I am a current student at ssmcs, and my experience has been horrible. One thing that mainly upsets me is that one of the teachers are extremely disrespectful and ignorant.This teacher doesnt allow the students to use the restroom and always answers with a bad attitude or just in a rude way in general.They also dont provide the students with enough help and whenever someone asks, they roll their eyes or respond sarcastically. This has made it an unsafe space to ask things because the students have now gained a constant fear of asking question due to the amount of disrespect and neglection. The rest of the school is okay but some of the stuff that is taken lightly, needs to be taken seriously.

This school is extremely amazing to work with! The principal seems to care deeply about the school she represents, the staff, and supporting what is best for the students.

I substitute at this school three times thru Senya. I had the middle school. The sixth grade was the worst class. I had them three times. The third time in Science, they were OK. The first two times, they would not calm down abs I had to call the administration on them and Sheila Palombo said I can not manage my class. It's their job to help me if they class does not want to behave. I can see if I was a teacher and had these student daily and they were acting out. I been to schools where the teacher can not control the class and they still have a job. This school with the ratings has a bad wrap. I have to earn a living, so I can not say no to any school if I get an offer to do the school. I was suppose to do this school in Mid May. Thanks, to Sheila, I lost 2 days of work. Losing those days at that school was God trying to tell me to avoid this school. I hope that school improves and the substitute not to be blamed for a classroom that does not want to behave and do their school work.

This school is little more than a daycare in the elementary grades 1-3. My daughter was so horribly behind and when another boy was harassing her they did absolutely nothing to help the situation as she would come home crying each day unable to do her assignments that they dont teach anything about. How do you expect kids to have self discipline enough to drop a folder and teach nothing. The only reason she could barely hang on in her next school was spending my weekends teaching her and paying for tutor twice a week. To even call it a charter school is a joke. The teachers dont care and likely because theyre underpaid and overworked. Some are nice but ultimately they will not help your child be academically successful.

Horrible experience at this school. My child is brilliant and a very quick learner, but they were not even trying to teach anything, seems like they want the students to fall behind. My child would ask instruction on how to do a worksheet or what not and was told to just go sit down and do it. When reading the other reviews on here about how ssms gets their funding from kids on IEPs, it all makes sense now. The childs best interest is not in the forefront like it should be. They either want to keep kids on Individualized Education Plans or have them fall behind to get them on one in order to get that IEP state funding, based on my experience and other reviews this is my conclusion. Unfortunately my first review is not on here, I did go into more detail on it so it must have been flagged.

We were originally a little nervous about this nontraditional (Montessori style) school. That said, my kids have now been at Silver Sands for grades K thru 7. I am very happy with their progress so far. They have continually scored well on all tests and teacher feedback. Homework is mostly completed at school outside of a few take home projects. My kids have had many of the same teachers for multiple years. Teachers and staff at the school know their names and care about my children. My kids have become unique little people with strong personalities Any problems or issues we have heard about were always addressed by faculty appropriately. I feel we made the right decision with this school.

One of my biggest regrets in life is staying at this school. If my friends didn't come here, I wouldn't stay. Some students even feel that this school cares more about money than they do about the kids that go there. This school gave me extreme anxiety about almost anything, and some of the staff are rude. My class doesn't get any physical activity whatsoever; we got P.E. for only 2 quarters.
Now we just have computer class, and occasionally our teachers will let us play outside for a bit, but Marie Montessori would rarely be disappointed in this "Montessori school." The Montessori thing ends in middle school. I get that we're older, but why call it a "Montessori school" when the most Montessori thing is that we get to sit at tables and we get free choice sometimes? Therefore, I DO NOT RECOMMEND this school, especially if you're going to middle school. -A current student

The staff are incredibly disrespectful and not trained well. Almost all the kids that enroll there are rude and bad. This school does not care about the kids education, AT ALL. Please don't take your kid/kids here. My kid that has gone there and came home complaining everyday about the staff and how the kids are disrespectful and not raised well. Do not bring your kids here, disgusting school.

While this school may be FAIR at best for K-3 grades anything over the 4th grade leaves your children and parents bound failure. The small school setting we absolutely loved however, the administration is unorganized and a decent portion of the teaching staff does not have the best of the child's interest in mind. After many years at SSMCS it has become apparent that all this school cares about is state money from programs. The level of incompetence and unprofessionalism from the administration and teaching staff is absolutely appalling. The failure to complete daily tasks for our child, follow through scheduled meetings with teachers and members of administration and upholding IEP standards for them has been almost non-existent. It has been such a disappointment to see the school get resources from the state and federal government for these childrens IEP and have no accountability to the children or their parents. Be weary with enrolling your children here their education can be at great risk.

