I hate leaving bad reviews because I never want it to feel like I have a vendetta. That is not my intention. I am writing this in the hope that the school reflects on the disconnect between the values it teaches and how those values are sometimes demonstrated. As a Jewish school, I would hope that empathy, compassion, personal responsibility, and dignity are not only taught to students but also modeled by the adults.

Our first year was difficult. We were paying a substantial amount for private school, yet I often felt uncomfortable from the beginning. My son's teacher frequently shared personal struggles involving her own son with other parents, and I couldn't help feeling that this affected her ability to be fully present for my son. The online portal was also challenging, making an already difficult transition even harder.

The second year was better. My son found his place, made friends, and developed a love for robotics. There was one bullying situation, but because my husband was very sick, we chose not to pursue it.

Then my husband passed away.

What hurt most was the lack of outreach or empathy from the school during such a devastating time. I also felt my son was treated unfairly by the vice principal. There were situations where rules seemed inconsistently applied. For example, my son was told that if he returned a missing tool, he would not be punished. He did as instructed, only to later face consequences anyway. This was confusing and frustrating for him. And what after was angry messages and calls. Disregarding my husbands passing and constant bullying him on a daily biases when passing him in the hallway. What torture!

That was the last straw.

My son is now in a private online school because the experience became too traumatic. Children need more than academics, they need to feel safe, supported, understood, and cared for especially after losing a parent. Especially at a Jewish school.

I did appreciate the DECA program, the excellent security, friendly faces and the friendships my son made. I don't write this out of anger or spite. I hope the school will reflect on whether the values it teaches are truly being modeled by the adults who represent it.

My son is now on a new path, and I am hopeful for his future. With good grades, homeschooling, tutoring, and a lot of love, I am working toward getting him into a charter school next year.

Wish us luck!

We have had experience with this school for the past 8 years for 3 children. We love Adelson. Some changes have occurred over the years and they are always moving in a positive direction. We love the high safety standards, beautiful campus, warm environment, high level of academic rigor and all around friendly, loving feel of the community.

My review is based on my experience with enrollment. It was extremely difficult to receive a call back in regards to trying to enroll both my children. It is a very stressful not knowing where you child will be attending when it is a week before school starts. It was a real challenge getting a call back after many attempts reaching out. I can swear not only you have to pay TOP $, you also have to chase them when something needs done. In my opinion not enough resources for communications, and closing out loose ends. I am not the only one that was very worried about placement but most of my friends said the same thing. This school has only one person in charge of enrollment which is a real shocker, since there is 900 students that attend this school.

The Adelson Educational Campus is simply an amazing Jewish day school. From as early as pre-first students are involved in charity, community activities, and Israel proud events. From that early age, Adelson students are also taught the importance of education along side technology. Our campus is even equipped with an amazing tech room open to all students. Along side technology, the arts are also especially celebrated. Art, tech theater, and theater are all examples of the amazing arts courses offered. While coronavirus has definitely introduced many obstacles to our every day routine at school, the Adelson Educational Campus has come up with innovative ways to ensure its communities safety. Temperatures being taken, desks separated and sanitized, and having air purifiers installed, are some examples of the precautions being taken. Our faculty has learned to surpass the new limitations, ensuring everyone’s happiness and safety. Overall, the Adelson Educational Campus is a dream of a school.

To be honest, I would have disagreed 4 years ago. Now, it seems all the bad teachers were phased out each year, replaced with Phd's and Master degree teachers. Have to hand it to the Adelson's they demand the very best.

Posted: September 4, 2019

I look at the kids who graduate and every single kids is impressive. When I first enrolled my kids I though Adelson was a rich kid only school. In reality, it's a respectful, kind, smart, responsible kids only school. I love the mandatory drug testing for all high school students and teachers. Administrators seem to jump on every issue before it gets out of control.

The Lower Principal brought in 3 years ago completely turned everything around. She is from Israel and everyone freaked out thinking the school would turn super religious, but it didn't and the school just got better every year. This principal is so good they promoted her as principal of the entire school. There is a new head of school who is from Yale and greets us every morning at the front gate. He seems great!

Posted: September 4, 2019

Not sure as this doesn't;t apply to my children

Posted: September 4, 2019

Four years ago the bullying in this school was ridiculous. The head of school rewrote or simply wrote a bullying policy and I have noticed suspensions and parent no longer complain as much or at all about bullying. Cyber bullying seems to be everywhere.

