I want to share a different perspective as a Black parent with two daughters currently attending Sandra Thompson Elementary. Our experience here has been overwhelmingly positive. My older daughter is a straight A student who has consistently felt supported, encouraged, and celebrated by both her peers and teachers. She was even honored for her talents by winning the school-wide art contest and having her artwork featured on the yearbook cover, a moment that meant so much to our family.
My younger daughter is currently in kindergarten and recently scored in the top 5% of all students at her grade level, which speaks volumes about the quality of instruction and attention she receives.
The staff and teachers at this school have shown genuine care and dedication, not just academically but emotionally as well. My daughters feel safe, seen, and inspired every day they walk into this building.
I wont discredit another parents experience, but I do want to add that our experience as a Black family has been one of inclusion, encouragement, and high expectations. Diversity matters, and while no school is perfect, Ive found Sandra Thompson Elementary to be a place where my children thrive and are treated with respect and value.

The ratings of this school tell a story. Black students at this school are not treated with the same respect and dignity as students of other races. I had a nephew and close friend whose daughter also attended. My nephew attended 4 years ago, my friends daughter attends two years ago and my son is a current student. Unfortunately, we have all had similar experiences with different instructors and office staff. The lack of care and instruction black students receive is likely the reason the test results reflect the way they do. I am looking in to pulling my son out after the school year. This school lacks diversity amongst the staff which is very telling. I hate that my son had to experience the lack of compassion and care he experienced at this school especially being in the 1st grade. Parents with children of color, do NOT send your children here.

Did full research before sending my child to this school for kindergarten. Ms. Weisanthal is the most passionate and amazing teacher one can ask for. Entire staff is fully committed and enthusiasm shows in their actions. Now my two daughters go to Sandra Thompson.
Truly this school is underrated as it SHOULD be 10/10 compare to many other private, magnet and charter schools. AB

Mr. Halland is the greatest principal I have seen. He is hands on with the children and closely monitors the classrooms to make sure the teachers and students are meeting requirements. They do send home a substantial amount of homework, however I feel that promotes parent involvement which is an important part of student success.

Teachers are fantastic and always willing to work with students and parents.
Posted: April 7, 2018
They are always watching and encouraging students to Be Kind and promote it through positive reinforcement and awards for being kind to others.
Posted: April 7, 2018
The Principal Mr. Halland is AWESOME!!! He genuinely cares for the students and the school.
Posted: April 7, 2018
Students with learning disabilities are fully supported with additional staff and constant support.
Posted: April 7, 2018
Again, Mr. Halland has a zero tolerance policy for bullying and addresses any potential issues immediately and effectively.
Posted: April 7, 2018
Teachers provide constant feedback to parents and kids for continued improvement and learning.

A perfect 10 out of 10!!! This principal and staff genuinely cares about the students and the school. I LOVE THIS SCHOOL and I regret placing my daughter in the Magnet program at another school!!

My kids have gone to Thompson for the past 5 years. I love the teachers and all the staff. Ms. Suzi, Ms. Shelly and Ms. Danielle in the office are amazing. The PTA is extremely active run by some amazing moms and dads. I am proud to be a part of a wonderful school and to send my children who are both Honor Roll and G.A.T.E. The test scores are some of the highest in the city here. My son is moving on to middle school but my daughter will continue on. One grateful parent here!

As a grandparent and volunteer of a student here at Thompson ES, all I can do is shake my head at some of these one star reviews. It's apparent that something didn't happen exactly as they wanted, so what better to do than unleash the beast on a school so undeserving.
Let me address a few things...Racism? Are you serious?!
Pulling the race card is an easy thing to do, but what it really is, is a disgrace.Thompson welcomes every child and family. Race plays no part. Bullying?! I know firsthand that Thompson has ZERO TOLERANCE for bullying. Get your facts straight!
"Dangerous things concerning your child"?? Again, get your facts straight.
The principal and his entire staff have been nothing but professional, kind and welcoming. I know they go above and beyond to ensure that ALL are treated equally. I have witnessed a disgruntled parent lash out at Mr. Halland as well as the front office ladies. They remained professional, while being yelled at for simply doing their jobs. I know many parents who have students here at Thompson. I have a solution to your unhappiness with this school...
go somewhere else.
We LOVE Thompson!

