow racist and inappropriate behaviors and comments without checking it in teachers and other students, not do they seem to enforce rules equally. Students given lots of busy work, but arent graded on it. Many classes only grading one or two things per semester so if you test poorly you cant bring your grade up- if youre going to have the kids do the work they should get credit. Athletic coaches also play favorites, so its no more than rec teams. Overall, its a safe option and teachers do respond and offer help after asking.

If you are interested in your childs overall education, dont send them to Corvian. Its basically just babysitting. They do send plenty of homework so you have time to home school your kids every night, but thats pretty much all the teaching they will receive. They waste a lot of the day on non- learning activities like plays, movement breaks and YouTube. They dont have time to learn because they have to teach a topic and practice it within a tight 30 min schedule and then move on to another subject. The tours are misleading. They tell you the kids receive differentiated learning and they meet your kid where they are. That was what sold me on the school, but it is untrue. All kids in each grade get the exact same assignments and short learning schedule. When the teacher sends an email to the class, every kid in that grade, in the whole school, gets the exact same email and the teacher just edits their name on the signature. The teachers have no autonomy, no decision making authority and they have to copy admin if a parent sends them an email and they respond. Many times, the teachers response is just that they are referring your email to admin for response. Listen during the tour. They will tell you some truthful things like the fact that Stacey was just a mom that wanted to start her own school. She was not an educator, but now here she is running three schools. Again, not a teacher, but making decisions about your childs education. Just let that part sink in because youll miss it in all the other things they fill you with which turn out not to be true. There is a high turnover which really defeats their loops because your kid will rarely get the same teacher for both years in a loop. There are some great teachers there and if you get one of those, you are lucky. If you get one of the others, youre in for a bumpy ride. The kids that need extra help dont get it at Corvian- they dont have the education or training to provide it. Ill go out on a limb here and say its because its run by a non-educator. You wouldnt hire a brick mason to do your plumbing work, and you probably shouldnt send your kids to a school run by someone with no experience teaching. Dont miss the red flags during the tour because you fall for the heartfelt videos. Your kids will get so far behind other schools that youll have to stay at Corvian because theyd fail if you move them. Dont get caught in this trap like we did. Lastly, after school is like a WWE match.

The principal is the biggest egomaniac and speaks inappropriately about students and teachers and divulges information unprofessionally. Its abhorrent that she is allowed to keep her job. Shes a bully and forces children to admit to things they didnt do or spend the rest of the day in the office. Depends on your child and there classroom. Many teachers do not give leveled work. Its a one size fits all activity or worksheet which btw theyve really moved towards. Less and less hands on and more and more piles of papers coming home.

This is my daughters second year at Corvian. She is in 6th grade. We love the school. She has really grown academically and in confidence. I can tell the staff really cares about the students and work hard to make sure they get any extra help needed.

Excellent! We have been at Corvian since they received their charter. My family absolutely loves the school! I love seeing Stacey's vision unfolding year after year. She truly pours her heart and soul into this school, it's seen and felt. I have never had a complaint in seven years. I'm excited for this school year and many more to come!

The admin team is fantastic. We come from a traditional public school and I emailed the principal several times and always received a reply a wee later. She was never able to meet. Corvian admin team responds within hours and their door is always open, even the Executive Director! I love how the ED is a business woman, she is so smart!

I have children at all three schools and they have excelled at Corvian and I cannot wait for them to graduate from Corvian. Admin is strong, staff is wonderful. The high school is amazing, I know my child will go to a good college b/c of the Corvian high school and their commitment to an excellent education (socially and academically).
I have noticed that there is a large group of parents who have been at Corvian for a long time who are very entitled and I feel bad for the staff and admin. I would love for them to see if the grass is greener on the other side.
If you decide to send your child to a choice public charter school which happens to be a Basic School, Basic School = accountability. I feel like some parents think Basic School is free flowing and students should not be held accountable. If you want that then send your kids to Pioneer Springs.

My child is in the high school and I was pleasantly surprised by how well-managed and strong the program is for a new high school. The administration and teachers are clearly working hard to establish a strong sense of community and to inspire students to be lifelong learners. This is an excellent school for parents who want their children to be challenged academically, but within a small, close-knit community.

There are some positives but ask any elementary parent who has been here longer than two years and they will tell you this campus has really changed. Leadership doesnt want to hear from parents and doesnt seem to be committed to the whole child philosophy. More interested in making Corvian like Lake Norman Charter but with a few extra things that LNC doesnt have. Keep it Basic School enough that it seems appealing to new families. Most of us can see through it. We know what it used to be.

This is the part that makes most people want to pull their hair out! The schools director likes to talk in circles and has an excuse for everything. She is not a problem solver and when asked questions, quickly gets defensive. She states she wants the schools philosophy and sells it well at tours but her actions and the changes she has made are anything but whole child. The Basic School is not followed and when asked any questions about how or why anything is done her answer is that they are preparing them for the upper grades and life. She offers no valid argument and if you push any issues, she quickly puts you on the Trouble Parent List. Most parents feel the same but are afraid to seek out help or offer constructive criticism because they fear her and her vindictive ways.

Most teachers are NOT differentiating. Theyre giving students the same work and expect parents to do the leg work or hire tutors. Its always this is what your child cant do instead of a plan on how to get your child where they need to be. Administration will back the teachers no matter what and offer no help or solutions either.

