This school is great, the teachers offer great support and there are many family involvements, like family nights, activities that requires parent vonlunteers. This chance allows parents to see their child in their day to day life at school. They also have Watch D.O.G.S (Dads of great students) where dad can wear a cape and stay with their child and class for a day and participate with the children. The school has great teachers, (kudos to my fifth grade teacher, she was and still is very inclusive and understanding towards all of us. Plus she loves Pi day, yes the day for the irrational number that never ends) the specials (Music, Art, P.E., Library) teachers were all wonderful, I love the Ober Library so much along with the murals all over the school. It adds a fun hint of creativity all across, ready to inspire students at any second. I learned a lot about the subjects taught, and was able to increase my MAP score drastically after a year of learning than from the start. There are many social events that lifts team spirits and student wellness. The counseler is always there to help solve your problems whether it's between you and another student or just general wellbeing. This school creates a safe and cheerful environment for students to grow up in, it also makes sure that our safety knowledge is up to date to make sure that we stay safe and well. This school includes many drills that will prepare us for emergencies and teaches us when it's time to act serious. The school also provides a variety of support for students with special needs, there is many notable staff members who's entirely focused on those students, ready to answer their needs at any time. Special need students also have their own classrooms that accessible and roomy. Plus the lunch is very nutritious and tasty, and they don't have any common allergy triggers. The school is very clean and tidy, with the teachers and staff also educating the students on how to properly clean up after themselves, this would save a lot of trouble back at home. Ober is very accomodating and also has classes for accelerated individuals called TAGS and GATE, these classes challenge students more so they can further improve their academic knowledge and hand-on experience. This class allows students to train their brains with complex puzzles and problems. It is also very entertaining since students may get the opportunity to build paper roller coasters as a project. Overall I would definitely reccommend Ober.

My daughter has a social disability but is not eligible for an IEP. The administration and her teacher have been very proactive about supporting her this year. They developed a safety plan to address behavioral challenges, and the teacher is great at communicating, whether to use Dojo to ask a question about her day, call to let us know how well she's doing, or just to let us know that she's going to have a substitute so we can prepare our daughter for that change in routine. Our daughter is learning and seems really excited to learn. They have motivating incentives in place for kids to read regularly. Overall, we have been very satisfied.

A child’s mental health or disability is not a priority. Staff members are more concerned about the mask mandate than the affects it is having on most of the young children. If you speak up, the staff takes it out on your child, as they are bullies and are more concerned about the CCSD treasurers than our children.

My child has attended this school since 2nd grade. The school doesn’t protect kids against bullying, and I believe that many of the kids attending are from outside neighborhoods. There are currently 43 kids in my child’s class, and I’ve emailed the principal and Vice principal in reference to bullying. Because of the mandate, teachers have resigned and my daughter’s previous teacher told me she was leaving to homeschool. The majority of the teachers remaining are not ethical, they’re teaching CRT in the name of diversity, indoctrinating, and forcing fear on our kids. My child got in trouble for drinking too much water, as kids are not allowed to lower their masks.

Really disappointed with poor communication skills. They are not builders of a child's well being but rather a group that dictates and integrates the importance of their educational degrees. Should have more communication and understanding of core values and building better human beings.

Teachers with bachelor degrees, teaching licenses, and an education in communication and mental health, still get judged as an under qualified teacher just because they had a typo! Your rating overall on the school is two stars just because you would rather get on the internet and talk about how often the teacher forgot to pass out homework instead of making an effort to help out the teacher. As far as principal changes, the last principal got promoted up to a middle school. That is why she left, not because there was something wrong with the school. And I understand everybody has an opinion but to publicly insult someone and the school itself because a teacher had what I know all of us have from time to time, a typo, is sad. If the district, the principal, and even down to that awesome teacher your child had, that teacher came in and observed the class and than said that they are, by certain, qualified, there is nothing wrong with them, but you. Teachers spend an average of $500 of their own money on these kids each year. Without volunteers, teachers spend around 12 hours at the school, that's not including how much more time they spend on the weekends, grading papers, and reading up on ways to better your child's education. And besides all that they do, they get a result of unhappy, ungrateful parents getting up on the internet and talking about how insufficient they still are in their eyes. If you don't like the way something is, than do what you can to help the situation, and if you are unable to help than keep your opinions off of the internet. A school should not be given a bad rating just because the parent thinks that their child's teacher is insufficient. If the child likes the teacher and most importantly the child is growing academically, than why try to destroy the one that is trying to help your child?

