This school may have good testing scores, and some of the staff likely are not the same as the others, which is what seems to be organically bitter and nasty.
Most of my interactions from day one have been awkward and cold. I thought that I was singled out, until I had seen at least one other Mom treated, what seemed to be cold and rude by office staff.
If we return here, it will be under the grounds of pure praying and hope that things will be different next year, and to not switch schools. Honestly though, I have had to talk my child into going to school this year more than I ever have because she doesn’t feel challenged or welcomed there for the most part.

We love Orange Grove! My son is in 2nd grade and has been there since Kindergarten. He was a little behind when he started and the teachers were on the fence about promoting him to 1st grade. After much discussion with his teachers, we agreed that 1st grade academy would be the best option. (This is a program that slows things down a little for the first part of the year and also adds a second teacher to help give the students more attention and help if needed). My son did well with this and now in second grade has excelled and it is scoring near the top of his class. I believe the teachers fully support the students there. They do expect help from mom and dad at home to help them reach their full potential. I am extremely proud of my son and the work he and the O.G. teachers have put in.

This school will be ok if you dont care when your kid gets pushed around. The moment a parent stands up for their child and child’s right to a safe learning environment, they will roll their eyes like 5th graders. My student’s life was threatened and proper procedures were only followed when I pushed the issue. Mind you, they set the proper procedure, thou in my opinion it was not effective or quality procedure.

Be ware of the academics, everyone gets great grades because participation grades have the same weight as tests. So they can bomb tests, and get a 100 for a participation grade and it all works out. Charter schools are allowed to apply whatever “weights” to their grading scale. I want to know what my kid is not understanding, not all A’s if he/she doesnt truly understand the material.

There are teachers here who are great, there are also teachers who do what they are told and/or follow their own political agendas. IMO, politics are not for children. School should be a safe place for childrens minds to flourish. This is not the case I have experienced.

I thought this was going to be my answer to this areas school issue, but unfortunately it has not and is not. I wish the administration would humble themselves and listen to ideas. If we dont all work together to rear children, its the children who suffer.

Orange grove is the best school in the area for sure! I went to Ashley Hall as a kid and even if I could afford to send my 3 kids there I would keep them at Orange grove! The teachers are great and care so much about their job! At other schools I've visited the teachers looked apathetic to say the least! A lot is expected of the Parents but why not! These are young kids that without parent involvement Would be lost at home after school! I love it and any kid or parent would be lucky To go there!

I am in love with this school! My children have been here since kindergarten and are in 3rd and 4th grade now. They both are happy and in the gifted program testing very well. I am encouraged to come in and help, pop in to see how things are going, or just have lunch with my child anytime. They also switch classes according to testing levels in math and reading. This allows more individual style learning.

This school is over rated. The staff mainly the office people are stuck up, rude and unapproachable. There are some great teachers there. I have never been made welcome there. I have always been active in my childrens school but they seem to be against that. I dont even know who the princapal is dont know what they look like even though i have requested a meeting several times and always get the run around.

I have two children in the school and am very pleased. I have a background in teaching as well. As with any school, the key is to know what is going on with your child and keep on top of things and involved. Most children thrive here. We have loved the school.

This school is abosolutely outstanding. The teachers go above and beyond to help each child achieve their best. My daughter is in 1st grade and she is reading at a 4th grade level. I could't ask for a better school.

My child is highly gifted and loves her teacher and how well she pushes her. She comes home having learned new and exciting things everyday. She gets so many opportunities to do wonderful things here. Orange Grove is AMAZING!!!

I would like to reassure parents that your gifted (highly or otherwise) student will absolutely get served at Orange Grove. The GT teacher has a full computer lab in her room, consisting of laptops for each student as well as several ipads. The curriculum is designed by the teacher and students are challenged on a daily basis. Project based learning is a key component of the program. There is no other GT program in CCSD that can match it. The technology simply isn't there for them to do so. We currently have students working on tenth and eleventh grade level standards because of their giftedness. The teacher also works with the GT students closely to ensure that the students are well-rounded and not simply focused on academic success. My best advice would be to speak with parents who have students in the program. Often, forums like these are for disgruntled people to "vent" their frustrations to the world" and an accurate representation is not given. I would like to invite anyone who has doubts about Orange Grove to please come and visit. Ten minutes in our school will give you a clear idea of what we are about.

I would encourage all parents, current and prospective, to come in and see for themselves all that Orange Grove has to offer. The level of individualized instruction that we offer is something we are all proud to be a part of. As stated in an earlier post, you can't base your decisions on other individual's opinions. Please come in and form an opinion for yourself. Don't just ask the teachers and staff, talk with the kids and get their opinions as well. - Steve Schonveld, teacher.

I have been a teacher and parent at OGECS for 6 years. I could not ask for better collegues to work with as well as to teach both my children. There is a love for each child that permeates through the entire school (very family oriented). As a parent, both of my children have been challenged (something I miss in middle school).

My daughter attended second grade and she had a horrible time. The principal and staff only care about the grades, not the child's well-being. Also, they do not treat minority students fairly.

OGECS is an extended family of mine. I love my job and the ability to teach children every day.
