I wanted to leave a painfully honest review for others to see, especially since their Google Reviews appear to be turned off for some reason. I would not recommend that any parent enroll their child in this school. This high school is one of the most disgraceful in the district, and it’s filled with misbehaving students that teachers and administrators struggle to manage. As an alum, I can confidently say that bullying is a serious issue there. I had many classmates who made rude comments about almost anything, and simply reporting them to an adult was not enough to stop their behavior. I also witnessed a few teachers and staff members bullying and gossiping about students who were just trying to get through school and graduate, which is extremely unprofessional. Another important concern is that some adults there show clear bias and treat certain students unfairly. Unfortunately, if your child is not in the magnet program, they may not receive the same quality of education, as a significant portion of funding and resources appears to go toward Horizon students. Please consider other options when choosing a high school to ensure your child is in a safer and more supportive environment.

Great faculty, great AVID program, admins and counselors do a great job with the students.

I'm a sophomore at this school, and it absolutely sucks. The principal doesn't even know how to take care of this school correctly. They gave cohorts to lunches now to stop fighting, but that isn't gonna stop fighting and it hasn't. The only thing it has done is cause people misery. Cohort 2, which I'm in at all times, has to wait until 1 to eat, and even then can't eat in the gym, or anything. The cafeteria is even filled with study hall kids and crowded. Plus, I was a treasure in my club and now I can't even meet with my club, because thanks to this stupid idea, my club meets during cohort 1 lunches and I'm never part of cohort 1, so while my club is going on-- I'm in 3rd block waiting for lunch! They encourage students to join clubs-- and then do this and cause some students to be unable to participate in them.

This school is the worst school I’ve ever attended throughout my life, and my family is military, meaning I’ve enrolled in quite a selection of schools. The academic standards are low, bullying is a strong issue, and there have been many life harming situations resulting in school lockdowns in which the parents remained unotified. In my experience, the receptionist hardly answers the phone either, so good luck trying to get ahold of them unless you decide to drive there! :)

I was hesitant to enroll my child at this school when moving to the area due to a military move. Parents didn't have to much good to say about it. Glad I decided to make my own decision and enroll my child. He his taking all honors classes, participates in the PCA magnet program, and is on the swim team. He loves it here! From day one, the staff was very friendly & helpful. Teachers were quick to reply to emails. The students are encouraged to participate in multiple extra curricular activities. He is doing very well and actually enjoys going to school. Of course, you have your typical HS issues but it's not excessive and my child feels safe at school. I've had the opportunity to meet parents who are not zoned for this school but enroll their kids at this school so they can participate in their Magnet programs. I would recommend this school.

My son attends this school and he is doing great. It all has to do with parents being involved to make it a great school. This school for the most part is like a Family. Students and teachers are friendly and look out for eachother. No high school is perfect it’s all in what you make of it!!

I wouldn't rate it very high. My child has been bullied at this school, life threatens and theyjust had the boys will be boys attitude. My child is in special education and they are telling him he can't get his high school diploma. He has to be on the bin diploma tract. I don't believe this is fair as he had worked hard to get it and since being in this school they won't let him work towards this goal.

The teachers are nice, I'll give them that.. but judging this school as a school and their competence in teaching a future generation, it is a failure. For example, they go over punctuation and other elementary English subjects such as that in English III. They used to teach matrices in Algebra II, but standards have watered down. On top of that, their approach to bullying is below par. You will get suspended for self-defense. Alas, most of my dislike towards the school is based on their incompetence in teaching. Decent place to go if you're going insane due to lack of social activity, people here are very social. But by no means should you go to this school for academics. That's a mistake you'll be making.

RNE has wonderful, caring teachers and great administrators. Everyone is genuinely concerned with student's well-being and education. There are wonderful programs, PCA (Palmetto Center for the Arts), Convergence Media and Horizon as well as IBMYP and IBDP. The Health Science program is 1st rate for any students that are interested in health careers or those very special students who want to pursue their CNA certification in their senior year. Opportunities really abound here!

