The dean is a horrible man and they are so inconsiderate about children’s emotions.

Non-existent communication and transparency from the administrative staff. There is a principle but the dean seems to run the entire show and decides very arbitrarily on discipline. My child thankfully has never been in trouble but still has to bear the punishment becasue that is how they handle things. If a child is disruptive during lunch they are ALL given silent lunch for days or a week. In my opinion this is a great way to empower the disruptors and undermine children who are behaving. Also, we all know post covid how important socializing in school is and these blanket punishments are damaging to the students social and emotional health. Again from my perspective and knowledge the dean seems to be the one in charge of most of these decisions. When I contact the teachers they respond and it seems that they have a good approach but they dont seem to have much say in all the school policy making and enforcement. I have sent 4 emails to the new principal all of which were polite and just asking for clarity on some items. As of December I had still had not heard back. Most teachers seem basically effective, some are really very good but those who have displayed issues with how they speak to students or address various situations are just left to continue. It is of course possible that some of these issues had been addressed but parents and students wouldn't know because there is no flow of information besides basic announcements. When I say no transparency I mean absolutely none. I don't even know who oversees the policies and enforcement. It seems that the dean has full authority to decide punishments at a whim. Some kids are suspended on what seems like a regular basis for talking during lunch or squeaking their shoes loudly while other incidents that involve threats and potential for serious issues are "counseled" away. I don't even know how many incidents we have not been made aware of because there is zero communication with parents and families. This school has some really good teachers and students and if the administration would step up and create a PTA and engage families amazing things could happen. The theatre teacher and many other teachers are doing a great job but it is blunted by the overall school atmosphere created by the administration. I have several children in the NYC school system from elementary to CUNY. If I was given the chance to redo our middle school decision to attend MVP I would never have sent my child here.

Overall its a very good school, staff and teachers work hard to do their best when it comes to the student's learning and safety. Unfortunatley, the school lacks parent involvement, lacks a PTA, parents involvement or insight to school policies, school budget or funding or educational decisions made. This is an academic and sports driven school and does not offer diverse after school clubs and not many school educational field trips throughout the school year which may be due to lack of staff and or space.

School does not respond well to parental concerns and suggestions. This school needs to start involving parents in policy decisions. The discipline code of this school disrupts private lives of students and parents. Too punishing and stringent!

MVP has a lot going on, too much Drama for the kids, and many negative comments on what goes on. Sadly this school has gone down.

Gracias MVP!
