I unfortunately had to remove my son from this school. During the first two weeks of school, my son reported harassment and bullying from other students. I spoke with the teachers and the after school support and they stated they had no idea of anything occurring. The children were not being monitored. The incident that broke the camels back was when my son came home with a knot on his head. He said a little girl punched him in the head and then ran and told the teacher he punched her. The teacher believed her and did not help my son. I was infuriated and asked them to look at the tapes; they never did. Do not send your children to this school. Since he has been at his new school, hes not crying anymore. Hes excited to go see his friends and learn. I can relax now and know that he is safe.

The school lacks any sense of leadership within the staff. Kinder and first grade seem to me the only grades that have a handle on curriculum and managing student's needs. Every grade after seems to be the wild west. Everything seems to be last minute, all field trips, school events, fund raising, and major testing, are all told just days prior to the event happening. Any grade after first grade is just a hair better than washoe county. Second grade was just a repeat of first grade. Any parent concerns for safety or learning are dismissed by the Dean of Students. The Dean of students only response to anyone's concern is "I have a Plan for next year, when I become principal". The current principal is a very hands off type person and allows the Dean to run pretty much everything else. The parent teacher communication is awful. I would recommend forming a parent group so information could be shared pertaining to assignments, events, etc.

The administration and teaching staff seem only interested in the students achieving high scores on standardized tests. Making sure the students are learning and retaining useful information is the last priority at this school. My child has attended for three years, and 2 out of 3 teachers have been absolutely awful. My child's teacher this year flat out told me all she wants him to do is score well on the standardized tests. She then told me I should bribe my child with rewards to encourage him to do well on these tests. They are only concerned with getting high test scores and dealing out harsh over the top discipline. If your child is ever disciplined don't waste your time trying to appeal. They treat disciplinary appeals as a mockery and aren't consistent with the information that is provided in their own student handbook. I would never recommend anybody put their child in the south Reno elementary school.

Not a great school. They highly discourage IEPs for students with social and emotional disabilities. They are not a PBIS school and their special education team does handle kiddos with social emotional disabilities.

Coral Academy of Science Elementary South review: a truly awful experience with a cold, arrogant and uncaring administration (Pifer, specifically). If you want your child to be traumatized about "getting in trouble" about any conceivable thing, then this is the school for you. They are more concerned about punishing, rather than caring and teaching the students. We are talking about 5-year-old kids here! Never again.

Unfortunately Coral Academy of Science Elementary-South was an awful experience for my child. Well the school is nice looking in, the administration does not properly handle bullying. One particular member of the administration is arrogant rude and does not care about the safety and security of the children that go there only in the way the school looks from the outside in. I would not recommend sending a child there unless you want poor leadership

Nothing special about this school. While all other WCSD elementary schools have been back full time in class for months CAS is still hybrid because their classrooms are too small for children to socially distance. What do they do? Advertise to enroll even more students in their distance learning program - what happens when it's time to go back full time? There definitely will not be enough space for all these students now!
There is a $160 per semester supply fee. Fine. Ask if there is a discount since children are only in the classroom 2 days a week (40% of the time should equal a 60% discount). Nope, $160 for one orange plastic folder provided to my child this school year. They are still providing to those families in need. Fine. I will be happy to donate what is needed. Nope, they will only take your $$$, the full $160 per semester. Signed up for a laptop at the beginning of school only to not receive one. Where is this $ going?
They dictate what type of snacks your child can have. They claim to follow WCSD wellness program but don't allow your child to have skinny pop (popcorn is an approved snack on the list) but they can have a granola bar full of sugar. makes no sense!
My 1st grader is on his 4th teacher this school year. Overall, the teachers have been great. Miss Suni is wonderful! The principle is out of touch with working parents that have to work full time and do distance learning with their child. She could care less!

Coral Academy of Science is an excellent school!!! My sons started in the 2nd grade and are now in the 10th grade. The students are from all walks of life yet treated equally. The school is the safest in town and does not allow bullying. The staff takes their time to work with all students. One of my sons is a SPED student and the teacher willingly worked with him after school. They provide free tutoring and clubs after school along with child care. I advise all parents to enroll their children in Coral Academy!!! They have high school, middle school and elementary school!!! My niece and nephews now attend the elementary school and love it!!!

Coral Academy Of Science, a charter school that was explained to us as being so much better tan a public school. NOT. News to all parents out there. There is what they call "school law" and "civil law" Many of us have taught our children the right to defend them self. WE ARE WRONG. School law says no, punishment comes to all. After my daughter was attacked and the school admits she was protecting herself, from an aggressor who planned this attack with several friends, my daughter received 3 days off. Schools make it up as they go along. Civil Law; that which states we have the right to defend ourselves, does not apply. We need to find a way to help our children distinguish between and remember {along with all the other policies and practices} what it truly means to us and a SCHOOL to stand up for yourself, and stop a bully.

My grandchild has been in this school now for two years and he loves it. The teachers and administraters are wonderful and helpful. He has been challenged in his work and encouraged to do his best. I love the cultural diversity of the student population as I believe it fosters the most necessary skill of tolerance. The school environment encourages kids to get along and to help each other. Not only is my child getting an excellent academic education he is learning to work and share with others, a vital element of success in the workplace.

In general this is a great school. The teachers are dedicated to student success and work hard to foster a learning environment. My biggest issue with this school is that their calendar is not the same as WCSD. They have random half days and days off no one else has. This means that Boys and Girls club and Vacation Station are not open on the days they have off sometimes. I end up searching for childcare. I just wish they would stick with the same calendar as WCSD.

This is a great school! While the academics do surpass the public schools my kids were in, it also fosters an environment where kids don't have to be judged by other kids and bullied. My daughter said that the kids at Coral are a lot nicer than the ones at her old public school. She mentioned that kids at the old school had potty mouths (in early elementary!) but that she never hears kids swearing or bullying at Coral. And her grades are much improved at Coral, too!

A great school. We are very pleased with it, and our kids love it here, too! We don't worry about our kids dealing with all the crazy things that other kids have to deal with at the public schools. It won't be tolerated at Coral.

Our experience this past school year was good. It had more ups than downs. The teachers are great! After school program was nice for those working late days. A couple disappointments were that the kindergarteners were told they were getting a playground after the cookie dough sale (beginning of the school year), there was still no playground at the end of the school year. Dropping your child off in front of the school is not a big deal but picking them up after school is hard. The parking lot is a madhouse. They do provide a wide variety of after school clubs:) I do prefer this school over my zoned public school. It takes a little getting use to the way CAS does things but it's worth it!!

Absolutely wonderful schooling solution. Teachers bend over backwards to help children excel. My daughter was thought to have a learning disability but after a year at Coral she improved 24 percentage points in standardized testing. Hugely impressed with teacher's dedication and desire to help each child succeed gifted or disabled or just plain average.

I am extremely pleased with my and my child's experience at Coral Academy. The children are challenged academically to a level not generally achieved in a public school in northern Nevada. I have been pleased not only with my son's teacher, but also the administrative staff of the school. The small classroom size is also welcome as it affords the teachers the ability to spend one-on-one time with each student. My younger child will also be attending this school next year.

This school is awful. My younger sister is going here and they treat her so badly I can't even believe it. She has come home feeling so awful about herself because of the way the teachers treat her. She has problems with the other kids at school and the teachers do nothing about it.

The worst school ever. I am a parent. The teachers have been truly hateful toward my child. The claim to be academically oriented, but they have no understanding of gifted children, other than those who excel in math.