Posted: September 4, 2019

My children have been enrolled for the past 8 years and the school has taken major steps to right the ship. I have noticed every small change. I read the weekly newsletters, I go to the teacher meetings and I donate to the charities and I can honestly say this school is a diamond in the rough. Every major private school has issues with drugs, bullying, sex, helicopter parents, poor education and I think Adelson used to have problems with all of them. Over the past 4 years, the experience has improved dramatically. I'm so happy I stayed with the school and my children have received the benefits: great education, safe environment (safest in LV), great teachers, great opportunities for college scholarships. My child is in line to receive major scholarships thanks to the school counselor.

My children are thriving at this school. The small class size and individualized attention is impressive as the teachers and administration gets to know each kid's strengths and weaknesses very well. I have nothing but positive things to say about the academic environment and happy to be part of the Adelson Community.

This is one of those special schools that due to it's size, the students received individualized attention by highly qualified teachers. It's a beautiful facility with the very best of everything. The security is top notch. The drug free program with mandatory drug testing is only found here and it makes a huge difference. The kids are really good, smart, responsible future leaders who have an advantage going through a system that encourages their strengths and mentors them from toddlers to graduates. Stanford, Harvard, Duke, Princeton, USC, UCLA, NYU... and with merit scholarships, so we love the professional college counselor who knows each student thoroughly. Love the jewish values, without religion. Love the teachers. Love the connections my son is making and the adult he is becoming.

My daughter has been at Adelson for nearly 7 years and our experience has been exceptional. It is highly focused on learning and social skills and is very nurturing. I am sure certain parents expect the school to do everything for the child, but it is joint responsibility. They do deliver results and they have one of the top businessman in Las Vegas [Sheldon] actively involved in the school. It will continue to work through certain gaps that it has in terms of academics with the top 2-3 schools in the Vegas Valley in due course.

Posted: April 6, 2017

This school could have been great. Our son has been a student at Adelson since he was 3 years old. The preschool was an amazing experience....1st and 2nd grade, not so much. The new administration has no idea what they are doing or how to handle any negative feedback. Their bullying policy isn't even close to being followed and when you confront them on it, they blow you off. For $18,000 / year there are many other options for kids. We have seen many, many families flee this school over the last 2 years and now we are one of them. Run, don't walk from this school.

Posted: April 6, 2017

They have a great "written policy", but that's all it is, words. They DO NOT do anything to deter or deal with any type of bullying. They act as if it's impossible to be going on in their school. My son asks everyday when school is over..He's tired of having to deal with the ineptitude of administration in dealing with any sort of issue. His class has 15 kids, so it's not like he's got a lot of choices of kids to play with.

Posted: April 6, 2017

I have no experience with this statement.

Posted: April 6, 2017

The old leadership was great. They cared about the kids, they cared about the teachers and they cared about issues with the kids. The old leadership, either retired or was let go to bring in a new "leader" that supposedly had experience in turning schools around. The head of the school is completely unknown to 99% of the parents and the kids. She has zero daily interaction with the school...the old head of the school was always involved with the day to day operation and getting to know the families. Many other parents state this as being one of the top reasons they are not returning next year.

Posted: April 6, 2017

Highly disagree with this statement. They do an ok job on the Jewish side of things, but fail miserably when it comes to working with the interpersonal skills and dynamics of the kids. As stated before they do nothing to curb the kids from hitting or bullying. And it's even worse if it involves a teacher's child.

Posted: April 6, 2017

This is the luck of the draw type of situation. From one year to the next great teachers leave or don't have their contracts renewed. In the middle of the year, teachers leave and the class suffers. We have witnessed this 2 or 3 times...There are good caring teachers, but they may not be back from year to year

Posted: April 6, 2017

The level of homework for my son has been fine..

Posted: October 7, 2016

In our experiences, there were cliques on the playground. Jewish values were taught well, but still many gaps were left and opportunities for bullying.

Posted: October 7, 2016

In our experience, there were many children with learning differences at the school. This was at the detriment of students who came prepared and without problems.

Posted: October 7, 2016

The biggest weakness is lack of leadership and tired leaders. Everything is delegated to the level lower. Teachers end up inheriting it all and holding the bag. Sadly.

Posted: October 7, 2016

Warm and fuzziness seems based upon favoritism. There are cliques on the play ground and some bullying. The school does a good job teaching Jewish values and support for Israel.

Posted: October 7, 2016

Some good teachers but also there are lots of weak ones. There is lots of overturn.

