This school is very inclusive and has many activities to satisfy all children. There is a very low, if non-existent bullying factor. It was surprising how well children support each other. The music programs are stellar as are the drama related activities. Every sport is available and there are several state championships. The math and science programs offer extra learning activities, open to all students.
If you were choosing a school in the Pittsburgh area, Moon Area school district is one of the best options. In addition, to the school, the community is very supportive. It is a pleasant place to live. It's also minutes from the airport and 20 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, but you would never know you were close to a big city.

I don't feel too strongly about the amount of homework one gets in High School since it's run like every other U.S. school, ignoring the fact that there is no benefit to work outside of school other than to cause unnecessary stress.

About half of the teachers are either incompetent or just don't care to teach since they'll still be getting their paycheck. The principal is so disconnected that he doesn't even bother to look at how students pass classes, like cheating and copying each other instead of actually learning from the teachers.

The only reason I would say it has qualities like the ones mentioned above would stem from AP scores, SAT scores, and Keystone tests (even though they aren't required anymore). Other than that, this school is full of racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, and hypocrisy. The students are regularly high and drink underage (outside of school or at football games and dances) or are juuling in the bathroom(s).

The principal runs everything and everyone. No one gets a say in anything and the only ones that do are the teachers that are all buddy-buddy with him. He doesn't listen to the students because he has a superiority complex that allows him to block out all other issues about himself while blaming it on the students or the school board itself.

Nope. Same style for pretty much every class. Socially, it is looked down upon to go to Parkway or take cyber school or anything else, really.

Ha! The biggest bully is the principal, Barry Balaski. Anyway, they tried to have the school run an anti-bullying program called "Olweus" but no one took it seriously. After that failed, nothing else has been done, but it's not like anything will change with this school full of entitled, stuck up, (mostly) wealthy-middle class students described as racist, sexist, and other discriminatory behavior.

There needs to be some serious change to this school. I certainly never plan on returning to this district, and I'm sure a lot of other students don't want to either. Overall, the administration is messed up, they emphasize controversial topics but don't implement any sort of plan to fix it, and is full of idle stand-offish teachers and people in general who don't care to change it for the better.

The middle school and high school facilities look great, especially the high school auditorium. The school seems to have a good arts budget. Which is a good thing, because the school can't do anything else better. Overall, what a waste of my years. I never fit into this school socially, and the school has done POORLY at handling bullying, even with the new Olweus program. The school lunches have never been very good. In the high school, they aren't as bad, but they're still mediocre. You may then ask, "Well what about the teaching staff?" There are a select few teachers that are outstanding, and others that are decent. The majority are poor. I never knew there could be so many teachers in one building that can't teach well at all. And most of them don't help out well with bullying either. This place is a WASTE of tax dollars, and all the parents thinking that this school offers a "quality education" are HUGELY mistaken. Avoid Moon; there are plenty of better schools around (i.e Quaker Valley, USC, Mt. Lebanon, South Fayette...). And the senior projects are a waste. Why focus on senior projects when you can focus on BETTER TEACHING SO WE DO BETTER IN COLLEGE/REAL WORLD?

This school is the best in the area, no question. With the new campus built and the great staff members, this school is just well rounded and amazing. I am a sophomore and I have been going to Moon my whole life and I am proud to say so.

I stayed in Moon Twp., in spite of the high taxes, because the school is basically a good one. On the plus side, colleges seem to accept these students readily. The teaching staff is extremely supportive. The sports programs are top-notch. There is a lot of new technology available to the students. However, there are some issues. The old principal did not do anything to help students who didn't "fit in the box." The new principal has promised more than he has delivered so far. I have tried to be an involved parent, but I have not gotten a lot of help from the administration. I have heard the same thing from other parents whose kids aren't the "cookie cutter" students. The curriculum does need to be updated; the most recent updates have been piecemeal. All in all, it is a decent school, but there are some things that need to be improved.

... all of my science teachers have been great teachers, and all but one of my history teachers have been really great teachers! One of my least favorite parts of the school, is the lunch food. It is so gross. Chunky mashed potatoes, yellow pepperoni inside the pepperoni rolls (even the nurses told me not to eat them) COLD chicken, pink burgers (I don't even know if it's even real MEAT!) They also have this really gross pizza that has like a whole wheat crust. You can't really tell it's that kind of pizza until AFTER you get it, which is unfortunate for me, because I'm allergic to wheat and shouldn't eat that much at a time. I don't even think the lunch ladies approve of the food, but, I do like the lunch ladies... They, for the most part, are very nice!
