THEY SENT ME TO A MENTAL INSTITUTION FOR BEING SLIGHTLY SAD ABOUT BEING BULLIED, THEY WITHHELD DOCUMENTS FROM OTHER SCHOOLS WHEN I TRANSFERRED, THEY LET ME ACT UP IN CLASS CONSTANTLY, AND PUT ME IN SPECIAL ED BC I WAS BEHIND BECAUSE THEY NEVER BOTHERED TRYING. DO NOT SEND YOUR KIDS HERE IF YOU LOVE THEM.

On Friday October 24th, 2025, my son was physically attacked by another student on the playground. He was body slammed twice and the other student was trying to scratch him. The second time he was slammed, he hit his head on the concrete. This incident happened at lunch (11:55-12:30pm) and had not notified me until 10 minutes before dismissal.

The nurse examined my son, and he stated he hit his head on the concrete, however the nurse did follow concussion protocol. She didn’t even call me to tell me my son was being examined.

After his exam, he was kept in the office to write a statement regarding the incident. No one called me then either.

Why did they wait so long to notify me?

When I spoke to the counselor on 10/24/2025, I asked for her to call with an update since the incident was still under investigation.

Monday, I heard nothing. Tuesday, I heard nothing. Wednesday, I emailed the principal asking for a meeting. She wasn’t available to I offered to meet with the vice principal at 3:15pm. She called me instead. I asked her why no one called me, why the nurse didn’t follow protocol, stating I was disappointed in the school.

Her reply to everything? “I don’t know”. Disgusting.

My son is in 4th Grade at Reedom and has been going there since Kindergarten. It has always been a great school and I would recommend it to anyone moving to the area.

During this Coronavirus. My daughter always asked me when can they go back to school. They love the teacher and their friend. My daughter can remember all the staff names. The school always have a good activity. My kids love freedom elementary school.

For being a parent that always at work. Thank you to all the teacher that helped my kids improve their reading, writing and math. They have so much fun on all their activity class such as science, music and PE. I strongly agree.

I find it very frustrating that I purchased a home near this school for over $450,000, and I will have to pay for private school for my kids. This is a nice part of town, and I have no idea why this school only received 55/100 points and is rated as a 3/5 Star School. There are about 100 elementary schools that performed better than Reedom. Very disappointing...

My children have been at this school for over 6 weeks, they still have NO grades? What on earth are the teachers doing? If they don't grade papers how do they know how my children are doing? I even email their teachers about the lack of grades, and it was no big deal? This seems crazy! Maybe if parents don't know how their children are doing in this school, then they will think it is a great school?!?

I have never met the principal, she does not seem to be an active part of building relationships with the families whose children attend the school. There is not an active PTO/PTA (or if there is they do not make themselves known or are not active at a level that supports teachers and parents). I love my sons teacher but have witnessed behavior in other teachers that is less than desirable such as impatience with students and lack of ability to deal with the every day challenges of working with children.

I feel the school does a good job at teaching my children. The school does not have any control of the way the parents behave.My children started there back in August, and no complaints so far.

This school is terrible! They allow their parents to break the law every day by parking on public streets that are designated as NO PARKING AT ANY TIME. Blocking streets and forcing drivers to swerve around them. This is an accident waiting to happen. This school is a menace to the community as it allows its parents to violate posted parking restrictions. The parents are either too lazy or illiterate and the school does nothing. I will not allow my child to go to this school as it does not put their best interest first. I guess that is why charter schools are becoming so popular. Thank god Doral has a campus on Cactus!

As I look at all the other comments, with the exception of a few, it seems as though they are missing the big picture. Carolyn S. Reedom ES is a great school, from the front office to the administration, to the teachers, down to the custodial staff. They all make it a point to get to know students and what each child needs. Some of you are complaining about one or two items (lunch, lunch lady, being able to eat with your child, etc.) that is not what makes a school great. What makes a school great are the caring people that are a part of the school, including the parents. Reedom Staff is awesome. I have had nothing but great interaction with the staff. I know that my child is safe and secure when at school.

I have had many conversations with Principal Sheppard as well as the assistant principals. They have all been able to assist me, answer my questions, and resolve issues.

My son will be entering 2nd grade tomorrow and I couldn't be happier with his progress. He has made great strides in Kindergarten and 1st grade at Reedom ES. There is open communication between the teachers and parents. The administrative staff has always been welcoming and available to answer any questions. My son is always excited about going to school and says a great majority of kids are very nice. The teachers do a great job with empowering the students and teaching students not only the curriculum, but how to be positive role models.

We moved to Las Vegas last year and learned that they had changed to a 12-month school. I told them I had another child in middle school, so I needed to be on Track 5 so they could be somewhat on the same schedule. They told me it would be hard, so I asked what my other options were. The front office lady snickered and told me "you don't have any!". Real nice first impression... I wish it had gotten better since then, but there's no communication from the school, no involvement from anyone, and it does seem that nobody on the admin side cares at all. My child's teacher is very nice and tries to help everyone, but it's not enough to overcome the lack of everything else. By the way, all 5th graders should be on Track 5... because next year in 6th grade they'll have to go to school from July to December with 2 weeks vacation in August. This reflects the forward thinking of the administrators at that school.

I do not feel that the principal is involved enough. It's not a bad school at all but I think the little things need taken care of better. I would rate this school a 6. My daughter never can finish her lunch because she says she has to listen to the lunch people and nerve has time to eat. Very weird?? Not happy at all on how they deal with lunch time she is so hungry after school!!!

This is not my favorite school. The principal seems nice, some of the teachers seem nice, the front office staff isn't that friendly. They are very strict at lunch, understandable when there are so many kids to get through lunch, however it feels like I drop my kid off at prison every morning. Thank goodness he's made friends to make it a little easier.