This school is horribly run I dont recommend it. The office staff is extremely rude lack of urgency at the front office to do a job they get paid to do. Like at least pretend to like your job and greet parents with respect. Their is nothing Montessori in this administration. Major flaws The turn around with the teachers is a revolving door in which many seem to be burnt out and fustrated. So glad we left this school. If your looking for a charter school their are others that offer a much better environment with a real focus for kids to succeed.

This school is terribly in catching up or reacting to other public schools actions. Although charter schools run their own system but still generally follow the CCSD schedule. This school follows on CCSD all holidays or school breaks for sure, and add on top of their own (sadly) but not reopening or commitments as CCSD or other charter school. This school is so far behind on reaction to the public emergency and the recovery of it. The worse part: this year after all public had reopened after lock down due to Covid, this school remains online learning and only offers pathetic 2-hours on Wednesday for face to face school time. There is a reason why elementary school students have to go back to school due to social is a big part of their learning. This school missed this part big time, and I cannot image how can I feel comfortable to keep my child there for the terrible education decision made my the administrative staff. I like the teachers, unfortunately, they dont make administrative decision. The board and the administrative staff are inefficient, I will not recommend this school to at all.

Leadership begins at the top and the current principal lacks people management skills and seems disinterested in open and honest communication among the staff / teachers / parents. This will hold the school back in the long term.

Postive. My children teachers have always been the best they can be. I have enjoyed friendships with them as the years have progressed. Our children will stay in this school until the end of middle school as they are getting a well rounded, loving education.

Excelent staff, teachers really care about every kid ,is not only academic education what kids learn here,is preparation for life,strong sense of community, PTO does an amazing job, the academic level at any grade is ahead compared with public school,and that without and excessive pressure,kids learn at their own pace.

We have been at this school, with 2 children for many years now, and love the small, nurturing environment. The new playground is really nice and is built for kids and adults of all ages. Middle school families will appreciate the minimal homework given, when they compare to the nightmare homework that the traditional middle schools are giving ( and there is almost no correlation between the amount of homework given, and they amount a child learns.)

The Montessori philosophy emphasizes family time and balance, as a result the kids only getting meaningful homework, when necessary to further their knowledge of something. Homework is minimal here.

I am thrilled with my kids' experience at this school. I am a strong believer in the Montessori Method and was so pleased to find a charter that offered this environment to a broader audience than could be reached with a private school. Being a charter school, they are required to incorporate common core curriculum and uphold performance standards for the students but this happens within the Montessori structure. This makes them a unique hybrid of Montessori and traditional philosophies. Since Montessori historically only goes through 8th grade, this exposure will make the inevitable transition to more traditional classrooms easier for the students. As is part of the Montessori philosophy, there is a strong focus on the community of the school. The families are very involved and the PTO has a strong presence on campus. The staff and teachers are incredibly caring and supportive of the students. Being of smaller size, the entire school has a personal and family feel as opposed to the more institutional larger public schools.

Our family has been at this school for five years and we've gotten the opportunity to see it grow and flourish. As with all charter schools, hiccups are expected, and Silver Sands is no different. That said, the environment for learning is optimal and we have been fortunate to have been exposed to some extraordinary teachers and faculty during our time. Fortunately, our children are rather advanced and the Montessori method allows them to grow and go without limits. There is a true sense of community here, and kindness and mentoring are encouraged. Of course, individual experiences are what you make of them. Get involved and your children will benefit. In the past two years, the extracurricular activities have blossomed to include several sports and after-school clubs...another indication that this school is putting down permanent roots and laying the foundation for excellence for years to come. Currently, a permanent playground is being added which adds to the recreational and physical offerings of the school. We are very happy with this school and recommend it strongly.

This school is a terrible disappointment. It is loosely based on Montessori principles, though very few teachers are actually trained. I believe the others have taken "online training". The Montessori philosophy is completely abandoned by Middle School. It lacks basic materials across the board, and teachers seem overwhelmed and incapable of teaching 3 grade levels in one class. As stated in another review, almost all teachers are gone this year. Rules and regulations change year by year, as does the principal. I believe there is no principal currently, however, considering that the "administrative team" runs the school, and the principal is "just for show" this seems fairly irrelevant. The administration in lacking competency and seems to be "running the school into the ground". I am surprised that this school has not been shut down.

My children have made great friends at this school. The school does not have good communication with the parents. For instance, last year they had water damage and moved half the school to another location on a long term basis. This year they did not tell the parents that the middle school would be located elsewhere and I went to the wrong location to pick up my child. They have not updated records from the emergency cards they collected at the beginning of the school year. When I get the rare communication, it's to my old email address that was on file from last year. I give it three stars for the parents and kids. The teachers and principal need to get the emergency card info put into their system -it's October. I heard a communication went out to some people yesterday - I haven't received it. When I emailed the office at the beginning of the year asking for better communication this year and giving my proper info, I got nothing back. No communication.
