Im a current student here going into 8th grade I do not like this school the people here are honestly so racist and Im not from this country Im form Asia and I get a lot of rude comments from random people in the hall way I tried to say hi to one person the they just cussed me out . I know Im a student myself but they need to teach the other kids how to behave and show respect. Im just trying to go to school to learn. The chances of finding a nice student here is super rare. Do NOT go to this school its hell.

As a parent, Im very disappointed with how Metz Middle School handled a situation involving my child. Instead of his concerns being taken seriously, he felt ignored and dismissed when he brought it up to the counselor.
Another concern is the lack of transparency around disciplinary decisions. When my child received a punishment, the explanation from administration was vague and didnt clearly explain the reasoning behind it. For students, not understanding why something happened can feel unfair and confusing, and it doesnt help them learn from the situation.
Ive also noticed that some teachers seem to believe that giving excessive amounts of work automatically leads to growth and results. While high expectations are important, overwhelming students does not always help them succeed and can add unnecessary stress.
Middle school is a critical time for students development, and its important that students feel heard, respected, and supported. Based on our experience, Metz Middle School has significant room to improve in how it listens to students and balances academic expectations with student well-being.

My child almost had at accident at school due to its bathroom policies. She came home to me embarrassed and upset telling me that she rushed to get home and couldnt hold it in. They do not care about the childrens safety or health as they say they do. My child does fairly well in school and missing a few minutes in class would not hurt her education as long as everyone uses the bathroom properly. Its not fair that they punish everyone and have restraints for a bodily need.

This school is honestly so racist, Sexist and so unfair, Always picking the teachers sides and never listening to the students, they only listen to the first story and never the 2nd, i got suspended because i was defending myself? they only have the part where i did and not the part where i got assaulted and im not even aloud to press charges?!? this school is bad even in teaching, so many foreign teachers make it hard to learn, ready to leave this school for good.

For starters I am an 8th grade middle school graduate and I would just like to share My experience at grace e metz middle school . I did learn quite a lot I cant help but notice that student are not taken into account in anything
We are ignored when we tell the staff there is a problem unless it directly concerns them for example there is a table there about just enough tables in the cafeteria to fit all student and it was fine until one of them broke and the staff did absolutely nothing all year we were forced to be squished into tables because they refused to fix the table students got little to no repercussions for their actions barring mostly lunch detentions and I cant even go to the washroom without getting interrogated like i was a criminal the only thing that helped in these cases were individual teachers which many were very nice and understanding of students and their struggles
I have personally seen more than a dozen students breakdown in tears and fits of outrage over the schools administrators and their dumb choices to run this pathetic excuse for a school the school liked to do these so called pep rallies which were put in place to boost enthusiasm is the school but the dramatic decrease in quality from my first and second year was simply jaw dropping my first year of middle school pep rallies were filled with the schools marching band and many fun activities for students to participate in it was actually pretty fun until the administration changed and all the joy was sucked right out of the events and the only thing to do at a pep rally was to sit down on the bleachers and watch girls dance in cheerleader outfits for 30 minutes not nothing else a total of one event besides that was held forging those pep rally witch was to play Simon says with the cheerleaders which was not fun In The slightest I had many talks with students over my two years in Metz middle school and all most all agreed that the school as better in there first year but the administration was let go and replaced it was all down hill and the fact that I took time out of my day out to right this review just shows something I have never seen such enthusiasm from students to leave this dumpster fire that we called a school all my days of school were a bitter sweet experience but my last day of Metz was an amazing experience to finally be free from this god awful school I really hope it gets better for all the students skate and I guess thing I want to say is BE BETTER METZ

Though the school could use a cosmetic refresh, it is a good school. The teachers care about the students and put in the extra effort you'd want from them to build relationships with the students that enrich the learning environment.

When my daughter went there (she's a freshman now) I never thought one way or another about the school. But like I said, my son has an IEP for certain reasons and the school doesn't know the meaning of 'working hand in hand' with their students.
Posted: October 19, 2019
I never know if my son is assigned he unless I email the teacher. They usually do it during class.
Posted: October 19, 2019
Like with most schools, you have a few rotten apples in the basket. Currently my son has two teachers that I'm never in contact with.

Admin needs to get there sh*t together especially the new principal. We had an incident and he was going to look into it and give us a follow up call. Well he failed to do that so we went to one of the asst principals who helped a little. I've seen the new principal a few times in the office since then and he's never said anything to me about what happened. Just a 'hello' and 'how are you?' The other 3 asst principals are all wishy washy and I don't trust them.

My son has two SPED classes this year since he has an IEP and so far he's been doing good and the teacher and I are in constant contact.

We had great concerns after reading all the ratings and comments, and we wanted to get this resolved before buying our house. We did speak with the City of Manassas, and we also made an appointment with the Dean of the school before finalizing the purchase and registering our son at Grace E. Metz Middle School. We specifically discussed the ratings and our concerns. If you are looking at schools in Manassas, I urge you to do the same thing. If your child is interested in learning, and if you are ready to support your child, you should not have ANY issues with Grace E. Metz. The Dean and the entire staff do whatever it takes to support your child. It requires for you as a parent to stay engaged, have communication with the school as soon as you notice any potential concerns, and -most importantly- be a supportive parent to your child. We had discussed this with our (new) neighbors also, and they had sent their children to Grace E. Metz without having problems.