Research shows students do not benefit from homework in any way. Yet Corvian is pushing an increase in homework every year and students are punished if homework is not completed by due date. In the lower grades, they must sit aside and do homework while others play. This does not coincide with the schools philosophy (like many other things). Less than stellar. We are super disappointed in the change of administration over the last two years. Everything has quickly changed. Its no longer about developmentally appropriate, meet children where they are at, foster their growth through whole child learning. Its keep up with whats going on at other schools. They dropped yoga, two recesses (only k-2 now) and much of the choice in curriculum for the teachers from what weve gathered. We are looking at other schools and hoping we find something that lives up to the expectations!

She has grown so much in her academics thanks to the wonderful teachers who care and really focus on each child. Homework in second grade has increased but is not overwhelming like Ive heard from some other friends with kids in other schools. I think its a great balance and they give families the opportunity to have family time and activities during the week and not have homework every night of the week.

My children have attended this school for over 5 years. In that time yes, there have been changes. But change isn't always a bad thing. In fact, every time there is a change that I may wonder about, it always proves to be a positive. I have always been able to get in touch with anyone in administration and teachers alike. Not only that, but they have always shown genuine care and concern for my kids as people. Prior to my kids attending here, they went to CMS schools. I can guarantee this, everyone there didn't know my child's name, didn't greet them kindly in the hallways. They were nameless to the staff for the most part and there wasn't any personal connection. It seems to me that we live in a time where if we don't like something or someone we are automatically defensive and think they are out to get us. Have I loved every single teacher that my kids have had? Of course not, this is the real world. I want my kids to learn that just because you don't like a teacher or a boss, doesn't mean that you can't learn anything from that person and doesn't mean that they don't do a good job. Learn to thrive in any situation. As a whole, I have liked their teachers. I have felt support. As far as Ms. Cindy taking over, I am over the moon. If you feel that she only handled discipline, then I am sorry but I just don't think that is accurate. I volunteer quite a bit, so I am there. She has been a leader there for a while and knows those kids like the back of her hand. They love and respect her. Don't always assume that you know everything, that's where we get tripped up I think. After all, we aren't in the trenches at school everyday and don't truly know every detail. Just like you can't know everything that happens behind the scenes anywhere else. I feel that if you don't trust that the people in leadership, as well as teachers have the best intentions at heart, then maybe this CHOICE, isn't the right school for you. Also, in all employment areas, people very often go to school for one thing but are completely talented and capable in a totally different role. I am excited about the things to come with Corvian. Do I think there will bumps in the road? Of course! Anything worth putting time and energy into does. I am thankful though for the safe, educational and caring environment we have experienced and welcome the future.

Often people are put in leadership positions that do not have the credentials to be there. Case in point, the new middle school principal for the 2019-2020 school year is a social worker who started her career in the nursing home/home health sector and later transitioned over to education as an assistant teacher, Spanish teacher and who this past year has been in charge of all discipline issues at the school. She does not have an undergraduate or graduate education degree that I know of. If she does, those degrees are not listed under her credentials on the school webpage. This is clearly not a person that has the background or experience to lead a school. I will say we were very pleased with the outgoing principal the few times we were able to talk with her. She is an excellent teacher and leader. She also has all the right credentials to lead a school.

I rarely hear about students being bullied, but the administration and some teachers will bully and micromanage students relentlessly. We have had and continue to have these experiences mainly with admin. I agree with what someone else who wrote a review said - minor incidents are treated like federal cases. The smallest things are made into a huge deal. I have no idea how the current Dean of Students (soon to be 2019-2020 Principal) has time to micro manage that many students. It's so bad, one of our health care providers has advised us to ignore all calls from the school unless it's an emergency. All of her families that go to Corvian are having the same issue.

Corvian use to, but I'm not sure what happened beginning in the 2017-2018 school year. When you have a totalitarian regime leading the school, that does not really develop character or respect. It's definality their way or the highway. I have noticed over the past two years how administration works less and less with families. It's more of an us against them type mentality the second you step foot in a meeting. They will hear you out, but in the end what they say goes. That type of behavior does not develop integrity, compassion and respect.

It went from great back in the early years to really bad during the 2018-2019 school year. I'm not sure what changed, but it's for the worse. The school is losing so many students. Teacher and student turnover the past two years has been very concerning. Administration (in middle and elementary) does a great job of mentally wearing students down and making them feel horrible for the smallest of things. It's really a joke. Thankfully we have other excellent options for schooling and we will no longer have to tolerate the Corvian environment.

I think the approach to homework in grades K-2 works well. I think the 1-2 worksheets they give on Friday to be turned in the next Friday in grades 3-5 is not acceptable. My older elementary children need more than 1 hour to 1.5 hours of homework a week.

The target audience is wealthy parents. The students are fine as are about half the teachers but the curriculum is not rigorous and the leadership is greatly insufficient. Promotion is based on favoritism. If you're not sure just ask to see credentials for the leadership staff.

