I have been at this school for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. This school Is horrible! There Is no discipline for fights, smoking, or bringing weapons to school. The closest thing to "Discipline" Is ISS or call to parents. And that still doesn't stop the students from their actions. There are fights every other week from 3 to 4 in one week. The bathrooms are disgusting! Inappropriate drawings are written all over the walls! The principals have no care for the students or their safety, and it just gets worse every year to the point the school loses staff members. Once you are let into the school the doors are wide open to all visitors. There is non-stop bullying and harassment and constant threats to the school about shootings. I do not recommend this school at all if you want your child to have a good middle school year.

This is school has gotten progressively worse each year..
The fights are getting worse now, non-stop shooting threats..
The kids here are so disgusting- they use racial slurs, profanity, commit sexual assault or even say sexual things not to mention the dress code.. girls wear crop tops that is VERY revealing shorts and dresses as well..
Lastly THE lack of communication and safety concerns is just disappointing. They fail to bring attention parents about possible threats.. Teachers don’t care if someone gets bullied until it ends up becoming a fight or the just don’t care in general and don’t pay attention.
Honestly this school should get shutdown or at least be more strict..in my personal opinion

My child would tell me how some teachers had little to no control over the class room because some kid's wanted to mess around but majority of the teachers at Hernandez are wonderful and will go above and beyond for your child that's willing to do the work.

I would give it a higher rate but the principal is not that great like the previous principal, she is full of it and her process at lunchtime is not helpful, they already have a limited time and the lines can be long so she has them sit and wait until she calls on a certain table and of course picks the tables of her favorite students. Talk about a waste of time I'm sure she could be doing something else. And she can be rude and it rubs off on some teachers for example some teachers would close the door on kid's going to tutorial. I wish they would make the asst. Principal the actual principal I'm sure he'll get that school in shape.

8 out of 10 is my rating. They have some great teachers but they have some bad eggs as well. Get rid of them and the principal it'll be just fine.

Throughout the school year I have been plagued with too-hard assignments, not so friendly substitutes and unruly classmates. Despite the friendlier teachers and such, the school itself isn't that bad. I do complain that more than once my assignment got lost at the fault of a teacher, and I was forced to dig through papers to find mine. And the staff don't do anything with major problems that circle the school. Making out before classes, hanging outside in the back during first period, smoking, and self-harm. Especially self-harm. All these parents are reviewing, saying this school is amazing and great, but do they really know the things their child might be doing and/or saying? Us kids are great at keeping secrets, unfortunately. The school also ranked last amongst all the Middle schools in the district in terms of grades, ect. Very much awaiting my last day there.

My children have been attending Hernandez for the last 3 years. We were pleasantly suprised by the school's efforts to exceed educational standards. In addition they have applied to the International Baccalaureate to be considered for Middle Years Programme school. I have a student in the talented and gifted program (TAG) and she is being challenged and encouraged to be creative and inquisitive. The school is safe and they do not have more disciplinary problems than the other middle schools in the district.

The faculty and staff do a great job with the students. We have seen the significant growth our students have made since 2010 and we're looking for bigger and better things from our Bulldogs.

This is my second year with a child at this school and I have been very happy with my child there. The teachers are mostly responsive, and are available to meet with me. The principal has brought a lot of new ideas to the school and is working on its IB certification, which is a really great thing for the school.

Extremely happy this is my child's last year there. I am not a fan of Hernandez Middle School, and never will be. However, there is some new leadership in place this year and I am hoping he can make a difference.