Posted: October 7, 2016

Funny how the ratings seem to range between 1 star and 5 stars. We had a poor educational experience at Adelson. The community is nice especially if you are Jewish. Lots of opportunities for parents to come in and connect with other families. But, education is sub-par for a private school. Two years ago the headmaster was chased out mid-year after a large group of parents got concerned about lackluster and inconsistent education and found out that the school was operating WITHOUT a curriculum! A new curriculum was quickly drafted up and posted but it was a big shock for teachers to have to adhere to a set plan and some got disgruntled. In the transition, a big questionmark was left about going forward. Half the community wanted stronger academics and the other half wanted education to be slow and warm and fuzzy. There have been a few new heads since, but from what we hear the academic identity crisis keeps continuing. The school seems to be spending a lot of time (still!!) on curriculum mapping, i.e. making sure teachings between the grades build upon one another. I mean, these things should be in place from day 1, not after decades of being a school.... Programs in reading and math still seem to be changing year to year depending on the new headmasters' vision. At least the school did away with common core math which imo was a good move. I will further say the facilities are beautiful, there is solid security, the the cafeteria is impressive, the theater is wonderful, the swimming pool is magnificent, the library is beautiful, lots of tech at school. The Adelson family has created extraordinary place through big donations. But academics are still not there. When parents question mediocre academics, they are given nice sounding answers about "the whole child" or other Wizard of Oz curtain answers to cover up the lack of academic vision. Some grades have like 18 students (the entire grade!). Also, check where the high school kids are accepted (hint: nowhere great). All in all, the school has a good religious identity but no clear academic philosophy or strong academics. The tuition is really too high to be receiving a mediocre education. We had a hard time letting go because of the community, but now wish we would have taken the plunge sooner. It would have saved a lot of catching up.

Lower school is a complete disaster! New leadership is not qualified to lead and does not have advanced degrees and the qualified teachers were not given contracts. The new head coming is not qualified either. The school is not transparent as to what is happening and sugarcoat teachers and administrators degrees and experience. The curriculum is non existent.

I have 2 boys at the school, 1 in 5th grade who has been there since preschool and 1 in preschool. Here are pros and cons from my perspective: Pros: 1) security. In today's world, this is of utmost importance. There is a constant security presence, limited entrances due to gated campus, cameras, and multiple security measures. I drop my boys off and I have great peace of mind that they are safe.
2) teachers. We have been blessed with some of the most wonderful teachers. They see the whole child and go to great lengths to have my child reach their greatest potential. Each year I'm sad for my older son to graduate his class, only to be equally impressed with his new teacher. My son has been given enrichment packages and advanced opportunities to meet his specific goals. I'm beyond impressed with how this school developed and nurtured his love of learning and of school. 3) well rounded. The school has it all- academics, sports, clubs, electives, advanced technology, languages, arts... There is no need for me as a mom to run him all over town for additional experiences. Adelson has it all either during the school day or after. 4) parent involvement. If I have a question or concern, the teacher is very accessible and responsive. I can usually have my answer same day. Admin does require an appointment but also easy to do.
5) academics. I do notice that when the neighborhood kids (public school) come over, that they are considerably behind, especially in regard to spelling and math. They do 'core math' and gratefully Adelson does not. 6) conveniences- they provide all meals and snacks. Also, easy to contact secretary and have child waiting if, for example, mid day doctor appointment. They have early and after care. There is a drop off and pick up from car. 7) preschool is amazing. I've never had a single issue here. Director seems to run a tight ship and the teachers are just wonderful.
Cons: 1) drama. In all these years I can't figure out if it's the parents, the staff, or the kids, but there is always drama. My boys have been unaffected by it but I've certainly seen some pockets or at times entire grades be plagued with drama. Some years its staff turnover, sometimes it's bullying, others it's idle gossip. 2) discipline. Kids get away with too many behaviors without clear consequences. Repeat offenders of bullying still there. 3) slow to change.

Posted: February 2, 2016

I love the teachers, my son loves all his teachers and I feel very secure with my 2 years olds teachers. I started getting updates in a tadpoles app with personalized pictures and daily activities.

Posted: February 2, 2016

I hear parents want more and I agree, my 5th grade son averages 1-2 hours a night.

Posted: February 2, 2016

It appears the new head of school was tasked to fix a young school's growing pains with experience and proven results. So far everything I've seen, I'm a believer. In the past kids have always gotten away with everything with no policies to be found. The new head has already made a difference.

Posted: November 8, 2015

The lower school head and the kindergarten teacher that used to work at a nearby private school are terrible. They alone will destroy this school. I will would be up all night if I had to explain all the reasons why. Not sure who is running the lower school? The previous kindergarten teacher with no business being a head or the kindergarten teacher who came in last year and started calling the shots. If they don't leave, my family will.