When my son was accepted at Corvian we were estatic. My son has an iep for a specific learning disability related to reading and for A.D.D. accomodations so we were invited to attend a mtg at the school to (I thought) address my son's EC needs. Instead, I was brought into the room with the director and several other administrative staff who stated that while technically my son was allowed to have a disability and they "had to" accept him that he could not present with any behaviors associated with his diagnosis. In other words, he could have A.D.D. but not appear distracted, recieve extra support from staff, or have breaks if overwhelmed. When I questioned this, they accused me of not wanting to "hold (my) son accountable." They said that any behavior problems would be refered to their attorney who would attempt to prove in court that my sons behaviors were NOT due to his disability. The director stated that the attorney was generally successful at this but should he not be successful that my son would have to spend the entire day isolated in a room by himself. The school even admitted to doing that to another child whose parents refused to take them out of the school. The director than recommended the Fletcher school (a school for disabled kids that costs over 20k per year) and said that should we continue to pursue enrollment at Corvian that my son would have to come in for all day testing and that they would likely retain him a grade.
I know that I could have fought all of this. But I couldnt sacrifice my sons wellbeing in the name of equality. But this school is certainly not what it seems.

Terrible leadership. The ED and AD are among the worst. Be wary if you have an athlete who wants to go far. Some of the coaches are excellent but it is hit or miss.

Wow. The chaos at the school is beyond crazy. Loud classrooms and teachers that are often too busy with issues to likely teach effectively. My child tells me some days it is so loud in her classes at the MS that it is hard to concentrate. Communication is not the school's strong point. It is all over the place. If you are close with the admins I am sure life is easier for you here. The head of the school is not an educator but is still in charge of it all. My child played fall sports at the school and that was also quite chaotic. The coach was a terrible communicator and my impression of the AD is less than favorable. She never responded to emails when I had a question. She has no AD background and went from teaching elementary PE to AD which is interesting. We are pulling our child at the end of this year for our home school. I would be very careful and aware of what is going on if you send your child here. Will it be a good school in a few years? Not at the rate they are going with such high turnover in students and teachers. No one stays long here.

I don't even know where to begin. The leadership at this school is terrible. I have never seen anything like it. Chaos. Total chaos. My child is very behind compared to what her peers are learning in public and private school. I am upset we wasted so much time here. I know some of the parents who are happy here are tight with admin and get special treatment or their kids would not do well in public school because they would actually have to follow rules and have structure. Children need structure. Children need to be challenged, no matter what their academic level is. Please please please do your research before sending your child here.

Terrible my child had 10 sight words for a quarter, math was counting. I pulled my child out mid year, the zone school had 255 sight words all of which my child learned and math was additio. And subtraction. I know several parents that have pulled thier kids out put them in other schools and they were far behind.

There is very few minorities in this school which shows the level of meanest in white kids in this school towards the ones that don't look like them. I constantly have to build up my child confidence against this and some teachers try to fix this but not all.

Overall my experience with the education of the school is great. I like what she is learning and how and what she retains. The issue I have with this school is the dictating what can be ate and what can and cannot be worn. There is not a valid reason with clothing b/c my child has hurt herself wearing sneakers but they will tell you to pick another school. SO if you can deal with the petty rules they have the education is good thus far but needs work on everyone is equal no matter the color of their skin that needs to be taught better to these kids.

If you are a parent with a special needs child, I would highly recommend an advocate with you at all meetings. The policies in place here are not in line with Federal Law (IDEA). Also the administration admits to not having the funding needed to accommodate special needs children.

We had an amazing experience with our children, until we enrolled our special needs child. We felt that the IEP Team took advantage of our limited experience and excluded us from any decisions. There were a number of incidents where my child was setup to fail with the Administration threating ISS as a solution. After some investigation we found that the school was breaking Federal (IDEA) Law. For any current or future parents that want to give Corvian a chance, be sure to have an Advocate with you that knows your child's rights and not let the Administration walk over you.

Corvian is great if your child is a self motivator and really only needs someone to give them the material and go though it once for them. If your child needs any extra help and doesn't grasp the concept quickly its not the school for you. If you have a child that is in the EC program there is no tolerance for there behavior. They expect autistic children to control their behavior and really don't attempt to teach then anything. Its just babysitting. If your child has a melt down or shows any autistic behavior that they consider different they will send the child home and tell you that your child is bullying. An autistic child does not know what bullying is. Its just easier than hiring qualified teachers.

The administrators are all about looking good to the parents. Stacey Haskell only cares about the money the school needs to expand. Maybe if her salary was less than $75,000/year she could afford to build that high school. The first year they had a middle school they hired an Athletic director that had no sports. They had teachers volunteer to coach the few sports they offered.

As long as your child tows the party line they are fine. If your child is different then they do everything they can do to encourage you not to return. They want perfect children with no issues. They teach to the whole child as long as the child does what they want a cause no issues.

Most teachers try to do their job but the administration gives them so little guidelines and then when they think outside the box the administration shuts them down. Teachers are required to put on a play at least one per trimester and a lot of class time is spent doing this. Not teaching core subjects.

Very inconsistent in what is taught from classroom to classroom in each grade. Some might be learning a lot in one class and others not so much. We are pulling ours at the end of the year and much tutoring has been done throughout due to the huge academic gaps. The board follows the orders of the Executive Director (really all of the members of Administration) who has no business running a school but no one is telling her no. They do not like people disagreeing with them in any way. People leave every year to go elsewhere and the lottery numbers are very low. Teachers at this school pull their kids to go elsewhere!! That says a lot. Word gets around about things. The classrooms are also noisy all of the time. People seem to be happy in the lower grades but not later on. That is when people leave and then must deal with the fact that their children are likely behind.

