My daughter is in 3rd grade and it's her second year at Gehring. She is very happy and excited about going to school, especially the GATE (Gift and Talent Education program). The school provided lab top computers to bring home and do projects on. They have Virtual Reality glasses to wear in school to learn about science. In one of my daughter's projects was to draw a fictional character based on the teacher's description through reading and have the kids enter it into a drawing program in the computer to make it "alive". At the end of the project is to have the character print out by a 3-D printer. My daughter is excelling in school, and she is very happy to go to school every day.
In addition, the school provided free hot breakfast and lunch every day with a meat and vegetarian choice. I also fell the school is very safe without any bullying incident that I know off. The school has a parent and teacher meeting once a semester to go over the child's progress. They also have a website called infinite campus to see all the test scores, and over all test grades. I feel like they really do care for my child's education and well-being. I would recommend this school whole heartedly.

My son was a fourth-grade beginner at the school. He was accepted late in the second week of the school year, the day prior to him joining. I asked if I may meet the teachers on his first day; they said yes. The next day I went in, they said sorry the teachers are busy getting ready for the school day. And I said, OK, is there anyone that could walk my son to the classroom room? Hes never been to the school, doesnt have any friends, and he doesnt know his teacher or where to go. They said that he can just go outside and try to find a dot on the ground by himself. Ive had a teacher bully him. I was so excited; this was my first choice, and Ive been trying to get him into there for two years. He finally got in, and since the first day, it was just a shock and a letdown.

Roger Gehring has been a wonderful experience for my student in the last 2 years. The accolades this school has received are well-deserved as the level of education my child has receives has been excellent. We were leery in the first year as the kinder expectations were greater coming from a high- performing preschool but we were blown away by the level of reading skills by the end of kinder. The expectations are quite high at Roger Gehring, as a Blue Ribbon and 5-star school, but we have enjoyed being a part of the Gehring community.

Gehring ES is an outstanding school that truly prioritizes the holistic development of its students. I have two kids that are currently at this school. The variety of extracurricular clubs available allows children to explore their interests and develop new skills outside the classroom. From art animation club and choir to robotics and tortoise club, there's something for everyone.
Field trips are thoughtfully organized, providing students with hands-on learning experiences that deepen their understanding of various subjects. This year, my 4th grader has already gone to the philharmonic and is taking another trip in two weeks for robots. These trips not only enhance the curriculum but also foster a sense of community and excitement among the students.
The guest speakers invited to the school are always engaging and inspiring. They bring real-world insights that enrich the students' learning experiences and spark their curiosity about different careers and life paths. Last week my 5th grader had a guest speaker talk about the courthouse.
Overall, Gehring ES creates a vibrant and nurturing environment that encourages students to thrive academically and socially. Its one of the best schools in the county. It is a magnet school so make sure you apply for the lottery program through the ccsd website.

The staff at Gehring only care about their ratings and not the well-being of their students. When family trauma strikes the teachers guilt students. The administration protects bullies and allows teachers to bully students as well. They cover up these events to keep their stars and advance their careers. This has occurred for the last three years.

I have two children enrolled at Gehring and this will be their second year attending. Overall we are very happy with the program. The teachers listen to any concerns, and answer our messages quickly through ClassDojo. My children enjoy participating in the before-school clubs they offer, and are always excited about the extra STEM activities they get to do in their labs.
I am happy with the amount of after school events and activities they hold such as dances, open houses, academic nights, carnivals, etc. Homework has been adequate and follows along with what they learn through each week. Grades are shared constantly during the year so we never have any surprises and are given time to make up any missing work. My kids do not have any complaints and love their school.
The school uniforms (Standard Student Attire) is welcome and levels the playing field when kids aren't concerned with worrying about what each other wears.
The few issues we had, which aren't worth mention
ing specifics because they could happen anywhere, were taken seriously and resolved cooperatively.

The school has really gone downhill this year. Not sure how or why it still has such high rankings. They do absolutely nothing about bullying, in fact it almost seems encouraged as the staff are the biggest bullies of all. If you are not a wealthy, stay at home mom who can volunteer for all of their day time activities, your child will mean nothing to the school.

My son told the teacher he was going to be a doctor when he grows up and the teacher tells him why dont he try working at McDonald's....Really... So glad his out of there and is still testing higher that the state and local and still on the A and B honor roll. Horrible

My daughter has been attending this school for 1.5 years so far. She gets disappointed during holiday breaks because she loves going to school that much. She's testing above national levels in all subjects. She's gone to a couple other schools in the area but this school has been our favorite. One big downside is the bussing routes are laughable. They expect a 7 year old to walk 30 minutes to her bus. Why even provide the services at that point? Makes it hard for lower income students to get the same opportunity to attend the school.