Posted: October 21, 2015

I am so glad I went on here! I've been hearing lots of rumbling in the hallways of the lower school. A lot of unhappy teachers and parents. I've berm on the fence on whether or not I want to keep my kids here. It's hard because I've been part of this community for a long time and once looked at it as a family. With the blink of an eye, it seems like that has all been taken away. The curriculum has taken a dive. It seems like there are drastic changes in the academics yearly. While, yes, there are a lot of not so great teachers, there are a few left over who are. Although, I'm not sure it's worth spending this much money for the chance that it 3rd grade teachers will stay the same because they're good teachers left. I do have a child in preschool, but won't be sending her to lower school.I've only been hearing bad things about the new head of lower school. I also have child in middle school and that seems much more organized and teachers seem more unified. However, none of it seems to be worth my money. I have a lot of friends who moved to other private schools and are much happier. Since the since of community and family feel has left the school, along with sincerity and good education, there's no since in staying.

Posted: October 21, 2015

Like I said before, there are very few amazing teachers left. Almost all the teachers brought on by the new head have been let go from a nearby private school or have no experience. So, we take the teachers once rejected and ones who are green.

We have some good kids at the school and I think the teachers treat my kids fairly.

Posted: October 20, 2015

I really hope other parents use this website to express their honest opinion about this school whether positive or negative. I have not come across many happy parents at this school. My son has been at this school for a while, we wanted a good Jewish education and this was the only school that seemed to offer what we wanted. Our experience was ok until last year. The principal was let go… No idea why but anyway life went on. Now they have a lower school principal who has no idea what she is doing. She has no experience as a principal and seems to be leading the school to disaster. The staff she is hiring seems to be inexperienced and fresh out of college. Many of the better teachers left which was very disappointing because she made no effort to keep them. That whole fiasco was confusing in itself and I know there were many unhappy parents. I want to know what is going on with this place. I am aware other parents are feeling the same way. If things do not improve soon I will be pulling my son out. It is costing a lot of money, and definitely not worth it. I am so disappointed.

Posted: October 3, 2015

They understand that homework is an extension of what's been learned in the classroom and that it's not meant to punish or crest stress and anxiety in kids that will later need meds to function

Posted: October 3, 2015

Moved my kids from another private school and am certainly happy I did! Have a first and second grader and I'm so impressed with the level of academics and the projects they're working on in the short amount of time they're at Adelson School. Teachers go way above and beyond to make sure my kids are challenged. New first grade teacher is adored by the students. Communication from teachers on new Edsby program has been fantastic...updates everyday. Love Saxon math program and the great STEM learning. Principal Miss Shelly made my kids and I feel welcomed from the first day and my kids love when she visits to read or do a lesson with them. Always responds promptly to emails and calls and even sends pictures of my kids to me when they're doing something extra special in a particular class. Great move for us!

Posted: October 3, 2015

Based on discussions we have with our children and the character of their friends. The school has character building lessons and strong role models.

Posted: September 29, 2015

This school frightens me. I decided not to send my child back because I am not sure how much longer this school will last. The lower school is a disaster! They lost a lot of seasoned teachers and replaced them with inexperienced, clueless teachers. Don't be fooled by small classes as a selling point. The class sizes are small BECAUSE THEY CANNOT FILL THEM! What happened you ask? Why would all those teachers and students leave? Simple. The new lower school head. It's like the blind leading the blind. She is judgmental, emotional, and defensive. She took over in December, and that's when everyone started to jump ship, both parents and teachers. I have attempted to have meetings with her, and she is never available. She never emails anyone back and shows serious favoritism. She has ZERO experience in leadership because she was a kindergarten teacher first, then she moved into admissions. I am not paying this much money in tuition to send my child to a school with a principal who has no clue, who has hired a bunch of teachers who have no clue. I can get the same education down the street for FREE!

Beautiful campus, but the head of school struck me as unhappy person, antagonistic and with no qualms about contorting her face in disapproval when she disagreed with my views of education, failing to ask me for any clarification--just instant disapproval. While the head of the middle school was more friendly, talking with him was an exercise in patriarchy. I was surprised to learn that he does not have an advanced degree, and that the middle school is trying to raise reading skills and scores, but with no clear plan yet on how to do it. The few teachers I met seemed like earnest people, but perhaps they are hamstrung by the director's lack of experience

Withdrew from this school this week. Lower school is a complete disaster. The principal was fired, teachers from kindergarten fired. New principal moved in from Admissions - inept and in over her head. She doesnt return emails, cant make an appointment with her. The kids are mean stuck up and clicquey even as early as 1st grade. This is the type of "education" you would expect from a turnaround school.

