You get out what you put in. I have had 4 of my kids attend this school. There is a wide variety of classes, activities, clubs, sports available. My kids who took advantage of these opportunities really enjoyed high school. The academics also offered them every opportunity to attend any college they wanted to go to. My kids have all scored very well on the ACT, so the school is doing something right. All 3 of my kids that have graduated or are graduating have been offered academic scholarships. The school isn't going to do the work for you but all of the pieces necessary to be successful are here if you are willing to work hard.

Both of my children went here and took AP classes and were among the first graduating class for AP. With that being said, I feel that this school also has many challenges that an overwhelmed counselor will easily miss if parents are not on top of what’s going on with their kid. Bullying can easily be avoided/demolished if the school had more staff and a designated therapist to help hormonal teens express their feelings. However, it is a great launchpad to what college life will be like and my children had no problem moving on to a large university and finding friends.

Amazing School Would recommend too anyone just a tiny bit too much homework.. Other then that the teachers are amazing, the coach's are very supportive.. There is a little bit of teenage vaping, and cutting class but no bullying or harrasment I would recommend this school too anyone.

Students are rude and disrespectful to each other. Students cheated ALL the time! Students vape in class, cut classes and go into other teachers' classrooms when they're not supposed to be there. The coaches swear at students and disrespect them.

Coronado high school is the worst high school in Henderson Nevada .my child comes home every day telling me that this school is racist . This school DOESN'T know how to treat EVERY student equal . The white privallage at this school is ridiculous and unacceptable . I am extremely disappointed with this school . I am taking action on removing my child from such a stereotypical school .

Very good school. Child is entering 11 grade and has has a very good experience here. The AP Academy is awesome. I have another child that will be entering in as a freshman in 2017-2018. She is excited to be entering this high school. Good students. The teachers could do a little more with helping the students, but in their defense, they have to deal with 25-30 students in every class. My cild has not seen any drugs, "real" fights, and most of the students are smart and like to learn. Of course, it makes a big difference what kind of children your children are hanging around.

Sadly though the school is in a nice area it is filled with drugs, fights, and kids clearly on their way to jail. Though administration tries, they can't get a handle on it. Having to send my child to this school has been one of the most horrible decisions I have made.
Sadly sports are limited to only the chosen few and clubs are limited, so students needing better peers and opportunists are out of luck. Counselors have offered no help or support. Special Education teachers are very helpful, but regular staff is rude and unaccommodating.
The size of the campus and student body makes it unmanageable.

There is a mixture of good teachers and ineffective careless teachers. The English and Math departments seem to have the largest percentage of ineffective teachers I have come across. The biggest issue is the teachers keeping their students grades updated in Parentlink and I can't count how many times I have had to contact a teacher about misplacing an assignment that was turned in, so much disorganization!

If you want your kids to attend a high school that is rampant with several groups of wanna-be gang banger thugs who thrive on starting confrontations, carry weapons (guns) outside of school, jump people, rob people, deal drugs & threaten people inside and outside of campus and at football games, (going by names such as Porkchop, TayTay, Jaybird), that school admin is completely aware of and flat out ignores, then this is the school for your kids!
(Side note: Heroine and other drugs are a scourge among the other group of students from wealthy families.)
The administration does absolutely nothing about these groups or this issue but turn a blind eye as they and their "monitors" sit and watch by the sidelines while these groups of thugs blatantly bully students in the lunch room, hallways and common areas. Apparently instigating fights on campus, spitting on fellow students and stepping up on them and pulling the "race card" as an excuse for their thug behavior and bullying students is perfectly acceptable and allowed. The ONLY time that school admin steps in is after the fact when fists have been thrown! Forget the admin being proactive and stepping in when they see this about to happen and preventing it in the first place by following the school districts Policy 5137. I have never been so disgusted with a school and its administration in my life!

Great School. Teachers involved with students they keep you up to date on grades and performance. Band, Choir, Sports win awards every year. One of the best Public High Schools in Nevada.

I went to Coronado for about 2 months before I left. The first day I walk into my 6 classes every teacher said who are you and what do you want. The teachers are beyond rude and they aren't good ate teacher either. My math teacher did not teach the way she was suppose to be teaching the students. She didn't even ask the students if they needed help or didn't get anything. I got a deans referral from my bio teacher because I walked out of class. And the reason why I walked out was because I asked to go to the bathroom and she said no repeatedly and i said its a emergency and she still said no. In my defense, it's in my right to go to the bathroom when it's a emergency. Off to the side, the students there are so rude everyone acts like their better then everyone else. This school does not deserve a 9 star rating.

I do not recommend Coronado to anybody. This school is terrible and one of the worst decisions I have made in my life to come here. They are unfair in the athletics and give special treatment to coaches kids. I won't go in detail but it's terrible. They come up with any excuse to make. If you're thinking about coming to Coronado... DONT.

I have never been more frustrated with a school department as I am right now with Coronado's Math Department. I hate playing the race card and I would like to hope that in this day and age I wouldn't have to but NO ONE wants to help my African American daughter succeed in the Math program! She goes to tutoring, I see her studying the whole nine yards the teacher does not seem to care about her efforts or her struggles. I took it a step further and spoke to her counselor she was completely uncaring and unwilling to point me in the right direction to help my child! No wonder the education system in Nevada is scored so poorly...The teachers and Administrators DONT CARE! Coronado is supposed to be one of the best schools in Nevada - Is this a joke? Please get some caring knowledgeable, educated teachers and administrators in place to help our children succeed! They are our future after all!

