Frontier Senior High School

This district and school are a bureaucratic nightmare to substitute teach in! The building administration is more worried about you covering lunch duty or monitoring the halls then they are having adequate lesson plans for you from the regular teachers or the kids being the least bit cooperative for you! I came to Frontier High with very high expectations based on its reputation and was let down almost every time to the point that I felt sick coming in to work here. All of my free periods were removed so that I could cover for a teacher who they either failed to adequately replace or one who was there and just wanted to go to some event that period, all to the point where I could no longer adequately cover for the person I was supposed to fill in for in the first place! All of this came with barely any sort of gratitude or thanks from my supervisors. (The main office secretary is particularly nasty and ungrateful to her substitutes). Since this district wants to know why it always has a sub shortage, I can definitely say it's because of how they treat the subs they currently have; like dirt. It's a shame; I'd always held Frontier (and the students who they do have that do have that are truly respectful to adults) in high regard, but because of its inability to get out of its own way administratively (From the stubborn central office and secretaries) and insistence on doing the same thing for thirty years, I refuse to work in this district a day longer.

Frontier is the classic example of a once-great school that gets dragged down by the issues from its central office. The district has been in financial crisis for years and that along with the high Superintendent turnover really has impacted the high school in a negative way. Many great people have had to be laid off and strong programs cut, while class sizes have gotten bigger. Both students and teachers have grown discouraged about the district, and a lot of students are just down right apathetic about education. There's a lot of potential in this building but it's being dragged down from all the drama stemming from the district office. Also, it's downright impossible to substitute teach in this building because the secretaries love to reassign you to cover other classes during the day.

As a recent graduate, I feel as though Frontier High Achool is like a large private school. That is if you do well here. They have about 8-9 AP courses and multiple college level classes so you have the opportunities to do well. The school is friendly but can also has typical high school issues. I didn't really had bad teachers there, some were boring but none that should've been fired. They recently renovated the hallway, improved the landscaping and built a brand new library. They could improve the quality of diversity and maybe academic courses but overall my experience was fine and prepared me for college.