My child came home from school Friday to tell me the PE teacher is gone. It would have been nice to get a note from admin letting us know. How difficult is it to give us parents a heads up? We are supposed to be a community. The community feel is seriously lacking here! Some parents and I were comparing the yearbook last year to the teachers this year. I can not believe how many teachers and families have left. I had no clue!!!!!!!! I knew more of what was going on at our previous CMS school than here at Corvian. Everything here is so hush-hush. While my child's teacher is very nice, I had to start paying for a tutor weekly outside of school. I was told at conferences that my child is doing well academically. That is not true at all. Our tutor, who is a teacher, said my child is unfortunately behind. My eyes have been opened this year and we will not be back. If it weren't already March, we would be gone.

My son has absolutely thrived at Corvian. They have managed to challenge him and keep him engaged. He is excited to go to school everyday. His teachers have been absolutely wonderful. The entire school has such a community feeling. Every time we step through the doors, we are greeted with smiles and hellos. I've never heard a staff member use anything but a kind tone with the children. They've maintained discipline in my son's classroom while allowing a little more breathing room than many schools. I have nothing but good things to say.

Wow, I'm surprise to see all this comments, I'm agree with a few of the positive reviews, especially when the say "this is my first year.. and we love it". I hope you all keep the same feeling after the end of the year, as I did. I can say that this school work and plan school activities around stay-home parents and school staff personal time. No consideration for full time working parents, there's no parent - teacher conferences or PTA, the conferences are held individually only. They have Yoga class! Homework? not enough that's for sure. If there is a day off during the week, kids won't have homework. It doesn't make sense. They teach Spanish, but is not graded.. what's the point? With all the technology we have, teachers are forgetting to work on their calligraphy.
Don't get me wrong, my kid's teachers are great people and I hope they are doing their best.

Corvian is a wonderful school! My children are thriving. I love the health and wellness focus, love the administration team and love our teachers. I feel like the parents who leave our school and write negative comments leave because their kids are held accountable for behavior. These parents are usually on their 2nd or 3rd school. They are running from something! I occasionally sub in the lower grades and appreciate the discipline policy and feel the teachers and admin team hold our students and parents accountable. The Elementary School Director is hard working and has changed our school for the better!
I appreciate how hard the staff works for our children. I think the ED has done an exceptional job with finding the right people, finances, facilities and growing a "debt-free" school.
We are not going anywhere!

I cannot say enough good things about our experience at Corvian. This is our 3rd year at the school. I want to address a couple of the previous comments and hopefully clear up some misperceptions they are creating about our school. While these folks are obviously entitled to their opinion some are just stating information that is not true. "There has been no change in the board since the school opened." Not true. "Our test scores do tell a story. It tells a story of stagnant growth." Corvian has two years of published test scores. Click on the links provided on this site and you can see the scoring results are moving upward. Also keep in mind we have only been testing for 3 years. That is not an appropriate amount of time to declare things stagnant and or slipping. And you cannot compare us score wise to CSD who has graduating seniors. Obviously they have been testing many more years. This person also addresses an administrator leaving 3 years ago. 3 years. This has absolutely nothing to do with what is going on with our school this year. Time to let that go. The most deeply offensive comments are about the "behavior children" as I myself have a child that does have behavior issues. Unless you have been in our situation you have NO room to discuss how that is handled. Corvian has done nothing but work with us, offer resources, set up plans for our child. I have never once witnessed "kids misbehaving get special treatment and are rewarded for their bad behavior." I am curious as to how much in class volunteering these people have done. I've volunteered weekly in classes, attended field trips, book fairs, etc. I have certainly never seen bad behavior rewarded and always felt it was managed properly. I feel like on these websites you get a handful of angry parents that want their voices heard loud and clear. Well I'm a happy parent and I want my voice heard too. Corvian has been a blessing for our family. We came from a private school so we have experience with both types of environments. I have emailed the elementary admins on several occasions. Within minutes both emailed me back. The teachers communicate well via email and phone calls. We get weekly newsletters updating us on what each class is working on. So when you read some of these negative reviews keep in mind there are many people happy at Corvian and have happy kids there!

This is our first year and I can already see this school is in need of major changes. My child who came from a great CMS elementary school last year tells me the kids in class are loud, don't listen to the teacher, are never in trouble for being bad and can be very mean. After talking to other parents and reading past reviews, many families agree. This is a big problem. We are not happy with our zoned middle and high school so we applied for charters. I was excited when my child received a spot at Corvian but I don't see how we can even make it a year here when my child comes home everyday and tells me what a zoo the classes are. I should have known when we were told there is not a discipline system in place that the classes would be chaotic. I have rules at home for my kids and consequences for not following the rules. Schools should be the same way. We should be setting them up for success, holding them accountable and preparing them for the real world. In the real world your boss isn't going to give you a nice little chat in the hall asking to please make a better choice over and over and over again. Let's be real here. I'm not saying yell or embarrass the child but just hold kids accountable in a positive way (personal behavior chart for parent and child works wonders). I just can't wrap my head around this and hope there will be some changes. It doesn't take a genius to figure out many families have left and it's time to figure out why and make some changes. I will not be part of a school where large numbers of families come and go every year. And one more thing! Why is the principal of elementary not involved with the kids or parents? My child has no clue who she is. At our previous school, the principal helped at carpool at least once a week to be involved, we received phone calls and newsletters from the principal and every child knew who the principal was. I figured for a small school there would be better communication and kids would feel part of a family. I'm not finding this to be the case at all. Hoping things change or we are gone.

