The teachers and staff at this school are incredibly warm and care deeply about each child. My kids have learned so much and feel known and seen. There are many opportunities for families to be involved in school activities. It's a wonderful community!

We have put both of our children at Immanuel Lutheran. They are great kids and their development is due primarily to the educational and Christian instruction of the teachers and staff at Immanuel Lutheran. Many of their teachers have been involved with Immanuel Lutheran School for decades, adding consistency and buy-in to the school. It has been a pleasure for them to attend Immanuel Lutheran School, and our family wishes that we could do it all over again!

We found Immanuel Lutheran though a friend and could not have been more happy! It was everything we could have wished for.
When I started looking for a first school experience for my June birthday child (3 year old), I wanted a half day, five day a week program that was traditionally focused on social skills like sharing, following instructions and feeling comfortable to separate from Mom and Dad, This is not an easy type of program to find in Houston! Everything was better than I would have hoped. The teachers are all very experienced and have been at the school for years and years. They are kind, supportive and firm in the belief that children will love school if given a chance to thrive. Additionally, the teachers know the preschool age group very well and how to help them to adapt in the first few weeks. My child now loves going to school every morning, has made wonderful friends, connected deeply with her teacher AND knows her ABCs, her numbers and a good number of songs.
There is constant and strong communication with my childs teacher any time I need to reach out and we receive the sweetest photos.
Also, my child is in a class of ten children with a head teacher and an aide. The amount of attention each child receives is exceptional.
Immanuel Lutheran school has been a dream for us!

My son has been going to Immanuel Lutheran since he was 18 months old and loves it! He first started out in the toddlers class with Ms. Mimi and all the toddlers were obsessed with her! They followed her around like little duckies. His current teacher, Ms. Kellye, is so wonderful! She always comes up with the cutest crafts for the kids to do and has even set up a little garden for them to grow flowers this spring! He loves Ms. Kellye and is always in the best mood after going to school. Recently, he celebrated his birthday at school and Ms. Kellye made sure to make it a very magical day for him. He was so happy at the end of the day!!

Immanuel Lutheran is truly a gem in the Heights! ALL the teachers and staff know the kids by name! That is something you would not get at the bigger commercialized daycares/schools. My son has learned so much during the time hes been there not only academically but also socially. They instill kindness and politeness in their daily teachings and interactions with the kids. It has definitely paid off as my son is always saying please and thank you and shares with his friends. I also love that the class size is very small (less than 10 in his current class). I know hes getting lots of individual attention and help from the teacher and aide.

The facility is very large for the area. There are 3 separate outdoor playground areas for the kids based on age. Theres also a gymnasium that they use for gymnastics and other fun events. During the year, the church and school will throw huge events on certain major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter) During the last event, they set up huge bounce houses, face painting and a luncheon. These events are great because you end up meeting other parents and staff which builds a sense of community you wouldnt normally get at a big chain daycare.

I would recommend Immanuel Lutheran to anyone looking for a school for their kid. This school is unlike any other in that your kid will get so much individual care and attention.

We currently have 2 children enrolled at Immanuel Lutheran and have been so happy with this sweet little school! The teachers and staff truly care about the students. The kids are well loved and learn in a nurturing environment. My children love going to school and always come home with a smile on their face. We have been very pleased with their prek program and feel that our child is well prepared for kindergarten.

I can't say enough about this sweet little school. I'm from a small(er) town originally, and this school really reminds me of the one-on-one attention that you get in a smaller community. I am so glad to have been referred to Immanuel by a dear friend who sent all of her children there as well, and my husband and I have been thrilled with it over the last several years. Our oldest is now in their new kindergarten program that they recently started, and the kinder teacher, Mrs. Hernandez, is fantastic! She's so thorough, loving and attentive. The kids and the school are really lucky to have her as a new addition. My almost six year old and four year old have loved all of their teachers and classes throughout our last four years here. If you want a nurturing experience for your child in a loving, Christian environment, then I would highly recommend this school! There are flexible programs - half day, only a few days a week, school day and full day. We have done a mix of al of the programs, and have been happy with all of them. The school is also very communicative with parents. It's such a warm and nurturing environment. Again, we are blessed to have found this little gem in the big city. When my kids are too old to attend, I will be VERY sad to have to move onto another school. We feel like we have made lifelong friends here and we are so grateful for the community of Immanuel Lutheran!

The worst school staff I have ever seen! Specially the school director who refused to communicate and refund our money and school supplies. Our 3yo attended this school for less than a month and cried his heart out every day and the teacher did nothing to make him comfortable. I would get a call from school thirty minutes after I drop him off and was asked to go pick him up because my little toddler could not calm himself up! Yes, thats their rule to call parents if kids cant stop crying after thirty minutes!

I enrolled my child in this "school" which is nothing more than a daycare. I noticed at home and in other children's groups that my son was starting to push and hit. The only thing that changed was his attending St. Immanuel, so on several occasions we went to pick up our son at various times to observe the behavior. A observations- The main teacher wasn't there half the time, the aides that were watching the kids would be yelling at the kids for wrongdoings instead of teaching or re-directing as a school should do [and both my husband and I saw this on SEVERAL occasions]. I took this concern to the main office and they informed the teacher. They seemed genuinely interested and concerned, so I took my son back the next week. When I arrived to pick my son up I found the door locked so that the behavior of the staff could not be caught. After this I pulled my son out of school. When the administration asked why we explained that the door were suddenly being locked after we came to them with our concerns. They said the doors were supposed to be locked. We had been sending our son there for almost 5 months and the doors were never locked until we called them out on these issues.