Ober Elementary is not a school that lives up to its zoning reputation. We had an amazing teacher in kindergarten, but that is not the case in first grade. We were very disappointed given that the teacher misspelt announcements on the teacher-parent portal, missed giving out homework numerous times. We spoke with the principal, but nothing was done, they were not listening to us at all, given the fact that in the 2 years we were at Ober we went through 3 principal changes. None of them stay long er than a year which makes you wonder what is wrong with the school. We came to the principal with all the issues we had, addressed all concerns and all we were told is " I am not moving kids from one classroom to another" refusing to accept the issues with the teacher. We are moving next year to a better school!

We were so happy to send our daughter to this school for Kindergarten because of the great ratings but shortly after the school year began we realized this wasn't nearly the school we hoped it would be. Our daughter's Kindergarten teacher cares very little about her students that don't perform at the top levels. She shows favoritism openly in front of the children and throws attitude to parents who ask questions and need help. We are very disappointed in this school and the administration and cannot recommend it to anyone.

We have been an Ober family for quite some time. Every year we feel a little more unwelcome and uncared for. Scott Ober-AMAZING. Current administration- ladder-climbing and completely fake. Do not be fooled-this admin could care less about you and your child. They care only about test scores, their own careers and their agendas. We only stay because of the friendships our kids have made. Otherwise, we would be OUT!!!!!

My daughter is in her 4th year at Ober and we love it. The teachers have all been wonderful and my daughter is thriving. They want and appreciate parent involvement. As a parent I feel very welcome here. We will be here through 5th grade.

After reading reviews on this school, I was very concerned when I found out that my children would be attending Ober. My experience with this school though, is much different than I had originally thought it would be. My three children are doing very well in school. I've had a few concerns about bullying, but the issue seems to have sorted itself out. The children's teachers are wonderful, and the principal, from what I've seen, is very nice and seems to care about the children. I think this is a very good school, and I'm very happy at the progress my kiddos are making.

We are in our second year at Ober (1st grade) and are very pleased with the quality of education our child is receiving. I have had the opportunity to volunteer in the classroom and have felt that the children all exhibit enthusiasm towards learning. There is a huge emphasis on reading and the sight word soldier program. It is so heartwarming when a child hits their reading milestone and is cheered on and encouraged by their entire class. I believe that parental involvement is incredibly important and I do see that there are many parents who feel the same way at Ober.

I would like to start by saying that the front desk receptionist has a really bad attitude everytime someone, enen a student aproaches to the front desk she's like what! What a bad customer service!! I'm also very disappointed by my sons teacher when I ask her how was my son's day? Looks like it bothers her! She looks discontent always defensive... I do not care if other parents dont ask about how their kids day was i will!! I know and totally understand that this two elderly ladies are my senior but you don't like your job quite!!! Some students have already a hard life at home!! You guys don't need to make their life more miserable! You guys are the reason of why many kids don't like to go to school! When you really do what you love you don't have to work a day in your life so obviously you guys aren't on the right track!!

After researching the schools a few years back, Ober had a great rating and great reviews. Now after a few years of my child attending, I am sad I bought a home in this school's zoning. Issues with other parents and children were not addressed by the Principal and Vice Principal (just brushed under the rug). Absolutely NO support for community businesses because of the Principal, yet money is constantly needed for all technology because lack of funds for this school from the district. Also, the PTO is so disorganized and poorly run with little to no support by the Principal and Vice Principal. There is no Room Parent organization, which is sad because there are so many parents that want to be involved on a regular basis. Again, I think this is due to the lack of encouragement by the Principal. The only good is the teachers and unfortunately they have their hands tied most of the time.

I used to hear such wonderful things about this school but unfortunately I believe this school has gone down hill. Many teachers have left that have been at this school for years. Last school year our family had so many problems and we were constantly speaking with the principal and assistant principal, however nothing was ever done about our problems. More often then not my kids were not given the correct time for lunch, supposed to have 20 minutes to eat and sometimes were only given 10. I witnessed this myself when I started coming to lunch. Some of the newer teachers are down right mean and as many have pointed out the principal is only out to make herself look good and only worried about raising tests scores, this has rubbed off on many teachers, with many taking the fun out of learning. If I was in a position to change schools I would. My advice to parents is get involved with your child's teachers. Have a relationship with them and your child so you know what's going on and speak up when things aren't going the way they should be.

Ober has great teachers. Our children have had the types of teachers that kids remember for a lifetime. Unfortunately, most of those tenured teachers turned over in the past two years. That cannot be a coincidence. The newer teachers are still great. The biggest problem is the administration. Teachers seem bullied and the workplace is not acceptable from what I see on the outside looking in. I feel that the admin does not have the children's best interest in mind, only their own careers and the test scores that will help them advance. We had one particular example I feel misled. We were promised something relating to our child's curriculum but as time went on nothing happened. When we approached the admin again she acted like no such discussion ever occurred. On another note, maybe the AP should not be smacking on gum at award ceremonies. We all have nervous habits, but it really reflects poorly when someone that is suppose to be a school leader is not even trying to be discreet while chewing gum in front of 100 parents. It certainly does not set a good example for the kids.

