This school has some amazing teachers and classes but it’s simply the way that things are organized and done it shouldn’t take an hour for me kids to get home from a 10 minute away school and class schedules need to have at least some thought put behind them and this says a a bit because my child has gone to 8 different schools and this might be the worst one

My wife and I had 3 kids grow up in Georgetown and attend K-12. It was a great experience throughout. All 3 were well prepared for college and did well. All 3 participated in sports (daughter - Volleyball and Basketball, 2 sons Football and Basketball) and the coaching and support was outstanding for all of them. My daughter had great coaches in both sports and went on to play collegiately and now professionally in volleyball.

If you are a parent and looking for a high school where your kids can have a great experience, I believe there is nowhere better in Central Texas. Avoid the Austin traffic and enjoy the great town of Georgetown.

If your the parent of a football player, the Head Coach, Chuck Griffin is outstanding and consistently builds great teams by pouring into ALL the kids in the program from the Freshman B team to the Varsity. The do a lot of character development in addition to physical development, and the Varisty squad consistently competes for district and makes a playoff run. If you have a QB who’s stuck behind someone at another school, look into GT, they definitely have a QB friendly offense and your son will excel here.

We moved to the GISD school district when our kids were in 3rd and 8th grade. Moving was hard for them, but the support they received from the schools here was priceless, first at Benold Middle School and McCoy Elementary, and then continuing every year as both girls attended Georgetown High School.

Mr. Johnson and all the APs are kind, friendly, and supportive, and they make a real effort to know students and families personally. The teachers at GHS are exceptional. The coaches have been mentors and champions for the kids, helping them grow in mindset, life skills, responsibility, and character, as well as in their sport.

There are so many opportunities for students to get involved in clubs, sports, extracurricular activities, and areas of personal interest. I am truly grateful for the faculty and staff at GHS and for the GISD district as a whole. I would highly recommend GHS and am so thankful for our years here.

PS - The FRC (future readiness complex for STEM and electives with hand-on learning) is AMAZING and a GIFT to the district and High School students.

Georgetown High School continues to amaze me. The more you learn about the programs, teachers, and staff, the more I feel like my kids have the best opportunities to learn and achieve things I never would have dreamed of at their age.

My son is earning culinary certifications that have already landed him a job at just 16 years old. He also has the opportunity to learn engineering, rocketry, machinery, and computer science — all while creating and building. It’s truly hands-on learning. Who cares what the test scores are if he just completed building an actual airplane?

The principal is constantly updating parents on campus happenings, whether good or concerning, so we are always informed. The whole staff is welcoming and helpful. Any time I’ve had a question or needed paperwork, they have been responsive and supportive.

I love GHS! It starts at the top with leaders who magnify their stewardship and emphasize community. Mr Johnson and all the admin are amazing. They care about the students, families, and staff--asking for input and feedback. And they're willing to think outside of the box. The school emphasizes academics---but with common sense and good values. So students really feel connected to their school and community, and learn to give back. Teachers are top notch with a lot of heart. I appreciate the mentorship they've given my kids, with many pathways to success.

We moved here 5 years ago to give our children a better education, and Georgetown High has far exceeded our expectations. Not only did our kids grow and excel in their education, but they thrived in all of their extracurricular activities as well. They were coached by coaches that cared not only for their studies, but also their character and well being. Moving to Georgetown and enrolling our 3 children in Georgetown High was one of the best decisions we could have made.

Georgetown High School has been an exceptional experience for both of our children. The culture and school pride are unmatched, and the administration and mentors are accessible, supportive, and truly invested in students. Our kids feel safe, comfortable, and challenged in an engaging learning environment. Despite being involved in very different sports, clubs, and programs, both have had equally positive experiences. We would highly recommend Georgetown High School to any family.

We feel extremely lucky to have our children attend Georgetown High School. The leadership of the principals, teachers, coaches, and fine arts directors together have created a great environment for the students to be challenged and supported on their journey through high school. It really is a special place providing numerous opportunities both academically and extracurricular for students to explore and experience.

GHS is an incredible place for students to learn and grow! My children have been loved, nurtured and challenged throughout their time by a staff of teachers and administrators that care deeply for students on the academic and social/emotional level! Their staff listen and seek to understand when issues arise demonstrating that depth of care for each student! The leadership at GHS creates a community and culture that teachers and students alike can flourish in. Parents are welcome partners in their student’s lives in the classroom and beyond at GHS! I cannot recommend another high school as highly as I recommend Georgetown High School. I fully trust my children are in the best hands at GHS!