Do not walkRUN away from this school. It may look great on paper, 5 star magnet school with many awards and recognitions, but this school gives NO CARE IN THE WORLD about your children. If your kids arent perfect or fit into a cookie cutter box, then youre the outcasts and will be driven out immediately.
For starters, we had to fight hard for our son to even be considered for an IEP. It took lots of outside support and documentation before services even began.
I asked that they consider retaining or holding back my boys, and without any proper documentation, they said no. Then two weeks later, they sent us paperwork about why they made the decision to cover their butts. Our boys continued to read below grade level and earn failing grades, but they think moving them forward is a good idea...wow.
We had an issue with one of my sons putting his hand down his pants as a comforting issue, and they tried to claim it was sexual. The counselor refused to speak with him about it claiming this was a home concern and not a school one. When we had the conference about the behavior, the counselor openly lied in front of her admin to look good. We requested from that point on she see my son weekly. That was 3 weeks ago and she has only seen him once.
Oh! They also shut off access to google classroom for my son until the meeting was held. Why? To be cruel. Thats it.
We are made to believe our kids are rotten. During a virtual awards ceremony in which all parents were encouraged to attend, our boys received nothing. Not even an acknowledgment of their name.
The administration is awful which trickles down into every aspect of the staff. There is no teamwork amongst teachersthey all look miserable and barely speak to each other.
The list goes on and on. Please find a better school for your kids. The Gehring way is not the way for most children.

HORRIBLE from day 1 of enrollment and being invited to this school. Thought this would be an excellent opportunity and challenge for my child coming from a much better school system in the Bay Area of CA. BIG MISTAKE! Immediately discriminated against and treated poorly by staff here for being a parent with disabilities, my hold then suffered the bullying of staff because of their disdain for having me on their campus, despite paying the fees I was ostracized by the PTA and constantly belittled with each interaction woh staff. My child was bullied multiple times and stolen from at school twice and the staff did nothing! Conversely IF my child did the least little thing official notices were drafted and served. This school is a terrible bias institution that only cares about their business of getting funds and not at all about the students or the LAW!
Posted: July 27, 2020
The teachers here do not assist children with developing responsible behaviors for turning in work- they dont personally collect work then blame the student for not doing their jobs as instructors
Posted: July 27, 2020
The teachers here so NOT seem concerned about the success of their students and blame students for their difficulty understanding instruction
Posted: July 27, 2020
From the way students at this school conduct themselves with such intolerance for others and bullying behaviors I disagree- kicking, stealing lying, threatening etc
Posted: July 27, 2020
The new aprincipal Mrs Y is discriminatory against parents with disabilities, is politically two faced and only cares about getting funding for her school- not the students welfare. The office staff also has rude desk persons with little knowledge about ADA law yet they are running a business to the public and should be better trained. The principal and vice principal placate and then dismiss parents concerns and and act snidely against any student or their parent that may reflect poorly on them, they seem condescending and discriminatory in their decorum
Posted: July 27, 2020
If your childs needs do not qualify for an IEP then they are basically unwilling to make any accommodation despite a legitimate professional diagnosis and the staff STRONGLY advocates parents medicate their children for ADHD and exercise little other alternatives or patience than wanting the child on pills
Posted: July 27, 2020
My child was repeatedly ostracized and bullied and blamed for it.
Posted: June 19, 2020
Overall, our experience with the school is mediocre. At my older son's last elementary school, there were always dress up days, class parties for doing well, pep rallies, school spirit days, etc. Gehring didn't have anything like that expect that the students could were their Gehring shirts on Fridays.

My son was there for KIDS program so this is not applicable.
Posted: June 19, 2020
My son was in the KIDS program for the 2019-2020 school year The only reason I gave this question a positive review was because my son's teacher is an amazing woman. Ms. Hudman is a wonderful and compassionate teacher. My son made huge accomplishments this year because of her.
However, this class is supposed to have 2 full time assistants, all the time. For the entire 1st semester, Ms. Hudman was lucky to have one. There was always a new assistant, very rarely were they there for longer than 3 days. This was difficult for my son who has a hard time with people he doesn't know. The other assistant spot was left empty or filled by other school staff who often left the class to do their other duties. The teacher was most often left to wrangle 8 or 9 autistic 3/4 year olds on her own!!! Absolutely unacceptable.
I made a complaint to the office and the only thing they could tell me was, "We're trying to hire someone". It took them over half of the school.year to hire just 1 permanent assistant. Terrible.

Posted: June 19, 2020
I met the teacher and 1 assistant at the "Meet & Greet" 4 days before school started. Then, on the 1st day of school, they assistant was no longer there and there was a temporary assistant who floated between schools for 10 days at a time and 1 who was quitting in 2 weeks. These are issues that should have been dealt with ahead of time.

This review is based only off of my experience with the PreK program.
My son has an IEP and they did not follow it correctly. The teachers left on emergency leave and there were many substitutes coming and going. I was not notified about my childs behavior until he was RPCD twice and his behavior continued to get worse. He didnt want to go to school and would cry. The Vice Principal told me he needed to be trained Likes hes some dog? If your child has ADHD or any behavior problems FIND ANOTHER SCHOOL. I pulled him out and he is doing amazing in another PreK program where the teachers are actually kind and following the IEP.

My overall experience rates 4 stars. My daughter continues to excel above grade level and she enjoys attending this school. The only down fall is the lottery system for selecting club members. It should be on a first come bases with stipulations of participatd in one club a year if selected. My child submitted a minimum of 5 forms
; each time resulted in a disappointment. She was eagered to be involved and partake in any club/ school activities. However, it maybe a good life lesson for kids to just keep trying.