I think that Richland Northeast is an amazing school! A lot of the time, I feel that RNE has a bad reputation; however, this normally comes from those who do not really know what an experience at this school is like. All of the teachers are understanding and willing to help, and there is a great number of clubs. Our student government is one of the best in the state and works to make the school a great place to be. There is a place for every student - honors, AP, IB, CP - every program is great and willing to help students get where they want to be. Programs like AVID and Gear Up help students get to college, and other programs like CATE help students prepare for their future careers. The Horizon academic magnet allows students a great place to learn with other enthusiastic students, while Palmetto Center for the Arts allows students to express themselves through a wonderful arts program. Convergence Media produces the school's award-winning publications: The Cavalier newspaper, The Archive yearbook, The Saber website, Psyche literary magazine, and RNE-TV Live. Richland Northeast is a great high school for students of all interests, and it helps anyone get where they want to go.

There are so many opportunities for our children to excel academically, but also achieve marketable skills to use in the workforce. This school achieved the highest amount a scholarship dollars awarded to students last year. One student alone was awarded over $800K. That's what got my attention. The environment is family and community friendly. My daughter (9th grader) spends most of her free time there.

Richland Northeast High School is an International Baccalaureate World School that also provides many exciting magnet opportunities such as Horizon (academic), iLink (technology), Palmetto Center for the Arts (PCA) and Convergence Media (broadcast and written media). The student body is diverse but incredibly welcoming with a family like atmosphere and accountability. The IB program has just been implemented in the last two years so there are some growing pains as the district and the school assimilate and communicate the opportunities that IB brings to Richland District 2 students. The international and global aspects of the IB program mesh extremely well with the diverse (and often international) student population that comes from being the feeder high school for Fort Jackson. As the wife of a Northeast graduate and the parent of two children that are currently there - I recommend it highly!

RNEHS recently received an International Baccalaureate World School status, quite a prestigious undertaking, from what I understand of the program. Encouraging, but since my child is a freshman, I don't have much experience with the school yet. My first impressions are that, although the buildings are a bit worn out looking, there have been efforts to make physical improvements and there are devoted students, staff and parents to oversee maintaining school spirit, too. The parking lot has been redone, the media center has been renovated, the athletic field is receiving a facelift. The teachers seem dedicated and intelligent, the principal involved and visible. There are several magnet programs here, but I was one of few parents who showed for the "regular" track classes on Open House night. I think the school is aware of its challenges and is taking action. Also, the school improvement council has received top honors for its work. What concerns me is that the school sits in the middle of a neighborhood with considerable crime after the sun goes down. I wouldn't venture in after dark, yet my child walks to and from 5 days a week. Not ideal.

Richland Northeast has been the best experience of my life. I can honestly say if I had the option, I would not go to any other school. Our teachers truly care about each and every student and are involved in our lives. We just recently have been certified as an International Baccalaureate school and have many awesome magnet programs. Our journalism program is one of the best in the nation with a state of the art studio for broadcast students. Not only is Richland Northeast the best in the district, it is the best in the state and I'd say nation. It is impossible for me to over exaggerate how great this school is. We are a Cavalier family and every student has a niche to which they belong. It's a great school, and you'd be crazy not to go here.

I love RNE! I came from a private school, and many of my friends thought I was crazy for switching schools, but I love RNE! The teachers have such an amazing impact on the students.They have taught me so much about life and about the subject matter they are teaching. We have a new principal, but she is doing a great job so far. The administration is very helpful. I feel as though I can talk to them anytime. Also we have a great track record of sending kids to good schools. Last year we had graduates go to Princeton, Dartmouth, Emory, Davidson, Duke, USC Honors, and get accepted to UVA, Tulane, and many more. I feel as though all the great things about RNE are not published in the newspaper. Don't listen to people who talk badly about RNE because most of them have never even been here. We have an overwhelming amount of community and school spirit. Also we have the most AP courses available in the state of South Carolina. There are a few bad kids, but I have found everyone to be extremely nice and caring towards each other. We also had our facilities redone and they are amazing! I'm sad to be leaving this school. My advice would be to check out our Cavalier family!!