Sports are based on if you are a Mormon and how much money you give coaches in "gifts". Academics are based the same along with giving into ethnic threats to gain wanted needs. Math department is the worse that I have seen and dealt with anywhere. They would rather see failing than passing no extra effort on the teachers side. The counselors have NO regard for students unless connected in the inner circle. If you are willing to have a frustrated student and settle for many disappointments this school will help you meet those goals.

Even though Coronado competes with magnet schools and private schools in the number of National Merit Semifinalists each year, our football team gets more publicity than the 5-10 students who have just scored in the top 1% of all high school students. Zero mention of their names. Newest principle has mentioned he doesn't want other kids to feel inferior.

I've always heard great things about Coronado. Before transferring I heard they were number one in the valley. Coronado supposedly had great teachers, a lot of school spirit, awesome programs, and barely any student conflict. When the school year started I quickly realized how inaccurate everyone was. This school has way too many students, therefore the teaching isn't the best nor the programs. I also quickly realized how arrogant the teachers and the students are. Majority of the people at this school are not welcoming at all and act like they're superior to everyone else. This school does have a ton of school spirit, but that's about it. The school overall is a pretty average school in everything else, even though everyone at Coronado is convinced they're the best. Personally, I recommend sending your child to attend a school in the Summerlin area. Bishop Gorman Roman Catholic School, Faith Lutheran Christian School or either Palo Verde would be better a choice in my opinion. The area is just as nice and I personally think the people at these Summerlin schools are way more likable/nicer than the staff/students at Coronado.

This is the Best public High School in the Henderson area. You will be glad and happy you did right choice sending your kids to this school. Those who give low rating are still sending their kids to this school. So use your judgement and make a wise decision sending your loved one to this awesome school.

High school with the highest drug use in the Las Vegas valley....reading the other reviews I was shocked that this wasn't mentioned. Then I noticed that the school reviews the posts....Get honest Coronado, let parents know what they're about to encounter.

My son attended Coronado beginning his sophmore yr. I read lots of wonderful reviews about this school, the staff &students. My son worked hard to be on the honor roll. During the beginning of his junior year, he was placed in the wrong classes. I thought the counselors & teachers new best but, he had AP classes instead of honor classes, senior government class, math and science classes that required prerequisites that he had not taken. The 1st two weeks were no problem. After the 3rd week, I noticed a dropped in grades, more importantly a drop in attitude. He was always a happy go lucky individual, but then I noticed a child who carried the weight of the world on his shoulder. When I called at the beginning of the 4th week, the VP told me he wouldn't change his classes & would change them in January. "If he fails, oh well. I can't do anything about it." I have met more parents who have pulled their children out of this school than any other in the valley. I would never recommend this school. My son ended up losing his scholarships and graduating a semester late because of the incompetence of several individuals. Ask around. Is this what you want for your child?

I graduated from this high school in 2009. Several of my friends have siblings currently attending. It seems to have remained about the same as when I went there. It is considered a top school in the Las Vegas valley. It's got a good variety of after school activities, sports, spirit days, and academics. Students were very nice to everyone. Very few bullies. I can think of two fights in four years. One involved a flip flop flying across the courtyard. The other a bit nastier, but nothing crazy. Doors that were supposed to be locked, always were. Very safe school. Lots of AP courses, no IB. Academics were generally pretty strong at Coronado. I can think of quite a few people who went to schools such as NYU, Brown, Northwestern, Yale, and UC Berkeley. But it's also really easy to slip through Coronado in basic classes. This is a rich school, but everyone was really chill about it. Some activities have a few Cali/Arizona trips. About $1000/year for 6 or 7 trips? I think some sports got it for free. Band & Colorguard didn't. Debate didn't. Oh... the football team was terrible... I'm pretty sure it is still terrible. Overall a very, very good school.

I honestly cannot give this school more than 3 stars because I have no idea what goes on at this school. Since moving to Nevada I have never felt connected to either Bob Miller or Coronado High School. That doesn't mean they aren't good schools just that there isn't much opportunity for parent involvement and there aren't any parent conferences unless you have a problem child. I just felt like I was the one who always had to send emails to my daughters teachers because they made very little effort to get to know her or me. I felt like she was just a number; a face lost in the overcrowded school.

We are newly relocated to the area and have nothing but great things to say. We started communicating in February and completed the move at the end of the school year. The administration did a wonderful job in welcoming us to the area and showing us the great stuff they do. As we were completeing our move, they had tryouts and placements going on for next year. Not only did they ensure that the kids got into the tryouts but one of them had his equipment packed away. No problem, substitute equipment was provided. We have high hopes for the school and look forward to being involved with the community.

Every young girl wants to be a cheerleader.. unfortunately even if your child is a highly skilled dancer and has trained for many years, but you don't know the coaches or the politics or start sucking up early.. don't even try to get on this high schools below average squad. Your daughter will only be hurt and depressed after learning her fate. Oh and don't let her be anything but white, that's a Definate waste of time to even think about trying.. great way to build enthusiasm to incoming freshman

Honestly, Coronado High School needs to step up. They need to do something about their bullying problem because it hasn't changed. I'm not going to use any names, but I am the sister of a student who is being bullied. There have been many reports and complaints over the months about this issue and the school hasn't bothered to do anything about it. My mother went to the school to find out that the reason the school hasn't done anything about the issue is because they thought it stopped. If you don't stay informed with the students and people involved in bullying, how can you know that it really stopped? They always try to do something after its already too late and someone has been hurt. Coronado High School is not on my good list right now and I will continue to send in complaints for the sake of their students.