My children attended this school a few years ago. While my two older children thrived, my youngest did not. Unfortunately, we did not notice this until two to three months into the school year and by then it was goodbye tuition dollars (most private schools do not issue tuition refunds). We were aware because he attended Adelson the prior year. Luckily, since my two younger children were in preschool, we were able to make different arrangements (i.e. we were paying for two half day classes and were able to get one child to go full day). In the end, we were able to get our child an IEP. IMO, sending your child here before Pre-K 4YO can be waste if, but if (1) there is wait list (2) money is no object (3) you can teach your child their ABC's and to count to 10, then it is worth applying. Should we have lived in Nevada, we would be wary of the upper school, because Adelson does not have any national merit scholarship candidates.

My school is Adelson Educational campus in Las Vegas NV. I have two children here at the school and they love it. I started my sone in 2nd grade and he is now in middle school and thriving. He was in public school and struggled everyday, but with the compassionate teachers and support staff at Adelson he is doing amazing. My daughter started their in JK and is in first now and loves being there. She also has come so far and every one at the school is wonderful. I would say the entire staff of Adelson is very caring and compassionate. They all love what they do and love to see the children grow. I recommend this school to anyone. I have had and continue to have the best experience here.

I have written several reviews for this school that the administrators keep flagging to have removed. This is not the place to send your student if you want them to have a "great education". I had to move my student because we moved cross town and discovered that she is actually a year or more behind others in her same class. At Adelson she was at the top of her group. How is this possible? Her math skills and basic reading skills are low and I have to come out of pocket now to get her a tutor to catch her up. I'm happy that I discovered this before she got to high school. But now I understand why there is so much teacher turn over there. Save your money -- pay for a tutor and send them to public school. You are going to have to pay for one at some point if you send your student there.

I have children in the Preschool and Lower School at the Adelson Educational Campus. They are eager to go to school in the morning and both are thriving and growing into confident, independent thinkers. In the Lower School, the teachers have been attentive and responsive to my son's need to be challenged academically and they communicate with me frequently and openly. I had a wonderful experience with a teacher, who, upon learning that we were not familiar with the teachers for the following year, set up a meeting for all of us to discuss my son's needs and interests so I would feel comfortable that we would find the best fit for him. That level of individualized attention is only one of the benefits of being part of a warm and forward-thinking community. I feel confident that the teachers know my children well, recognize their strengths, and encourage them to be responsible, inquisitive learners.

Posted: August 27, 2013

The Adelson Educational Campus is a school like no other I've attended. The individualized instruction, the small class sizes, the trust and respect from peers and the amazing teachers who know each student by name is what makes Adelson not only an amazing environment to learn and grow, but a true community. I've been in public school and in other private schools and there is no comparison!

1) Our experience is that students in other schools are learning more. Even nearby public schools (free) are ahead of our children's classes. Some students at Adelson say they are bored because of slow-pace, ease and repetitiveness of curriculum 2) For expensive tuition, the colleges that high school graduates are going to are not impressive. 3) Administration seems comfortable with status quo and resistant to calls for improvement 4) Recent complaints about lower school music or theatrical performances being way too racy and inappropriate. 5) In our opinion, school does not live up to its fine facilities or potential. Some good teachers but administration is not promoting excellence enough. Not surprised that parents move their children to other private and public schools that place high value on advanced learning. Bottom line, do three things: a) compare the colleges that Adelson's graduates go to the colleges that graduates from competing schools go b) compare apples to apples on what Adelson students are studying and what competing grades at other schools are studying. c) Ask families that left Adelson why they left.

Our two girls have attended the Adelson Campus for the past six years, and like fine wine, it's gotten better with time. We started in the preschool and enjoyed not only an overwhelmingly warm and nurturing experience, but also an educational one that I would challenge other private schools in the area to compete against. As we work our way through the lower school, we are noticing a level of teacher attentiveness and professionalism that is leading the kids to strive for continued academic excellence. It is difficult to find a school in the Las Vegas valley that is just as dedicated to academic excellence as it is to maintaining a genuine balance of family-like community. Most importantly, when our kids wake up eager to attend school, to learn from and visit with their friends, and then return home joyfully sharing their day's stories...we create an even happier home.

Adelson is a wonderful school and a loving environment for our children. We love being a part of its community!

I am surprised to see so few reviews for my boys school. So many of our friends express how grateful we are that our kids go to such an exceptional and rare family type school. We have been there for 8 years and every year it gets better and more amazing. The teachers really love my kids! Sure the building looks amazing and the classwork is very challenging but I love seeing my kids getting a real education and LOVE going to school. What else could we ask for to set them up for HAPPY and successful lives.