My daughter went to this school for a year and it was the biggest mistake I made in regards to her education. The homework was never consistent and it often contains only one math problem. The math teacher review rarely reviewed the homework with the students. It was horrible.

The principal at this school bullies students. If she doesn't like your kid especially if they have learning or behavior disorders she will like on your child's IEP to get your child bused to another school.
Posted: July 11, 2018
This school is horrible. The teacher are usually great and do care about the students but the principal and the school counselor are horrible. They bully kids and if they don't like your kid they will get suspended for everything. Even minor things that could have been resolved during a lunch detention or losing recess. They have lied about things that kids do and will try to fish for information from other kids to get them in trouble. DONT SEND YOUR KID TO THIS SCHOOL especially if they have diabilities including ADHD, ADD, or any behavior disorders.

Bullying of a child and parent continued by administration when we filed another complaint about the child being denied access to homework. A child was then coerced into writing a false accusation, even though he said, 'that wasn't what happened' they insisted he write the 'truth'. This happened the day after we filed the complaint.
Posted: May 15, 2018
a neighbor has an autistic child that they have done wonders with. Our child was denied even an evaluation.
Posted: May 15, 2018
When they were confronted about having a child write a false accusation, my daughter was understandably upset over her daughter being accused and confronted principal who told her to leave campus. Two days later she was invited for a conference but no conference took place as they had school police waiting to serve her with a not trespass order. If you disagree with their bully tactics and how they keep parents in line, apparently you will be served with a no trespass to keep you silent!
Posted: May 15, 2018
We filed a complaint due to denial of services and the school began insisting on guardianship change even though there was a notarized statement on file giving my mother permission to speak to the school. They retaliated for us filing a complaint by blocking my daughter from accessing her homework and test study guides on line! They actually IMPEDED the education of a child who is classified as homeless and has vision problems!
Posted: May 15, 2018
They are the leaders in bullying and set a fine example.
Posted: May 15, 2018
I would give it a 1 star. There are some good teachers but unfortunately the bullying we have experienced this year at the hands of adults entrusted to a child's education left us no alternative but to withdraw the child and homeschool her. She is doing much better and is excelling.

Absolutely not. My son cries every night b4 school because he hates Gehring so much. No, they single students who are not doing as well as others. Which makes him even further behind in learning what he is supposed to in class.
Posted: May 7, 2018
This school definitely does NOT have a good approach to homework. My son never gets any. Yet, he's supposed to learn this RIDICULOUS MATH that not even the parents understand, nor High school students. You can't even balance a checkbook using this new NY VERSION of math! Sad thing is THEY KNOW THIS BUT STILL INSIST ON TEACHING IT.

Front office staff do not look happy, they seem agitated. Asked to speak to principal several times and she is always too busy or unavailable, even when you see her earlier taking to fundraisers. They seem to be more worried about fundraising than educating. There's some goofball weird looking young adult dancing like a clown playing hip-hop music and expect little children to go begging around for money . Also the perimeter and the schoolyard is full of dog wastes that does not appear to be maintained for weeks and months. This school also hosts some strange neo-religious ceremonies in its buildings on the weekends. I feel very afraid sending my child to this school for many reasons.

My son has gone to this school since Kindergarten and it was great till this year!! The new Principle is absolutley horrible and is a micro manager with the teachers. They don't even get to teach the way they want and are dictated to teach her way! They have taken the spelling tests away and cursive writing lessons and give them lessons during the day that they don't give directions to. It is a shame that this school has gone down hill at a dramatic rate and I won't even start on all the bullying going on!!! BE KIND is their motto and the ONLY KIND AND CARING PERSON IN THIS SCHOOL IS KAREN IN THE OFFICE!!

In 2010 I moved from CA to NV and this is the one and only school in Las Vegas that my son has attended so far. He started at Gehring in the 1st grade and is now entering 3rd grade for the 2013/2014 school year. I must say that I absolutely loved my son's 1st grade teacher Ms B. The staff in the office is really nice and helpful, especially Karen. Gehring has a wonderful and very active PTA with lots of exciting events scheduled throughout the school year. Last year's principal Mr. Schroeder and the vice-principal at Gehring, Mrs. Locke made a very good team working side-by-side at making Gehring ES the best it can be with high expectations from Students, Parents, and the PTA. There is lots of school spirit here....Go Geckos!!!

This school has done wonders for my daughters education!!! They fought right along the side of my husband and I to get her the help and education she needs to succeed.

I really like the front office staff Karen is great! the assistant principal is also really nice everytime I see her she talks to me! My only concern is the way parents Drive in the front parking lot like it is a race track ... I have reported it so I am really hoping there will be something done about it before a kid gets hurt or killed by these parents careless driving.

I withdraw my kid out after 3 days in school. Stuff is unprofessional, teacher told 7 year old kids " their parent will go to jail if they will be taking during class". NO one showed my little one where is food court she was lost. The principal yell on her not on teacher (who responsible for my kid). Not a good school, will not recommend to anyone.
