7.8/10, very fun and tolerate teachers so that is good. Though some students think they are better than others and don't want to learn, so not the teachers fault. Traffic sucks....

Excellent high-quality school in a beautiful setting, although traffic can be miserable.

Most teachers cater to the above average students. Few teachers help those students who may not the the square peg that fits in the round hole. Teachers rely on consequences rather than talking to students about what might be going on.

Posted: August 18, 2019

Only if you already have these characteristics. If the staff see you through another lens then you are treated as such. There is no working those students who may struggle.

Posted: August 18, 2019

Our principal on up don't truly address issues as they arise but send out generic emails and sweep issues under the rug.

Posted: August 18, 2019

Awful. Having a student with a 504 plan the teachers don't even really know what this means. My student also has sensory issues and can become overwhelmed easily, particularly in classes that have a lab or a lot going on. Teachers don't have a clue about the executive functions and how this can affect a young person's mind if the student is "different".

We recently had a racial issue at our school which was mishandled severely.

Being a parent of students at this school is stressful at best. There are a few gems in the pool of staff and I do appreciate that. The academics are rigorous but in this day and age, I feel we need to focus more on the quality of the student's experience, helping them grow and develop with positive support, communication and to develop self-love. This school relies heavily on putting down those that struggle and consequences for those that may have difficulties at times with impulse control. I wish they would take the time to engage with students more and use mistakes as opportunities for growth. They waste these chances. Our school has an epidemic of anxiety, depression, substance use, eating disorders and competitiveness. I feel that if my children come out okay from this school then I have absolutely done something right at home and they will be okay in the real world.

My daughter is a rising Junior. Our first two years at Vandegrift have been incredible. Her teachers have been outstanding - supportive and invested in her learning. I have a second daughter who will be starting Vandegrift this fall and I am thrilled for her and all the upcoming opportunities. We have two younger children and will stay zoned for Vandegrift because of our positive experience.

I have a sophomore here. It is a great school for a public school! Fabulous fine arts though a bit over the top in intensity. Overall, I feel they do a good job and I like that the principal actually wants parent and student feedback so that he can optimize the school and its performance. Mr. Little loves his school and it shows!

Vandegrift is the best Highshool I have ever attended in my life and it would probably be everyone's if they went there

Posted: August 24, 2016

Anything that needs to be taught, is taught and if we do not understand they allow us to come in before or after school to talk with them

Posted: August 24, 2016

The only thing that gives me want to quit life is all the homework I am given every day

They give the best musical and intellectual education as far as I know than any other school in the world

Fairness, honesty and integrity are very much valued by the staff, teachers and students. Even with policies like no child left behind, it is heartening to see children being encouraged to excel in all activities including academics.

We have reviewed few other high schools in Austin area before choosing this area since we knew how important good high school would be for our kids. We are very happy with Vandegrift - great academics, great extra curricular activities; kids can start their own club or get involved with one of the existing clubs. Very competitive school for school rank, but, very healthy competition.

We moved from CA and are very pleased with this school. Academics are solid as are extra-curricular activities. There is something for everyone. Vandegrift won the Lone Star Cup this year for 5A schools, an impressive feat for such a young school. Every school has a mix of personalities, Vandegrift is no different, but we are very happy to be a part of this wonderful community.

This is not a area you should move if you are down to earth! Snobby people are the majority here! Very hard for high schoolers to make friends if they are nice kids. Kind of reminds me of the movie "mean girls" lol. No thanks!!!

Excellent curriculum with advantage of gaining over 30 college credit hours at local college or with AP offerings. Sports are gaining state rankings. Teachers are helpful with extra tutoring but atmosphere is independent as prep for college- sink or swim but help is available. Excellent guidance counseling on college awareness beginning at Frosh year, utilizing Naviance and other tools. Students guide their own curriculum and present choices to parents annually.

Perfect, classy, and educating. The teachers are chosen wisely and not only know their subjects but also enjoy teaching them. Very passionate about learning.

We do have DECA at VHS, as well as multiple academic UIL and foreign language Honor associations. Schools will always have drug/alcohol within the student body, however the culture of this school is amazing. There is inspiring leadership from Mr. Little and we feel like a family. AP classes are taught as they should be, at a collegiate level.

I graduated from this school in the spring of 2012, part of the first graduating class. This school is of cours well of financially and the football team and sports teams are doing great, there are not many academic opportunities. UIL Teams suck, AP classes are easy, and the overall student body culture is awful. A lot of these over privileged brats have drugs/drinking problems. Not more so than most high schools, but there are a lot of prescription pill problems dude to the richness of the general student body. There needs to be a culture change at this school, I wish they had things like DECA and other great academic programs. They could learn a thing or two from Westwood high school.

Award winning staff, motivated students and a very involved community make this one of the top high schools in Central Texas.

In two years of its existence, Vandegrift has achieved what many institutes take years. This remarkable achievement came with outstanding performance of all students in both academics and extracurricular activities with the involvement of their mentors and parents. Vandegrift 's school band's outstanding performance during competitions at district and state level enable them to get the best possible ratings within their class.