Ober has not been the same since the Ellis/Walz take over. The only thing that matters to the principal is the 5 star rating & the CRT scores. Oh and her personal ladder climbing agenda. If you don't believe me read back through all of the reviews before 2012. They are almost all 5 star. Coincidence? I think not! My child feels threatened frequently by her teacher & the asst principal. Once they deem your child as a slow learner or a problem child they go out of their way to make life miserable for that student. A great deal of really awesome teachers have left that school because they were tired of being ruled by the iron fist. School is suppose to be a place to feel safe & loved but my daughter feels like an outsider & says she wishes she didn't have to go there everyday. If you have the choice pick a different school. This one is not what it use to be.

Ober Elementary School in Las Vegas, NV Great Leadership + Great Teachers/Specials = Great Students I have 2 children presently enrolled and they enjoy all aspects. Day to Day learning is supported by the wonderful staff. F rom the Adminstration team who support students/parents/teachers/guests to those who nurture in classroom specials: Art, Tech, MUSIC!, PE. The powerhour learning, to extra care/preparation. We love our school and the attention given to learning, fun, friendships and growth. A very important time in our young peoples lives. If I could change one thing? Classroom size a tad smaller, and a few more shaded areas for our outside activities. If we could afford more tutoring/or afterschool learning programs: enrichment in math, reading, the arts - wonderful. But they do a great job. PTO is attentive, proactive and involved.

My oldest just finished her Kindergarten year at Ober. I loved Mrs. Watts and couldn't have asked for a better "first" teacher. The principal comes off a little abrasive, but she's not there to make friends. The school was (for the most part) organized, efficient and focused on learning. Things I didn't like included getting a call the week before asking to do placement testing, getting notice the week before school started of the schedule (AM or PM class), and the traffic for drop off. Overall though these are minor compared to all the great things I loved about Ober.

Most of the teachers are wonderful! The PTO board is horrible and uninviting to newcomers. The principal has ruined our school with her power hungry ways and the way she has to control everyone! It is all about her. Many of the teachers are quite tenured and quite good. But if your child isn't perfect the principal and vice principal will make yours and your child's life miserable.

In response to the question "what has happened to Ober?"- The principal is what has happened to Ober. She has single-handedly ruined this school. What was once a wonderful neighborhood school is now a depressing institution where staff members live in fear and are subject to administrative bullying. Parents are being threatened. Our child's education is no longer a priority at this school. The only thing that matters at Ober is the principal and her agenda.

Disappointment with this school over the last year. We had a happy 2nd grader and a wonderful beginning for the Third Grade. There is no support; no willingness to discuss issues objectively and a Principal who looks like a "deer in headlights"! What has happened to Ober?

MMy daughter loves this school, and it seems like the educational standards are very good at this school. However, I don't think I have ever experienced such an unorganized administration in my entire life. The schedule the school gave the parents at the beginning of the school year had wrong dates for conferences (we didn't find out about the change until the day before the new conference schedule), class activities that are on the schedule have been modified without notice (we received an email from the school that they were having a school picnic lunch day and were told to bring food) only to find out when we showed up that our daughter's class wasn't participating. Many parents were there with food to have the picnic, so I know we weren't the only ones who thought it was for the entire school. Many class activities we aren't notified about until the day before, so after school we have to run around town looking for the items last minute. The kids have a folder we were told would contain all correspondence so we check it every night. When we asked why we weren't notified about a particular activity, the teacher told us it was posted in the office. Lots of good that does us.

Obet is the best. My sons love going to school everyday. The teachers are caring and compassionate. Mrs Holt is am amazing second grade teacher and Mrs Colgan is an excellent full day kindergarten teacher. Your child will be more than ready for first grade. The education my children received at this school was beyond my expectations. A school like this is truly a reflection of a great administration and parent involvement.

It is not the school or the teachers or the support staff who have continued to be amazing regardless of the administration. My child has special needs and they personally have been unsupportive and had a lack of compassion and interest. I tried to set up a meeting a month ago to discuss this situation and they have never got back to me. I would still send my children there as mine have gone for 9 years with good results. Not if you have special needs and avoid the PTO or anything where you expect the principal and vice to intereact.

We moved to Las Vegas from Puerto Rico and this is the first time my 10 and 8 year old children go to public school. After conducting research I decided on the Summerlin area and am very happy our rental property happened to be zoned for Ober. The school is great and the teachers are great. My children are very happy with the school and so are we. The teachers are very involved and use the telephone and e-mail to communicate with the parents. Love getting calls from the teachers about something that my kids need help in before it turns into a low grade. It shows that the teachers genuinely care!!!! A++++ school!!!!!