I was so impressed with our first year. Lisa Humphries was absolutely amazing. My son's teacher was amazing. There was such a different feel in the school. When the Executive Director drove Lisa away, the school went downhill fast. Instead of looking for a new Elementary School Director with a school administrating background, she hired her good friend, who is terrible at her job and it's clear she has no idea what she is doing. She has NO experience, no enthusiasm or passion and not personable at all. Corvian has a large amount of EC kids and kids with behavior issues. It's very distracting in the classrooms and takes away from the academics. How can it be managed when 1) there are no consequences 2) The kids misbehaving get special treatment and are rewarded for their bad behavior 3) We don't have the EC help needed for all these kids. The Teacher Assistants (many with no experience in a school before) are stuck trying to manage these behavior kids and EC kids. The kids who could really use that extra little help from the assistant get pushed to the side. Then the kids who need to be challenged are bored. It's very sad. I would be very concerned about all the families who have left and the teachers who have left. There are many red flags. The test scores are not that great considering we have a TA in every classroom. Many of the kids who were academically above grade level have left the school. It will be interesting to see how the scores will be this school year. There is a small clique at this school who likes to tell people Corvian is "magical", but that is far from the truth. Please do your research!!!! EDITED TO ADD: To the parent who commented that I left "probably due to a discipline issue"...you are sort of correct. We left because there is a LACK of discipline. Kids are out of control here. The kids don't listen to the teachers and there are some violent outbursts with some of the kids. I'm glad consultants were sent in to figure out why so many families have left and to figure out what is going on with this school. I'm glad that results from the parent survey showed that discipline was a big concern. Obviously it's not just me. Look at all the families who have left the past 2 years. Thank you for showing how the group of clique parents jump to conclusions and put down parents who do not agree their views.

I do not blame the teachers at all for this. There are many EC kids, many behavior kids. Even with a full time assistant, it's very sad there is so much chaos in the classroom. Without a discipline system in place, kids are never held accountable. As a parent, my kids have clear rules and consequences at home. This does not happen at Corvian. Kids know they can get away with whatever they want. That's why the same kids have in school suspensions, the same kids are getting pulled out for a little talk in the hall...it's clear the lack of consequences are NOT working. Kids NEED consequences. We all have to learn to deal with consequences, even as adults.

I'm not a big fan of a lot of homework, but kids need to practice. Kids need to learn to work hard and learn it takes practice to learn a skill. I had to give my own homework at home to make up for the lack of instruction in the classroom.

Do you think it's fair the children who do not behave get to do "special" things like miss out on class to take the recycling out with the teacher, take a nap, go read a book instead of doing the work the other kids are doing...while the kids who do behave and listen watch these bad behaved kids get special treatment. Our test scores do tell a story. It tells a story of stagnant growth and even slippage in some areas (when you break down the data points by grade). The school does have its positive points but looking at this year of stagnant test growth following the exodus of the directors with the educational background from CSD is telling. There has been no change in the board since the school opened (other successful charters have term ends on their positions and an open application process - not one like ours where open positions are filled by the ED), the administrative positions that become open aren't filled with "outsiders" but with personnel that don't question the status quo...and there is no place for points of view other than that of the ED's or the boards. When you aren't open to other ideas than your own, you lose the opportunity to grow. That a school is better than CMS should not be the measure - the measure should be how the school performs on its own and with that Corvian is average at best.

I would say just look at the test scores. Those scores don't happen without great educators. I am not a clique person and really get a kick reading some of these reviews. I am also of the thought process that I would rather have someone with business acumen. Our school has no debt is supported tremendously by parents both with time and financial contribution. Our children have been in CMS and while our experience was OK it does not compare to Corvian.

This is our daughter's first year at Corvian. She's in Kindergarten. I have a background in early childhood/elementary education and as a first time parent this school has eased all my worries so far! Our daughter loves it and everyone is so friendly! I feel like we are receiving a private school education without the tuition. The staggered entry (and more!) for Kindergarten has been wonderful. I could just go on and on! AND as far as the negative complaints....I have not witnessed any of that!

We attended Corvian for a year and a half. I feel like the administration is lacking and leaves much to be desired. In my opinion, the philosophy and academics are not for every child, it seems geared more toward children with behavioral issues. The elementary building is very small and cramped, almost unbearable when you go to watch a play or attend a class party. I also felt like there are a handful of parents that are an inner circle, they run all of the committees and seem reluctant for help from newer families. My child was happy there and felt loved but, at the same time, we are happy we transferred and are in a more rigorous academic program now.

Wow!!! I wanted to wait until the end of the school year to write a review and I am still so impressed with our little community. My child has never been happier at a school. This positive change has made a love for learning we had yet to see in our child. The administration is amazing, teachers and staff are amazing, the academics are amazing, the nurturing attitude is amazing and this school is just amazing. I could go on!!!! I'm so blessed we are a part of this school and wish every child had this kind of well rounded education.

Funny when you read reviews how you can focus on the negative. I read where some of the negative reviews mentioned other charter schools. When you look the other schools up there ratings are no better if not worse. The founder of the school may not have " an educational background" but she does have business acumen which I would take any day. She has Admin staff that share the vision of what Corvian is all about. Yes the school parted ways late last year with 2 admin staff since you couldn't have 3 directors. For some one to claim their child went backwards? The school is Clique? You can't please everyone I can only say our children have done phenomenal. That's really all we care about. If this school as 10 negative reviews out of 500 plus students maybe the negative people need to be somewhere else. Something tells me no matter where they go they will find fault.