They keep in based individually on each child's learning ability.
Posted: May 17, 2017
I have seen nothing but positive reinforcement from the teachers. I'm amazed at the energy and enthusiasm they have day in and day out.
They are awesome!!
Posted: May 17, 2017
Whether it's the classroom or a field day event,I've seen promotion of respect and integrity throughout.
Posted: May 17, 2017
They standby the guidelines in all aspects. Mr. Halland runs a
tight ship! It teaches the kids accountability which is so important.
Posted: May 17, 2017
Teachers do what they can while the children are there. They also
give suggestions for tutoring or extra work that might help. They also
work with the tutors to make sure of the kids progress.
Posted: May 17, 2017
I've been involved first hand and know there is no room for
bullying in this school.

Great! I have been volunteering for the last two years and can't say
enough about how great the ladies are in the front office. I always get
a warm greeting and smile. I see them take a lot of grief from parents
wanting to take a child out of school early or change something on
file when they don't have any ID on them to prove who there are. Then
rip into them when they apologize and explain they can't without it. I
would think it makes more sense to get upset if they DID NOT ask for
identification. These rules are in place for the safety of our children.

I love this school for multiple reasons. I love several of the Teachers, I love the ladies in the front office, I love how interactive they are with the parents, I love how Mr. Holland dresses up for school occasions, I love how they do all sorts of events that involves the whole family and i really really love Shelly Reese! I have 2 kids enrolled in Thompson and can not wait for my 3 year old daughter to start Kindergarten, I hope she gets Mrs. Roberts

EVERYTHING ABOUT IT HAS BEEN ONLY A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE. SOME OF THE STUFF WRITTEN IS SUCH NONSENSE. IT'S 2017 !
SCHOOL HAS HAD A 4 AND 5 RANKED RATING FOR YEARS (1-5 STARS RATING SYSTEM), OBVIOUSLY IT STANDS FOR EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM ADMINISTRATION, FRONT OFFICE, TEACHERS AND STAFF..

Horrible customer service at this place, terribly rude principal (or lack thereof), can't understand how these people still have jobs, check the google reviews about the front office staff and principal they are atrocious. Worst school I have ever dealt with and CCSD should be ashamed to call this an educational institution. If you're not good at overlooking dangerous things concerning your child, STAY AWAY from this place.

Our son has been going to Sandra Thompson Elementary for the past 3 years and all I can say about this school are great things.
The staff is incredible. I have been very please with all our son's teachers. To me they all have seemed to gone that extra mile for him.
Now to the complainers. You all must of went in on your own bad day and wanted to stir something up because Suzy is out of this world, a wonderful, helpful and very pleasant LADY! How sad to take your anger or whatever on a LADY who has always went the extra mile to assist any parent when needed. Mr. Holland, I tip my hat to this young man, he has his hands full but always finds the time for the students and parents, I have seen him interact with the children and I am very pleased on this. The office staff is out of this world!!
We had a few security issues come up, the school staff and drivers did way more and beyond to provide protection needed for our son/sons as they worked very closely with us. It was nice knowing my son was safe while in school and getting home.
I do wish the school offered after school activities and I do understand why the do not, other then that I personally would rate Sandra Thompson Elementary School and Staff 12 stars out of 10.
Thank you to the outstanding Staff of Sandra Thompson for again another wonderful year and we look so forward to seeing you all next year.

Our son is finished within 10 min. Then when I look over it 99.9% of the time all his answers are correct. I feel the children should be challenged more.

Our son has improved in his math and reading The teachers are great Keep up the great work

My daughter has been attending this school since the start of her Kindergarten year. The principal is a really great guy that is extremely involved with the children and ensures that the school stays on track for what is best for everyone. Every single teacher my daughter has had has been amazing especially considering the amount of children in their classrooms. I have never felt that the office staff have been rude. In fact, they have been the opposite. They are always helpful. However they are strict and firm about certain matters for the safety and well-being of the children and teachers. I heard many horror stories about Las Vegas schools. This one feels like a small community oriented school. My daughter is now in the fourth grade there and she could not be happier.

This school has taken I to account the means to teach versus tell. I abosolutly love this school. The teachers and staff are always helpful. Thank you for everything.

I second the "rude blonde office worker".....She is a miserable person and needs to work elsewhere. Replacing the entire office staff including administrators would make this a better school. Only have 1 more year there till we move.
Posted: May 22, 2013
Really don't care for the blonde that works in the office. Haven't like you from day one. You are rude and very unhelpful. If you don't like your job, get a new one!

My daughter is in the 3rd grade and loves her teacher! I also approve of her teacher's teaching skills and the way she interacts with her students. All of the staff is very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this school to someone moving to the area!
