very performative white savior school with a high hispanic population and zero leadership. jenny hunt or jenny ricci is constantly emotionally abusing staff and has very low staff retention because of this with test scores not high. i would avoid this school altogether as to not support the wrongdoings that are going on here

The kids don't seem to be doing anything productive when I ask mine how their day went. I've heard of, and seen Jenny Hunt berate staff, and communication with the staff is poor as well. I've done some research on her, and she has been fired from this same position in the past, so I don't understand how she's in the same position currently. Don't send your kids here.

I've been keeping tabs on Mariposa since 2012. I've had over a decade in trade school recruiting in rural California and northern Nevada. I've been intimately involved over 200 high schools. I've been in the trenches in evaluating feeder elementary schools to these many high schools. I know good schools from bad or mediocre. Mariposa is like sending your kid to a private school. All the kids are completely conversant in English and Spanish. Their work ethics and level of cooperative politeness is what every school strives for. In this school the "diversity" score is low only because the "Great Schools" website analysis software isn't designed to recognize this type of unique school. This school is the very definition of "inclusive". The kids are almost all destined for high level trades and/or full university professions. Almost all the kids have intact two parent homes. Every kid is exposed to UNR and are taught they belong there or in high level technical schools. This school is as good as it gets. There is a tone of humor and respectful diligence that the kids carry. Every day heaven on earth is created in each classroom. There is no talking back or troublesome behavior. The principal has been doing a great job. The teachers can teach in this school and Reno is lucky to have this school. In all my years in education I know for a fact that this is the type of school America needs.

This school is horrible. At Mariposa, I was told that my kindergartner was top of his class but when I switched him to a public school later that year, he was far behind in curriculum compared to his classmates. In fact, I was told by his kindergarten teacher that my son didn't need to learn math until he entered first grade, which is a complete lie. There are no standards for this place to follow and the dual language is a joke since the children only spend one hour /week learning Spanish. The homework is just a weekly packet that consists of writing a letter from the alphabet, highlighting a letter, coloring, drawing a picture and writing one sentence about it. None it changes to challenge the student. Office staff are highly unprofessional, they spend more time gossiping amongst each others than doing their actual jobs. Also, this school will keep your child in the office if he is not in proper uniform, they care more about their uniform policy than your child getting educated. The parent volunteer hours are a total joke, a majority of parents just stand in the classroom in the morning gossiping and those count as "volunteering."

The new principal is great,you can see he is trying to improve the school but the front desk administrators are extremely rude. They have there favoritism towards certain parents,which is highly unprofessional. There are a few teachers they that are not a role model for the children. The way they speak to the children in a demanding way is under professional. The teachers need to influence please and thank you for the children, because if the children see the teachers not saying it then the children will not think they need to say it. Overall, if Mariposa is trying to improve and certain staff members are not willing to make the effort to increase improvement then maybe this school should replace certain staff members that are holding them back.

My kids teacher so far has been good. Some staff, specially the front desk has been a bigger problem. They have horrible attitudes and really no respect towards some kids and the parents. If you are considering taking your child to this school, really look into it before you make a final decision to make this your childs future. And on top of it they also have the common core curriculum, which if you know what it is you know it is HORRIBLE.

I had the great priviledge to work with my company to provide backpacks with school supplies in them to Mariposa Academy Charter School. After meeting with the Neil and Yolanda from the school and the wonderful tour I was deeply impressed. The caring, respectful and warm hearted adults and children of this school deeply touched me. I would love to have a child I could send to this school as I know they would recieve the best education and sense of pride in themselves that would carry them on to bigger and brigther things. Great people and great school.

My daugter was identified as gifted in Kindergarten. This has been a great alternative to the gifted program and I am very happy. I love that I can go in the school at anytime of day at help in the classroom. Great family environment and great staff! I feel a lot of love for this school and take pride in my children being able to attend a dual immersion school! You won't be dissapointed if you like to be involved!

Mariposa is a wonderful school! They treat every student as family and welcome all parents to come and observe or volunteer in the classroom. They do a great job of opening your child's mind to a new culture and a new language.