Every school has it's complaints from disgruntled patents. We have been so happy and I think each year will continue to be even better. I will say our director of elementary school has no experience running a school and lacks enthusiasm and warmth. She doesn't have the personality I would expect from a principal. It would be nice to have a principal who is fun, involved with all the kids and warm. However, because the school is run so well and teachers and staff are beyond amazing I can't ask for much more. We have been to 2 other schools and this has by far been the best experience. My child loves going to school and is learning and growing.

Corvian's philosophy is great however the school itself is run like a circus. I have older kids and have never seen anything like it. One week they try one thing then change it then try something else. I felt like my child was a guinea pig and my child's education really took a horribly turn for the worst. The director. I don't even know where to begin. She has made my child cry, she has been extremely rude to me and my family, very unprofessional and it was very clear how uneducated in the educational field she was when I spoke to her. I could tell it was only going to get worse so we left immediately!! We have been very pleased with our new school and I have zero regrets about leaving Corvian. We could not run away fast enough!!!

Every school has its ups and downs and every school has disgruntled parents. That is just a fact. Every school is not going to please everyone. You have to find the right school for your family. Corvian is a unique school that truly and I mean truly cares about the whole child. Teachers work endlessly to meet the needs of children and do not think of their "job" as a job, it is a passion and let me tell you it shows. The administration are all very accommodating and helpful to support their staff as well as help parents in situations where they have concerns. There are many schools in our area and you just have to find the right fit for your child and family. I would guarantee a lot of the negative parents had a bad experience because Corvian is just not the right fit for the family and educational beliefs. Corvian truly is an amazing school that far exceeds my hopes for both my children's educational and social needs. Are there things to work on? Sure! Every school has things to improve upon, but this school will give your child 110% dedication and nothing less. They truly care about the whole child.

We absolutely love this school! Maybe if CMS schools had more business minded leadership, we wouldn't be forced to look elsewhere. We had one child go to our home school for a year and it was run like a zoo. Several teachers there shouldn't have even been employed. Janitor was found sleeping in a classroom. The mix of business experience our exec director has coupled with excellent educators she has surrounded herself with shows her strength in building a great team to successfully educate our children! Just like a business should be-the business of educating our kids! Love the whole child approach taught by PHENOMENAL teachers! Excellent parent participation and communication from teachers to us is very strong. Corvian has exceeded the expectations we have had for our kids' educations! We love it!

Corvian is an amazing school where the students are taught to love learning. The basic school curriculum weaves all disciplines together such that the literacy and art are woven around the math, science and social studies. The children are taught to love and respect themselves, respect everyone's differences, and take care of each other and our environment. The WHOLE child is nurtured here. My children love school and every day is a "GREAT DAY!"

Corvian served its purpose of keeping our child out of CMS for 2 years. The first year was tolerable and our child enjoyed the school but during the 2nd year, things changed drastically. My first interaction with admin was very telling of how things are handled at the school and it did not match my expectations or what I found important. Reading the other reviews, I tend to side with the negative reviews based on my personal experience and can say that they're factual because I experienced the same. The school is filled with many cliques and a very close knit circle with the director who get privileged info (likely why rumors run wild there). The school was not for us or our child and it all came down to admin and how staff handled a few incidents.

This is my second year at Corvian and my two girls are thriving! We are so pleased with the school. I have not experienced anything that the previous negative reviewers have experienced. One school cannot please everyone and I would encouraged prospective families to give it a try and to not base their opinion on a few negative reviews. The director has always been responsive to me. At one point in the summer when some rumors were flying around out of control, I emailed the director (on a weekend in the summer) asking for clarification. She emailed me back the same day! Not only did she explain to me exactly what was happening, but also thanked me for emailing her directly as not one other parent had emailed her previously about this issue. Yes, she has a business background and not education, but business is also important in running a school. She is also a parent who has kids at the school. No one seems to mention the wonderful educators who are in charge of the curriculum, elementary education and EC education. My kids are happy and daily I see how much they are learning. Corvian is a wonderful school!

We spent 3 years at Corvian and experienced much of the disappointing and unacceptable same each year with admin. You are in for a rude awakening if you buy into their claim of always doing what is best for the child and partnering with parents to accomplish that. My interactions with admin could be described as complete opposition and disagreement. Should you address concerns with admin regarding any classroom/teacher issues, you will find yourself on the receiving end of exactly what your child needs to change instead of the teacher. Also, don't expect them to challenge your child whether your child is gifted or not. What you can expect is a closed off and unprofessional Executive Director, zero transparency, and zero support in your ideas for your child. In terms of the Board--that's just a group of buddies that come together to fulfill the requirement of having a governing body and follow the direction of the Executive Director. We thankfully are elsewhere now but I always wished Corvian realized that it was my child (the child they claim comes first) that suffered during the adult disputes given their unwillingness to even remotely give life to my ideas for MY CHILD.

I have a Grandchild who attends Corvian. Words can't express the joy I feel when I see my only Grandchild excited to go to school. I am fortunate enough to drop off/pick him up many days during the week, visit the classroom and I can see how well loved he is. I hear everything he learns and he loves to go on about his day. I believe kids need to have a love of school and learning. I see this happening at Corvian every day. Academically and socially he is thriving. We are blessed to be a part of this amazing school.