Sooo stressful to work for this system. Most teachers I know are overwhelmed and stressed. Pretty sorry I ever applied. Some student groups dominate the school environment by fear and seems like administration does not do well in handling it strongly and fairly. Mrs Buckheit works hard. Others I won't comment about, it's best.

My son has had a pleasant experience at Metz. He comes from Manassas Park and finds that academically, Metz is more challenging. He is in advance classes and I have good communication with most of his teachers. Thank you Metz Middle school!

There is at least one fight a day. There was 7 in one day this year. There's a lot of fowl language spoken all the time, PDA among the students, ANOTHER NEW PRINCIPAL this year!!!! I feel bad for the teachers!! My child's math teach bought a $400 bulb with her own money for the Smart Board in her class room b/c our Supervisor is focus on building this one big industrial looking school that doesn't go with our 'Old Town' town life and look. The teachers can't even make hardly any copies for the kids any more b/x they've been put on a very strict paper use. They have decide our kids don't need to learn how to cook to live and take care of themselves starting next year. That's fun I thought that came in handy at college!!?? There is too many frustating things to write. Until there is new peeps here in Nov.that is the over the Supervisor I would not come to the school system yet. Things have to change. To much of our money is being spent and our children are not being cared for safely!! THANK GOODNESS for the parents that have taken action to protect their children and that indirectly protects the rest of ours by going to the Massasa City Police and pressing charges against the students the are beating up the innocent kids in our school!!! I would like to say to you, "Thank you!! and I am sorry to hear about your situation."

We are military family and my children have gone to many, many schools and this school (and district) is by far hands down the Worst! When we moved here a few years I had child enrolled in Haydon, Metz, and my oldest was at Osborn; horrendous from day one! IF I had ANY other choice none of my children would attend a Manassas City School and I sure hope this helps another family avoid the aggravation and shear torment my children have gone through.

There were lazy teachers and great teachers. Looking at the current teacher directory on their website some bad ones are still there and I'm not familiar with many new ones. An observation is this school, allomg with the whole district continues to have a whole bunch of new teachers every year, not a good sign.

As a former Metz teacher I can support the other comment made here by another teacher. I add, this is not a good school for any teacher or student. Although, I have heard through the grapevine that the new principal ( the 4th in last 4 years) is the best they had. Although, the reason I decided to commemt here after being happily gone to a much better district is that I want to save all you great teachers out there the pain of going through the awful experience of working for a district that doesn't really know what they are doing. dr magorick is the worse thing that could of happend to schools in Mannassas. I won't go into the depressing reasons. Just trust me! Your life will be much happier, as mine now is.

My past employment experience at Metz has been that admin does not support teachers, and student discipline goes on being aweful because they don't know how to handle it.

The whole time I went to Metz, I was bullied. My sister had something written on the bathroom about her, and they didn't even have the courtesy to remove it immeadiately. I was discriminated against my race, and whenever I reported it, they called me a liar. J was threatened, and they told me it was my fault for making the person mad. If you have your child's best interest in mind, do NOT send them to Metz.

The new Principal, has the right attitude for this school. Expect marked improvement in school spirit and performance in 2014-2015.

This school is HORRIBLE we barely learn anything! Most teachers don't care they see someone get slapped and don't do anything only a few teachers actually care about there students and not only the paycheck... Also this may not be about the school but the bus drivers come way to early and you tell the school and they don't do anything! Not even a simple email also you call the principal or even email her and she has never answered... It's a really bad school also to much violence like 2 fights in 1 day! Come on! Also the lunch for the 7th graders is worse than the 8th grade lunch it's not fair... Like I said don't work at this school and don't attend if you want to be safe.

My child was new to MCPS, and he gladly joined Metz for 7-8 grade .To my horror, he was bullied constantly by students. None of his teachers liked him, and his new "friends" were pressuring him to do some shady things. I am with my second child now, and am looking for alternate schools for him. NEVER attend Metz, kids.
Posted: December 8, 2013
Oh this school, honestly so dual toned. The staff vary from: I don't care enough, I care enough, and I forget these kids have other classes. I have had enough, and It's only December. They can't keep a schedule, they can't plan, most can't teach. Sure there are always exceptions, but I have only found a few. The new princpal is worst than the old one. Thank gods for only one more year.

I am a new teacher at MCPS. It is the worse district I've ever worked for. Teachers are tremendously overwhelmed with "new and improved" programs. There is no time for individual class planning, the workload is ridiculously burdensome, there is continuous information to learn which is impossible given the time frame they want you to "get it", and we are motivated by fear. I can see why MCPS has such a high teacher turnover. Don't even think of applying to this district. You will definitely burn out!
Posted: August 29, 2013
Superintendent is great! All the changes I've seen in MCPS are definitely working! Metz have great teachers and a great staff. I am very happy with the new principal too!!
Posted: March 17, 2013
What makes MCPS worse is that the new Superintendent is as worse as they come. MCPS is falling all over; I hope she can do something about it and get rid of the teachers there just collecting a paycheck.
