This is my sons third year at Discovery. There were a lot of changes last year with the new director. The changes were needed and it was the reason I kept my son there. This year my son really loves his teacher. The staff are professionals and the school has the perfect environment for my son.

They want kids in school at 5 but don't care if your kid can read at a 3rd grade level if they won't shut up and be docile all day.

My kids and I are new to this school (Sandhill Campus) and we absolutely love it so far! From the teachers, staff, and admin, we are very grateful to have come across this school. It is an intimate, family-style campus, and we feel how much everyone cares for the kids. Everyone is always watching out for one another, and my kids love being there.

This school truly feels like a community. The schools leadership is supportive and consistently makes decisions based on what is best for students and families. In a smaller school setting, teachers have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with students and their families and provide that extra level of care and attention. There is a genuine sense of pride, love, and dedication throughout the school, and you can feel how much the staff cares about helping every student succeed.

It's small campus, the Teachers and staff know the children and their parents. Love the school!

My son started school here this year. The location, the teachers, and the school's interior and exterior are all excellent. We can drop our children off safely in the morning and pick them up in the same orderly fashion there is no confusion or uncertainty, and I am truly very pleased. Most importantly, my son goes to school happily and eagerly; that alone shows us just how good the school is.

I worked here for several years and through the new admin change. Past staff was great, but half of them are gone now, staff that was there was forced to sign NDAs in their contracts and turn over their curriculum which is pretty scummy, and last year there was a $0 budget for all electives and teachers. The administration is very clique-y. If they don't like you, they push you out through unprofessional communication and no support. Not to mention the fact that all of their administration isn't qualified for the jobs they have a well as that some of the weird job titles they have are made up.
Many teachers have complained of the toxic work environment the admin has created through rewarding tattle-tales. If you disagree with anything admin says, you better keep it to yourself; otherwise, they deem it as you being "not a team player." Also, admin will flat-out lie about situations that need to be talked about for safety reasons.
Last year, the cops were called several times for a student who was trying to harm others. One of the calls was made by a student because they "knew admin wouldn't do anything" when another student threatened them, saying that they were bringing a knife to school and showed other students the knife. Another student made a shooting threat towards the school in general. They were punished (I don't remember if it was the same incident) by having their parent come to school for in-house suspension, and the parent proceeded to bully the students and argue with teachers, but they proceeded to still come to school with her student.
The PTO has gotten no support either, the poor parents are having no time or budget to throw the yearly events, so everyone has to scramble at the last minute. Management is very important to how a school runs and admin has shown that they do not have the skills.
I also want to point out that this is a technology heavy school. Teachers are pushed to have their students on laptops the majority of the school day (not the teacher's choice) even though studies show that is the least effective way to learn as well as that programs like i-Ready and ST Math are selling your child's data. If you have a low support kid with ADHD or autism, they'll be fine here, but anything more, take them to a school with resources and money.
No flack to the teachers or other staff (the counselors work especially hard with the kids), but the overall negative environment that the office creates seeps into everything else.

University of Phoenix made this director here. That should tell you enough. The AI using director is outlandishly destroying the fabric of this school. The number of insecure incidents has grown wildly out of control due to their inability to manage a school. Charter authority needs to pull all funding and close asap.

this school is terrible and seems to get worst with each pasting year. Their safety and security on the campus is non existing. they have no lunch room or mpr room. no art room, music room or library room on their campus. The kids eat outside in the heat. The specials have to be don't inside of the kids classroom with their main teacher. Their communication is trash, and have no idea about their own policies and procedures. I wouldn't recommend this school to my worst enemy. Oh and they travel off campus to the neighboring park for have PE. F rating is what they deserve.
PS. I tried to give the school 0 Stars but wouldn't let me.

This is "school" is TERRIBLE!!! I would not recommend, almost all teachers are awfully rude (other than the art teacher <333), and all the homework is digital. The online homework takes more time than the average paper homework and does not help students at all. Not to mention, these teachers do NOTHING about the constant bullying. Me and my friends have been bullied several times, I do NOT recommend this school. Parents, do your research before sending your child to this dump.