This is our third year at CCS and we absolutely LOVE it here! I couldn't imagine my kids being at another school. The teachers are amazing. Truly amazing. I have one child who is ahead academically and her teachers have been so helpful in finding other ways to challenge her. My other child gets help from the literacy team. He gets one on one help with an amazing literacy teacher. While this school is still new, they have done a wonderful job working out the kinks and are always looking for ways to improve. Both my children are happy to go to school every day. They are learning, growing and loved by their teachers. They are at school learning, but still get to be kids. What more could I ask for?

We are on our 2nd year at Corvian and couldn't be happier. Our oldest daughter had really lost her love for learning while attending our neighborhood school, yet from day one at Corvian that love for learning and excitement for school has not only returned, but grown exponentially. The teachers are devoted and skilled and the community among the families has been a huge blessing. We're thrilled with the caliber of education our kids are receiving, yet they are enjoying the process along the way. Really can't speak more highly of our experience at this school.

The philosophy, staff, parent volunteers and students together create a unique, incredible environment in which to grow academically and socially. We LOVE this school! So far it's beyond our expectations. The most amazing teachers! Our son is happy to go to this school every single morning. He feels safe and loved here. He progressed a lot academically. We experienced other public schools before with his older sister and we can tell this school makes such a difference.

I thought this school would be a dream come true, it ended up being our worst nightmare. We had an awful experience and would never trust these people with any of my children. My child was behind academically, socially and emotionally. Now my child is getting good grades, self esteem has returned and has tons of friends. I do not think this school will ever have it together as long as the current director is in charge. She has no educational background and did not handle out situation appropriately or professionally and my child is the one who paid for it. Like the others said, don't bother!!

Don't bother. I know this is a new school, but we've had a horrible time. Last year, when the ED pushed out the other two wonderful directors, the tone of the whole school changed. We thought we'd try to stick it out, but we just couldn't stay. Good luck to those who stayed, but this school has a LOT of kinks to work out before they will ever be successful.

This is our third year at Corvian and we have absolutely no complaints. I actually don't know what we would have done without Corvian. You can walk into the school and feel such a difference from a typical public school setting. It's lively and kids are able to be kids. The teachers and staff are super friendly, loving and have a huge passion for teaching children. As for the comments below about the Director - she is not the lovey dovey type person. But she is passionate about the vision of the school and the children and her business background is crucial for running a school!!! I can't imagine the stress and constant work it takes to run a school. The Director has done a phenomenal job. People need to remember this is a NEW school. Community School of Davidson had kinks to work out when they first opened and are now a top rated amazing school. Corvian will be the same way!!! Our children are learning, loved and so happy.

I am the parent who posted a 4 star review on October 23. In that amount of time, my opinion of the school continues to drop drastically. We have invested a lot in Corvian--both financially and emotionally--and had such high hopes that it would be an outstanding Basic School. Unfortunately, it seems to be moving further and further away from it's original vision, and lacks strong leadership with experience in school administration. We have a wonderful teacher, but that is not enough to hold a school together. There is very little transparency, and I have lost faith in those who run the school. We will not be returning next year. The fact that 4 families have left in December alone to go to another charter school (Thunderbird) is very telling, and worrisome.

We have been at Corvian for 2.5 years and we love it. My children are thriving there. They were getting lost in the public school they went to prior to Corvian. The teachers have really taken the time to get to know my children and their needs. They both love school and have a thirst for knowledge since coming to Corvian.

We were happy with this school until the director with the basic school background left. We were hoping to be at a school like CSD because that is what we were lead to believe it was based from. Well it is nothing like CSD!! The director seems to not want a relationship with families or even be bothered. My kids never even knew who she was. She had never said hello to any of us. So unwelcoming. She also does not have a background in education. I have never heard of an administrator of a school have zero educational background. We were very uncomfortable with that and in the end we felt that was not what is best for children. The school seems chaotic, disorganized and unprofessional. We had high hopes but we could not have been more disappointed. I agree with previous posters. Safe yourself the trouble.

I too was very excited to have my child admitted to this school. Having been at the school for the past couple of years that has tapered off as I ve become more familiar with the inner workings of the school. The Administration is very interested in your time and your money but not much else. While there is a definite need for a governing body that makes decisions for the school the administration/board at Corvian has a definite agenda that is not welcoming to other concerns or opinions. Right now that agenda is benefitting my child and Corvian is admittedly better than my home school. But my concern is what happens when an instance occurs where I need to be an advocate for my child or express legitimate concerns the atmosphere does not exist that will welcome that type of input. Ultimately, I believe it comes down to that the school was founded from a parent s sincere desire to provide their child with what their vision of school should be for their child. As with most things that are done from the heart you become fiercely protective of something that is so intimately yours. But that protectiveness especially in this instance can be a double edged sword.

Our family is new to Corvian and so far we are generally pleased. We are very happy with our childs TEACHER, which is really what we've been going on so far. For the parent who stated in their review: "There are no free lunches and no free transportation so you have to commit as a parent." SHAME ON YOU! What a feeble-minded comment!!! Please explain to me how parents who may have different circumstances in regards to being able to provide lunch and or transportation are not commited parents?!?! If this mentality is behind the operations at Corvian, we all may want to run for the hills because I see a discrimination suit in their future. Every child of every circumstance deserves the best education possible. I though that was part of Corvian's values. With that said, while I am pleased with my child's teacher, I think there is room for improvement on many levels at Corvian. Our family believes in the philosophy and values promoted and we are willing to give it time. We truly hope administration stays true to their vision.

