A dangerous school without question. I did armed security here in the past. It is basically a holding cell before prison.

This is pretty much a terrible school. Non-white students get racist remarks from white students on the regular, special ed kids get bullied, any form of minority does as well. There are some opportunities, but its difficult to entirely stay out of trouble when you fall into the group of minorities (including learning disabilities or disorders that impair learning: dyscalculia, dyslexia, adhd, autism, depression, anxiety, processing disorders). Theres many fights every year, encouraged by students. Kids with learning disabilities rarely get a chance to receive help in time to make it in their classes. Many of the students talk about being violent with others, use slurs they shouldnt, and treat others with little respect. Majority of the times, teachers dont intervene, or intervene once the student targeted is standing up for themself. Countless students skip their classes because they dont understand the material, feel disrespected by staff, or are struggling with the stress the school causes them. Several students have openly called themselves Neo Nazis. There is alcoholism and drug abuse induced harm shown in the health curriculum, and its only recently that students have been told they can step out of class. The curriculum itself is entirely outdated, ignorant of students triggers, limitations, and more. The school spends its expenses on useless things, such as health books that go untouched with students on a 90% of the time online curriculum. There are better schools out there. Its guaranteed youll find bullying in other high schools, or picking of minoritiestheres nothing done to change it at this school. Most staff seem more determined on getting a paycheck than assisting a child in the next step into their future. Be prepared for bigotry, misogyny, racism, ableism, and more.

The school is very openly horrible. students have overheard teachers speaking about how they dont care about them, because students are only here for a bit. This school supports Autism Speaks, which multiple autistic people have spoken out about. Autism speaks tries to cure autism. and punishes kids for having symptoms of autism. The school has threatened to expel multiple students for reporting racism. Principals do absolutely nothing when threats, hate violence, and bigotry, homophobia, sexism, racism, antisemitism etc happen.

I loved this school the academics may have been lacking but the amount of diversity and creativity from the students was awesome. Though I did graduate in 2018. The biggest problem with the school for me was I was left fully unprepared for being an adult and college because I didn't even know where to start financially. And they more or less brushed it off so I never did go to college.

Personally, it is neglected by the district I believe that it's not entirely the schools fault for low test scores. The district should support it and help some.

Teachers are bullied by the principal of you speak out against anything in the school for the sake of the students.

Numerous kids on probation who are more concerned with bullying and beating up other children than obtaining a good education.
But what can you expect from an administration (who are suppose to be their mentors), are too busy not accepting responsibility for their own actions and are simply playing the political game of covering each others' back sides. It's shameful when they are getting paid with taxpayer dollars and don't care about our children's education, safety or well being. From one parent to another, definitely check out other options for your child's education and your family's piece of mind.

East has been ignored by the district in favor for sister school Central Dauphin, but East has better classes and teachers that make a positive influence on the students. Test scores may not reflect that, but it's the truth.

The issue with CD East lies within the school district. For years this school has been ignored by the district in favor of their sister school, Central Dauphin High School. When the school boundaries were last redrawn, the disparity between the two school became even greater, yet no one on the school board or within the administration has the guts to admit it. While I believe the diversity at East High is one of its' greatest attributes, it is also one of its biggest problems. There is a major lack of parental support of the school in most areas such as sports, curriculum, and alumni. The quality of many of the teachers and administrators is poor either because they lack the support of the district or they simply don't have the skills to perform the job they were hired to do. The district has turned a blind eye to these issues for years and show no signs of correcting them. . Financially, there is such a huge gap between the two schools it's almost impossible to comprehend. CD's alumni association raises thousand of dollars annually while East High's alumni struggles to make ends meet. How the school board continues to ignore these inequities amazes and saddens me.
