Blythewood Middle School is great. I’m not sure what the other reviews are talking about, but I have had a positive experience so far at BMS. The teachers are quick to help with academic needs, and they offer tutoring before or after school. The students are easy to befriend, and you can always find someone who likes the same stuff as you. The administrators are quick to support all student needs. Also, the counselors are easy to contact and are always ready to talk. Blythewood Middle School is a great place for your student to shine and grow!

This teacher who’s last name is Easterling has been saying and going after my family member’s class and saying that they won’t have “snack” which is crazy because our students are paying whoever with this money for the snacks provided by the school. She’s saying that only first lunch will get snacks and not second lunch? Weird don’t you think?Other than that amazing school

Hearing great things about BMS I was initially excited for my child to be a student there. Over time I learned it was the complete opposite. The school overall is on the map for great test scores and academics however it is not the best environment for students who may struggle, socially, emotionally or even academically. Some of teachers and staff there seem to work really well with students, however based on some of the student teacher interactions you can tell there may be some “teacher burn out”. In the areas needed the school staff does not seem to be equipped or even try to work with children who require additional support. Middle school is some of your child’s most difficult and fragile years, going through puberty and so many other things so it’s important that your child is in an environment where they are given grace, support and positive reinforcement. If your child is a social butterfly or one that does exceptionally well academically, this may be the school for you, if not I would strongly suggest doing your research to ensure your child gets the best support needed all around the board in their school setting before making a final decision on your child’s school.

DO NOT LET YOUR CHILD GO HERE. The kids kiss each other in the hallway and rub up on each other there are fights about every month or so. One girl even got her scalp ripped out according to a younger student and the bullying here is insane. If your child has a unique style DO NOT SEND THEM HERE. The middle school boys are bland or creeps. The girls are fake and gossip but the education is good even though some teachers are mean. The social environment is terrible but the education is ok and students often say racial slurs like the B slur and N word and other things. I do not recommend this school.

Our positive experience at BMS has been declining over the past two years. Honors class sizes are large, students use tablets/Chrome Books for learning-actual textbooks are not used in some classes & teaching/learning is only from computer. Honors classes move quickly, sometimes leaving students behind. The Common Core method is being taught & students who are struggling with math (like Algebra) are also struggling to change to the method CC requires. This prevents parents from helping their student b/c they do not know how to work problems the CC way. A tutor who knows CC will be needed. Kids can access computer games & play in class. A teacher told me kids cannot be stopped from playing during class because, "I have 30 kids in class to keep track of". Power Point presentations are sometimes the only material used for teaching. Teacher collects info. from sources, arranges onto slides & the students to teach themselves. Students study for tests off of a PP presentation. Computers should be a supplement for learning. Study skills are not taught. If your elementary school does not do this in 5th grade then help from home! A positive, the TEAMS class has been enjoyable!

Blythewood Middle School is a top notch educational facility where academics come first! Teachers want their students to succeed and provide many opportunities for that to come to past. They also provide many extra curricular activities such as Student Council, Charger Art, Model UN, and many, many more! They also provide an technology enriched environment with ITEC and iPAC classrooms which provide 1:1 computing. The only con that this school has is that the student to teacher ratios are very varied. For instance, I had a Honors Science class with 20:1 ratio and a Honors ELA class with 31:1 ratio. Other than that, it is a great school!