Overall, we are very happy at Corvian. The school provides a whole-child approach, treating each child as a unique individual. Our experience in the classroom has been absolutely wonderful: the teachers are amazing, a high level of differentiation occurs, and the thematic units are outstanding. Corvian is a fun place for kids to learn, and my daughter is definitely receiving a quality education. The school has grown tremendously, and my long-term concerns do revolve around the capability of admin to manage a bigger school. The head of school, who is in charge of discipline, hiring, and many education and curricular decisions, has a business background rather than an education background, and that is quite concerning to our family. Some decisions at the school seem to happen on a whim, without consistency. There have also been instances of favoritism. Our hope is that Corvian will make it through the growing pains and be stronger than ever. Ultimately, and despite the growing pains, I would definitely recommend the school for parents looking for a whole-child approach to education.

Our child's private school (that we adored) closed 2 years ago. We were devastated and not thrilled with the options available to us (other private schools were too expensive and we are not impressed with the local public school). We got off the wait list for Corvian at the very end of summer. We were absolutely thrilled! My son has thrived at this school. He loves his teachers and classmates. I am volunteering weekly in the class and get to see the students and the teacher's love for learning. In addition to regular studies the students get: art, PE, spanish, art and yoga weekly. I have never had a problem with parents or the administration (as the previous posters said). This is our 2nd year and we are very happy. I have been extremely involved in all decisions made regarding my child (again not sure what other posters experience was). We have attended board meetings and are impressed with the board and leadership.

Corvian is a wonderful school!!!!! We are very lucky to have such a dedicated group of Directors, teachers and staff. The qualifications of all the Directors are simply amazing and as previous review stated, very well rounded. The parent support is beyond anything I've ever seen. I really could go on. I highly recommend this school to everyone. There were always be people who are unhappy. We are not one of them. We couldn't be more pleased.

The school is clean and nice. The teachers are great and the EC program is finally developing. However, the administration is truly lacking and the board does not seem to carry out its duties but rather does what the executive administrator wants. Parent involvement is highly encouraged. They want our time and money but don't care about our opinions or concerns. Administration disguise issues as being based on what is in the best interest of a child but they make decisions with no consistency and by the whim of the executive director. If you hope to have any say in what is best for your child, I wouldn't attend this school.

This is our first year at Corvian and it is more than we could have ever dreamed of! I am quite baffled at the review below. We came into this school not knowing one single family, yet felt so welcomed. I already have met such wonderful parents! I attended my first coffee chat and the Directors were so personable and families welcomed me to the school. I understand the Executive Director does not have a background in education, but she does have her degree in business and accounting. Every school SHOULD have a Director with a business degree!! Our school is debt free...how many schools can say that?! Our Director of Elementary Education is HIGHLY qualified in education, as well as the Director of Curriculum and Design. It is a very well rounded group of Directors! As for as how my child is doing...my child LOVES school!! My child is learning EVERY day! My child is loved and well cared for! It's all we ever wanted in a school. I highly recommend Corvian!!!

I was very excited when we received a spot through the lottery. It's a difficult school to get into. Sadly enough, if I could back in time I would never enrolled my child there. I admit that my child learned some wonderful things, things that a student would not learn in a traditional public school. However, while the school touts that it accommodates a child's learning style and/or personality type, this was not the case for us. The executive director does not even have an educational background. Two of the other directors left the school to go back to Community School of Davidson due to professional differences they were having with the Executive Director. Many parents are cliquish and frankly it reminded me of being back in high school. I know a lot of parents are thrilled with the school but we found it to be awful and i do not recommend it to anyone.

We have been so happy at Corvian from day one. Now that the school year is nearly over, we can see all of the knowledge she has gained throughout the year. Teachers are so attentive and administration is very approachable! My daughter has engaged in so many academic activities that make learning fun and interesting. Language is offered weekly as well as music, PE, art and after school enrichment activities. So happy to be a part of such a tremendous school!!!

I work at this school. If you want to know what a school is really like, ask the teachers there. Nothing is a better indicator of quality. My coworkers are so committed to what they do, and my administration are AMAZING. I genuinely love my job. I haven't been able to say that at my previous schools.

This is our first year at Corvian and I'm simply amazed. My daughter was almost in tears when I picked her up early from school - she loves it there that much! The teachers focus on the individual child - no labels here - and helps each one grow at their pace. They incorporate fun into learning, it's not a teacher telling you what to remember but teaching through games, songs, rhymes and hands on activities. They embrace creativity and encourage problem solving skills in and out of the classroom. Not only is the staff excellent but also the parents and children. It's worth the daily 1.5 hours of driving knowing my daughter is getting the best education from the best school!

Corvian is an amazing place! The administration is truly committed to the values of The Basic School model. The teachers truly care about your children and respect them as unique individuals. Prior to the school year, teachers have conferences with each family where you tell them about your child...you discuss his/her personality, your goals for the year for them, etc. then they actually use this information to craft their interactions with your child over the school year - when your child walks into the classroom on his first day...his teacher already knows about him/her! My son is excited everyday to go to school. He loves learning. We are so happy to be able to send him to such a wonderful place where he can thrive and learn. Parent involvement is excellent as well. As a charter school - it's expected and the parent's don't disappoint. I can't say enough about this amazing place - it's what I've always wanted school to be like for my son.

Love our school! The teachers are excellent and caring. They teach using a hands on and a critical thinking approach. The school is a nurturing environment that molds our children to become well rounded and responsible citizens. Every staff member is top notch!!