This is a total gem of a preschool. We have had experience with three other programs (all highly reputed in the Heights area), and ILS stands high above the others. It is a small, nurturing environment. ALL the teachers know ALL the kids - everyone is looking out for everyone else. If something happens, they make you aware immediately and work with you to find a solution. From being a potty training partner all the way to helping with reading and handwriting, we have had an excellent experience with all the teachers. Every class has an amazing teacher, the office staff couldn't be more helpful, and the director really cares about the kids (she might take a minute to warm up to, but she is an awesome school leader and wants the best for the kids). Because this used to be a K-8 school, the facilities are great. Multiple playgrounds, a great gym, and access to the chapel for weekly lessons. We have experienced every level from 18 mos - pre-k, and the only regret we have is that we have to leave for kindergarten elsewhere!

My son just graduated from their ECE program and my wife and I couldn't be happier with their excellent program and caring staff. We relocated a few times in the past several years before settling down in Houston, and none of the previous schools he attended made him as happy, involved, while learning so much at the same time (the list includes university affiliated preschools, Catholic school affiliated preschools and Montessori schools). My son went from recognizing alphabets to reading short stories in just a few months, and he frequently expresses how he miss his teacher on weekends and couldn't wait to get back to school on Monday morning. They have a full sized gym where their sports activities are held three times a week (optional, with nominal fee), two large playgrounds, and their classrooms are dedicated to learning activities while recess and free play take place in the large open space right outside the classroom. We really like such an arrangement, since it allows the kids to focus and not bing interrupted by others, compared to "open classrooms". In short, we are so happy with Immanuel Lutheran School and would recommend it to anyone close to the heights/inner loop.

I m very happy with Immanuel Lutheran School. I think it is a great school. The staff is very friendly and care so much about the kids. I m also happy with their educational curriculum and values they teach to the kids.

Immanuel Lutheran School ECE enrolls 18 months to Kindergarten. We used to have 18 months to 8th grade but had to close 1st thru 8th at the end of the 2010-2011 school year. It was a very sad and hard decision since the school has been here for the church congregation and neighborhood since 1927. Yes, we did go through some difficult educational times then (our 1st through 8th grades), but our ECE program has always been exceptional and is thriving thanks to a wonderful staff, administration and of course you parents! Thank you for sharing our school with your friends and family. The school has truly touched the lives of many young people over the years and we thank you for allowing us to touch yours with a Christian education..

My daughter started at Immanuel in the Mother's Day Out program and we couldn't be more impressed with this school! The teachers are loving and very attentive to every need! The staff in the office and other classrooms make a conscience effort to get to know you and your child. There is a real sense of family. Also, there is a curriculum (as much as you can have with toddlers) to teach spanish, colors, numbers ect. It's not just glorified babysitting. My son now attends the MDO program as well! If you are at all nervous about sending your child to school, this is a perfect place for you!

I currently have one child attending and my 5 year old is moving on this month to another school only because Immanuel did not have enough kids for a Kindergarten class (or else she would have been there). We love this school and all of their administrative personnel and teachers. My 3 year old is learning very well and my 5 year old tested out at 93 on the HISD gifted and talented matrix this year. Some of the teachers assistants have babysat for us, and were wonderful. I love hearing my children sing the songs that they learned in school, and they are always excited about their teachers. Every child I ever have will always come here for early learning!!!!

There seems to be some confusion regarding this school. The Immanuel Luthern school at this address is an ECE centre. Some reviews are referring to another school which appears to be for older students. This Immanuel Luthern is specifically for children aged 18 months to pre kindergarten.

My daughter started at 18 months and will be attending preK here next month. I found the school on this site and checked it out because of hearing the "best kept secret in the Heights" comment. We are so happy we found this school! Our family is not religious and this is not the reason we picked it for our daughter. We toured many schools and this is the one my daughter let me put her down in. When my daughter started napping here at 2 years old the teacher would rub her back to help her fall asleep. The loving teachers are a wonderful reason to go here. Over the last couple of years they have made other improvements in security, facilities and technology. They have iPads in all the classrooms and the preK kids get personal ones to use in class. My son is going to have the same teacher my daughter had when he starts the morning program next month at 20 months. This is not a daycare. This is a caing environment to send your children to socialize and learn.

My daughter is in the youngest class so I cannot speak about anything but my experience with this room. My daughter loves it! It is like night and day from our previous daycare. My daughter comes home singing songs I haven't sang to her (ring around the rosies, Jesus loves me, etc). They seem to do a lot of activities (music, art, chapel, sand play, etc) and stimulate them. The teachers are always willing to talk about my child's day. Her teacher said that my daughter is quite so they set aside some time with her to get her to open up. They work on her writing her name, talking about animals, etc. I feel like she gets some individual attention and what is nice is I know they do the same for all the kids. My daughter doesn't cry to be dropped off and is indifferent when I get there (so opposite from my experience in her last school). My daughter did get a bump on her head one day at school and I was immediately called. We have not had ANY problems or bad gut feelings. We highly recommend this school.

I am so lucky to have found a school so close to my home with loving and knowledgable teachers. My child is learning quickly and loves going to school. The teachers spend quality time with the parents as well to keep them informed. The school is overzealous in keeping me informed of concerns or compliments that have regarding my child. People should not write reviews on something they haven't experienced first hand. Immanuel Lutheran is wonderful.

i think this is a great starting place for developing a christian attitude and a loving child. My little one runs full speed in the door every morning with excitment and is very well loved. its like a little family there. He has learned things that hadn't even thought about teaching him! I love this little hidden treasure of a school!