As a parent, I couldn't be more impressed with Georgetown high school. The sense of community is truly special—students genuinely support one another, creating a positive and inclusive environment. The teachers go above and beyond to connect with each student, ensuring they feel seen, heard, and supported both academically and personally. The administration is equally outstanding: approachable, responsive, and deeply invested in every student's success. Academically, the school sets high standards and helps students rise to meet them, consistently achieving excellent results. The extracurriculars are just as impressive, especially the sports programs. From a wide range of teams to state championship titles—including an incredible swim team—there’s something for every student to be proud of. It’s a place where students thrive, not just in academics and athletics, but as kind, confident young people.

We are wrapping up our first year at Georgetown High School. This school has a friendly, welcoming quality to it that I really appreciate as a parent. Teachers have responded quickly and thoughtfully to any questions I have had. The front office people are kind and helpful. The principal, Mr. Johnson, cares about the school and the students deeply and obviously takes a lot of joy and pride in sharing this school with new families. I appreciate that many parents are involved and care about helping the programs at the school to be the best they can be.

I would never have thought I'd be happy sending my kid to a school this large, but the environment truly feels much smaller because of the efforts the leadership and teachers make to connect personally with kids and families.

Some classes are not as creative or exciting as they could be, but others have truly impressed me. AP History involves a lot of critical thinking and looking at primary sources with multiple perspectives. My son's AP English teacher holds class discussions, plays, and has helped my son to become independent and much more thoughtful in his writing - an area that has always been difficult for him. The sports programs are top notch, including not just athletics but character development and team-building dinners and other events. I appreciate that the athletes are held to a high standard with their behavior - my son is surrounded by amazing kids and coaches there.

Finally, the school has been very thoughtful about keeping up with 504 modifications and I think any student with academic needs like these could be confident they'd have their needs met.

Ever since my child has been going to Georgetown highschool he has made loving and caring friends. Teachers her are super active with student and help the students stay engaged in class. Some teachers are helpless but their are plenty of teachers who are willing to help any student out. Homework wise, not a lot but more class work is what I have heard and seen. I am satisfied with this school.

My son and my daughter both love this school because of the way teachers treat them. They care and they take the time and help students if they have a problem or if they need help. They have great friends and also this school has a little more freedom than any other school. Teachers are not that strict and they are always here to help.

Haha, where am I supposed to start with this school. First off let me state that moving to Georgetown is a bad idea in the first place if you have young kids and you plan on getting them in GISD. Avoid this district as much as possible, in this school, in addition to the terrible education your kids will recieve, your kids will also more than likely end up getting involved in drinking and drugs. But of course you would say that I don't know your sweet child, so by all means please move to Georgetown and let your kid fall into that group of "sweet and kind friends" and let them go to those "sleep overs" and "birthday parties" and let them "go down to the lake with friends." Gtown is full of stuck up kids who have rich parents who will buy their "perfect little angel" just ANYTHING they want and let them do whatever they want. Such a sick school, and I was one of the unlucky kids to attend, I in fact left the school because of how aweful it was and saw a LOT of people go down bad roads. Parents nowadays are blind to what their kids are doing because they spend their time spoiling them rather than parenting them and watching over them and making sure their future is secure.

Posted: October 11, 2013

Way over-rated. It once was a blue ribbon school, but not anymore . Poor college prep programs. The teachers are doing their best with a "skeleton crew " due to how poor this district has become. The board thought they could save GHS by sending all the poor kids to Eastview, but it hasn't helped. Take my advise, this is school is a poor investment for your children, and your home.

Posted: June 7, 2011

This school is such a mess. They turn a blind eye & a deaf ear to Juvenile Delinquents, all the while, Punishing Good kids who work hard & earn good, even exemplary grades, for being Stupid Once! They have children do the punishment set forth by the school & Say all is A-OK, nothing further is required... Then turn the children over to the authorities, where the children are then Branded as Trouble making Gang Members(insert loud cough) & are placed on Probation etc. & treated like your common Criminal. Yeah, now That's the way to get children to Want to Stay in School...Kicking them while they are down. Schools have Too Much Power!

Posted: March 8, 2011

School says it is no tolerance for bullies but do nothing but turn their heads to issues. Teachers are being laid off while expensive sports projects and administration is left alone. All extra programs are PAY or get left behind! Forget about NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND! Band programs want parents to play to pay and then expect private lessons or your child is left behind. Band teachers don't teach each day and don't teach all bands at high school levels. Other athletic programs select only those who pay big $$ to play outside and inside of school. Very dissatisfied.