Not professional period. This school should be closed down. They ask for money/fund raising/donations a lot! You would think that staff would know how to get grants for the school. Dont walk..Run! This school only caters to kids with disabilities and doing damage control with kids that cause trouble. They dont prepare the rest for the real world and they dont have programs to challenge kids that are ahead of the curve.
Posted: August 12, 2019
There are nearly always kids waiting to see the principal in the office when I stop by unannounced.
Posted: August 12, 2019
I would give this school zero stars. A lot has to do with administration. My son isnt being challenged, and only 28% of kids are meeting the standards for math. Close this underperforming school in the worst state school education program in the nation. Charter schools are overrated. Do your homework parents!!

This is school is absolutely amazing. I am so happy I was able to get my son into this school. From my research the administrators did the impossible this year. In their first year of taking over the school they brought the star rating up from a 2 star school to a 4 star elementary and a 5 star middle school. Mr Haynal is truly amazing and this is only the beginning of his improvements. Im sure he has even more plans to help this school continue to thrive.
Posted: September 27, 2018
All of the students homework is personalized to exactly what they need help on. Their online program is the perfect balance between screen time and one to one instruction from their teachers.
Posted: September 27, 2018
The teachers at this school our absolutely amazing! This year my son has Mrs. Wilbourne and Mrs. Weeks and they are phenomenal. They take every situation very seriously and deal with it on a personal basis. My son loves coming to school now and learning.
Posted: September 27, 2018
Posted: September 27, 2018
This year they have a new special education teacher and she is amazing. Immediately my son's IEP was being fulfilled. His time he gets with extra helps being actually being beneficial to his learning and he's starting to thrive.
Posted: September 27, 2018
I personally have not dealt with any bullying this year but from speaking his teachers and Dr. Nohara I feel very secure that if anything were to ever happen it would be handled appropriately.
Posted: August 2, 2018
The administration is young and have few people skills. They don't know how to effectively communicate with parents and are lacking in conflict resolution skills.
Posted: August 2, 2018
Had a horrific time just getting an IEP. Once we had one, they didn't follow it. I was the only person with a copy of the IEP at the IEP meethings!
Posted: August 2, 2018
There are ZERO reports of bullying, which we all know is a lie, so they're covering up the problem they do have rather than actually addressing it because they think it will make them look bad if they actually report it.
Posted: August 2, 2018
The worst school experience of my life. The administration is confrontational and inept at their jobs. They are simply spread too thin and/or are too new to education to be effective. The school is suffering from funding issues due to a mass exodus of students after the new admins took over and began running the school into the ground. The school only has 1 more year to go from a 2 star to a 4 star school. Something that even the administration admits is impossible. At that the Nevada State Charter School Authority will terminate their charter (2020).
Posted: August 2, 2018
Homework was done through a series of worksheets, but mostly online courses which seemed repetitive and covered work that the student already had a mastery of. In other words, busy work. Once a teacher complained that a homework assignment wasn't turned in and I personally did the assignment with the student and saw that it went into their homework folder. The teacher apologized, but it does not instill confidence when your student is being reprimanded for doing their homework because the teacher made a mistake.
Posted: August 2, 2018
They are the lowest paid teachers in the county. Most are first or second year teachers or they simply couldn't get hired on at CCSD.
Posted: August 2, 2018
The school seems lacking in integrity for itself, so it's difficult for them to impart that onto their students.
Posted: July 11, 2018
There has actually been more bullying since Haynal and Nohara arrived! Not only that, Nohara bullies parents herself. She did it to so many parents that they just left. Probably a good 100 families in just 2017 alone! ...preferring not to deal with her ridiculous and unprofessional behavior. She projects, she is totally unaccountable for herself or her teachers actions, she is not caring to the children, she steamrolls children, she uses psychological tactics to try to force her way, rather than behave like a reasonable adult... it's the strangest thing ever in a school setting.
Posted: July 11, 2018
There has been more bullying at this school in one year than all the previous years before. How do I know this? Because the culture of the school prior to Haynal and Nohara was a very strong and family bonded school. Parents knew other parents, cared about all the kids, participated in school events, knew almost every child's name. The school pushed the parents out with their own bullying behavior... simple concerns were completely disregarded and since charter schools are not ccsd, there is absolutely no recourse. Just call the charter authority and ask them what kinds of things they have control over with schools.
Posted: July 11, 2018
0, this is the worst school ever to exist now that Haynal and Nohara run it. Run as far as possible. Concerns will never be addressed. They will steamroll right over you. Even if the concern is a safety concern... If you care about your kid, avoid this place! ccsd schools have more resources and better behavior.

