I went to Burke for a couple of months as a freshman. I repeated the 8th grade, I am far behind on my education.
I am disabled. At the time, I was hardly diagnosed with anything. I have FND, I am autistic with ADHD.
They don't care about the disabled people who have lower support needs. They thought because I am able to walk, speak and learn that I don't need any help.
They answered the questions for me during my physical evaluation. This lady made me exhaust myself going up a flight of stairs and back down, exactly how I said it would. She wrote down that I had little to no struggle with stairs.
If your child needs accomodations and they have an invisible or undiagnosed disability, do not send your kid here.

Great school for the most part. I am a sophomore attending and so far its been good. Although I have had some very strange issues with the special education classes. A few of my classes are near them and I also know someone taking special education. First of all I have seen some of the special education students locked in a classroom by themselves. Which is already crazy! I also have seen multiple instances of special education students lost around the bathrooms and halls with no teachers helping them get around. And my final straw is when me and numerous people in the bathrooms saw a special education student climbing under the bathroom stalls with no teacher or councilor to help guide him . SERIOUSLY BURKE GET SOME BETTER SPECIAL ED TEACHERS !!!

i literally cannot stand going here anymore. im a junior in ap classes, and i have excellent grades, i love (some of) the teachers, but if i had the choice id leave burke high school in a second. first off, they recently implemented a phone rule which makes little sense - if youre going to enact something, enact it on the freshmen and the sophomores, not the kids that just are ready to get out of here. but i. must abide to said phone rule due to the consequences. secondly, the violence in our school is absolutely insane. every day ill be walking to class, and i hear someone screaming at another person in the halls. theres a fight, maybe weekly, sometimes more. no big ones recently, but theres always something. and, there was a kid with a knife at the beginning of the semester! not saying security is bad, they do everything in their power to make us feel safe, i feel the problem is more so the way that problems are solved. making a kid leave for a couple of days to think things through does nothing to be honest, but thats just my opinion. its unsafe, simple as that. next, i cant bring to explain how dirty the school is. last year i was just sitting on the floor and there was a cockroach just sitting there as well. sure, i can understand that there isnt any extreme infestation, but it wasnt the first time or the second, that i had seen a roach just sitting there. next, the bathrooms?! theyre horrendous, today i saw the stalls decorated with sharpie graffiti of a telletubbie. like, the childrens show in a high school. alrighty then. and the bathrooms are like not clean. over the course of the day theres stuff all over the floors, the sinks are clogged..oh the sinks! theres probably 5 working sinks in the womens restrooms throughout the entire school. no handles. i dont know where they went. sometimes there will be girls sitting in the sink and all i want to do is wash my hands. if i cant do that in peace, why do i even bother. thats all i have to say, but im so extremely sick of going to burke. dont do here, for your sake.

The amount of drama that happens at that school is insane. I can't even get to class without seeing some kid on drugs getting pinned down by officers, police dogs sniffing through our bags, the amount of fights plus multiple a day, all the "gun" threats we've gotten, and worst of all the fire drills. People set off the fire alarm so much that people don't even take it seriously anymore. We got two fire alarms in one day BACK TO BACK like not even a 30 seconds later from the first fire alarm. Somehow that school has not been burned down. I hate it there my anxiety is through the roof there... more than usual. BOOOO BURKE BOOOOOO

i came here after going to Concordia high school. their curriculum was such a dumpster-fire approach. when i came to Burke i was able to make my schedule work to graduate on time and i was able to bring my grades up tremendously. i went from failing to b average student and better with time. teachers cared about your success as a student and were great about inspiring learning. i am and will always be proud to be a Burke Bulldog!

I say this because at time teachers can load us up with home and were get a soon date to finish it and we can't and our grades drop and were stuck with no life over the weekends with homework and us teens need that weekend to rejuvenate our senses and get things together for the next week

The teachers at burke high school all have something to give whether its social, business, history, math, or life skills at this school and you can tell the teachers really do care for the students at the school its just the students don't care to learn thats the problem

Burke High School is the worst possible school to send your child to. They lack the benefit of teaching students things that will help them do well on the ACT, SAT, or on their future in general. The school is extremely overpopulated (which I don't understand why due to how terrible of a school this is). Not only that, but way too much money goes to bussing students in to Burke. They have closed campus (which completely sucks), many of the teachers do not care about the success of their students, the principal is never even seen, and the lunches are absolutely terrible. If you want your child to have even a decent education and a good high school experience then I would recommend sending them anywhere but Burke High School.

It's largely overpopulated, which makes it difficult to get to class on time. They recently started making students wear ID's, which is basically a joke. They won't stop you at the front door if you aren't wearing them and they give little to no security. By the end of the year no passes were given out of class unless you had a security escort due to truancy, which really added to the prison feel. There are some teachers who truly do care about the students, but don't have the power to change the rules. Other teachers don't give the proper support/feedback, and don't seem to know what they should be doing. The grading system makes it hard to get an A and even harder to fail. It's obvious many students don't care and it very much affects the environment of the class room. Even AP classes are often dumbed down for the entire class in hopes of better test scores. There are a good amount of after school activities with instructors who actually care about the students, such as drama or band. The students/staff are generally fairly accepting/tolerable about race, sexual orientation, etc. 3 stars because while it's bad, it could be worse.