Principal Kalandra Sheppard is running this school into the ground. I think it is time open a federal case to expose the mismanagement of this school. Her tenure at this site is ruining our great Mountain s Edge Community. She does what is best for herself and not the students. Kalandra is rude to students, rude to parents, and rude to teachers.

I am laughing at the last post. Maybe a parent should spell principal correctly before slamming the school. No school is perfect, but my children have attended Reedom for four years and have been successful. I have volunteered in their classrooms on numerous occasions, have brought my children lunch and have had many positive interactions with the school nurse. I tend to see the parents with the most issues are the ones that want to constantly complain and who are too busy to be involved. Guarantee you will have the same problems at the next school!

I wish I could say this school is great but It's not. You must schedule a time to speak with the principle and even then it's a argumentative conversation with her getting defensive. I had to have my child removed from her class half way through the year as her teacher was completely incompetent to teach with a horrible attitude toward the kids. My child has a learning disability and wasn't given the 504 accommodations.The lunch ladies Yell at the kids and if they talk they remove them from their lunch and make them sit up onstage in front of everyone so they can get their names. They treat parents like terrorists. NOBODY is allowed in their child's class ever. You can't even eat lunch with your kids. They remove your child and make you sit at a table in the front lobby. The school nurse talks to you as if it's a imposition to help your sick child and heaven help you if you can't get there right away to pick them up. The principle has a poor attitude and so it trickles to the staff. Glad to be In The new school next year!!

Most not all....of the teachers are horrible. My son's teacher was rarely there and my daughters kindergarten teacher was very mean...too strict for kinder. Never saw the principal once and we were at the school for 4 months! I have heard the principal is bad still. Not overly impressed with thus school. I put my kids in a charter school.

The school has implemented a zero talk policy during lunch. The children are not allowed to talk during lunch until they reach level 2. At that time, they are allowed to talk. If they are caught talking during lunch, even whispering, they are given detention. Children need to interact with each other. When I phoned the school to question this new policy, they claimed the children could talk once they got their lunches and were sat down at the table. That is a lie. I have spoken to several teachers and students and they said that the new assistant principal walks around the lunch room and yells "zero talk policy!!" If the administration don't want to listen to children talk to each other, then they are in the wrong business. This is not a prison. The school used to be so good. We miss you Mr. Wilson.

My children have been attending Reedom for the past 4 years. At first the school was great... My son had an amazing Kindergarten teacher and my daughter loved her Kindergarten and first grade teachers. But for the past 2 years their teachers are just not as good. One teacher actually used to pick on one of my children continuously questioning her for being late... even saying "______ makes it to school on time, why can't you?" If the school has a question about a child being late; I feel they should speak with the parent. One of my children has also had issues with bullying/name calling... I must say I don't agree with their procedures regarding bullying. I wish there was more communication. There are many events they offer, which my children love. As for the office staff, I have never had an issue. Julie in the front office is the best... always very helpful!

School was putting wrong attendance at my child. On January 2013 they send me a letter that my child has already 6 absences, ok yes because she was sick for 4 days last year understandable. They send me a 2nd letter notice on February saying my child has 10 absences WOW !!! My child was never absent from January 2013 to February 2013 . And lastly March 25 I received the third notice saying my child has 16 absences REALLY??

I could not be happier! I have three children attending Reedom and the programs and education that they receive is excellent! My children all three love their teachers and come home from school happy and talk about their day at school and what they have learned. The music program is so great! The art and the myscilearn and so many others. The pta leader is great. The office staff is always willing to help me. My kids love the Daddy/Daughter and Mother/Son dance. Field day is great too! I am so proud that my kids go to Reedom and am so thankful everyday that my children are getting such a great education, thank you!

2nd year at Reedom and very disappointed. My son attended Kindergarten last year and the school was amazing - great communication, good teacher, etc. Now with the new principal it's gone completely downhill! My kids are in First and Kinder, the notes coming home from the teachers are unbelieveable. First it started with the teacher sending me a page and a half email that she didn't approve of my daughter's lunch (sandwich, apples & mini cupcake) and I should make better food choices for my child. Now I get a note saying that they are monitoring the kid's bathroom breaks and will *reward* children who don't use the bathroom with gifts from the Treasure Box. Are you kidding me?

The principal is horrible and lacks the skills to work with children and parents. My son is going into the 3rd grade and has been attending Reedom since Kindergarten. The 3 teachers he's had so far have been nothing short of amazing.

My son has attended this school for 2 years. He's in 5th grade. The teachers seem to yell a lot at the kids and are very strict as far as 10 year old children should be concerned. If I had a choice I would move somewhere else in Vegas to get better instruction. Math teacher is also not very structured and seems very lazy

My son is in all day kindergarten and I am amazed at the superior level of education that is given. He's challenged and encouraged and this is all a parent can ask for. Excellent teachers and support staff. Very active with the community and parents. I highly recommend this school.

My daughter has been a student at Reedom not quite one year. I would say that the front office staff can be a bit unprofessional at times, even argumentative when concerns are brought forth. First impressions are important, and theirs has more than once, left a bitter taste in my mouth. The teacher that my daughter has is awesome. I wasn't too happy to hear about my daughters interaction with substitute teachers. It truly made me wonder how much is put into the school truly hiring quality subs for these intermittent positions. On a positive note, I do absolutely love the challenging and well structured academic program offered here.

Just moved from NJ and thought it would be very difficult for my children to adjust. My daughter joined the full day kinder and my son is in 4th grade. They both love the school and their teachers. They have a structured homework program which my husband and I really like and the parent-teacher communication is done very well. I hope that this continues for more years.. Strive to be a Blue Ribbon School!