Awful , this school administration looks at your child only as a number they have no consideration for the well-being and health of the students or the school !
The administration kept the parents in the dark with absolutely no communication of illnesses bullying and the child's needs

My child has ADHD and when I discussed certain changes that were happening they dismissed and completely ignored my concerns.
Posted: May 21, 2018
They are not proactive and also allow things to be brushed under the rug yet implement harsh punishments for normal behavior.
Posted: May 21, 2018
I was completely disappointed in this school leadership and also communication. I drive 30 miles each way for a year. And it was the worst decision I made for myself and my son.
Posted: May 21, 2018
There is very little communication. There were no homework assignments sent home or paperwork for parents to know what was expected for the children.

For 2 yrs we were at a well-known public Elementary School here in Summerlin... that had a 10/10--Blue Ribbon ranking. Our kids were bullied there, the Admin were beyond difficult and rude, and the teachers were mean. We came to Discovery with our kids being scared of school (us too). The Discovery staff, teachers, students (and even parents) welcomed us with open arms and a very safe and thriving environment.
All of the teachers worked 1 on 1 with each of our children and have helped each one feel safe at school again which is immeasurable.
Here are some highlights:
***If you are interested in Special Needs reviews....1 of our children has severe adhd, and another has Aspergers. All of the teachers have been kind, easy to work with and have been determined to help them thrive. It has been an incredible thing to witness!
*Volunteering has been fun and easy to arrange.
*Teachers are fun, loving and go above and beyond to reach each student.
*Front desk...Ms. Kristen and Ms. Story are always helpful, supportive and organized.
*The teachers and administration are easy to work with through any situation/questions that arise (not the case in other public schools here).
*The new Principle, Mrs. Kettleson, is kind, easy to talk to and knows each student! She is implementing many new and exciting things.
*The students are safe, kind and diverse. There is no bullying here because the class sizes are small and the teachers know all of the students.
*The school nurse, Miss Debbie, is so loving and helpful to the students when they are sick or when the Kindergarteners are homesick.
*There are optional, weekly meetings that keep families involved should you want.
*Kids have an opportunity to learn ukelele, violin, ballroom dance and band.
*Coach Johnny is an incredible coach from CA. His skill level is high and he teaches each child self-confidence, life lessons and responsibility through sports.
*Many after school programs-- Golf, soccer, basketball, Journalism, engineering, cheerleading, volleyball, kickball, Girl Scouts, T-ball and a Kindness-Service club.
*No school on Fri has brought our family closer together (they start school earlier).
Overall, our children have thrived more in 2 semesters at Discovery, than they did at the 10/10 public school here. We will always be grateful for the teachers, families and administration at this school!

The administration and staff was so caring and supportive from day one which really made my child feel so welcome. I love how they encourage parents to get involved both inside and outside of the classroom. The weekly parents meeting really keep you informed of what is going on at the school and you are encouraged to bring up any concerns or suggestions you may have to make the educational experience even better. I highly recommend this school!

My son is enrolled at this school for kindergarten and the program is amazing. The teacher is fun and makes learning interesting. He has retained a vast amount of information without even realizing he is learning this year. Additionally, the staff is informative and easy to work with, I always receive prompt and appropriate responses to emails and phone calls and the parent involvement is encouraged to a level I am comfortable with. This school is taking new learning concepts and applying them for a family style, group format and hands on learning experience which makes learning a blessing, not a curse.
