I love this school my daughter goes to this school and she told me everyone is nice to her. The teachers here are very nice and professional. I personally enjoy this school because my daughter got smarter and very respectful. I personally recommend this school because it has a nice building and nice people in it.

Most of the teachers at this school really do care. The principal cares and tries hard to get the students to set higher standards for themselves. They have tons of resources for students who need extra help especially with SOLS. I do feel the school needs some upgrades since it’s been around forever but other than that, my daughter had a good experience.

I have had several interactions with the front desk at Fred Lynn Middle School, and unfortunately, my experiences have not been positive. The staff often seem unprofessional and lack clear answers to questions. Instead of providing helpful information, they tend to shift the blame onto families rather than taking responsibility for resolving issues. This has made communication frustrating and unproductive.

The front desk staff at the school are rude and very unprofessional. The principal makes no effort to communicate with parents. The teachers think it’s okay to curse at students. There needs to be something done. Students are getting bullied everyday by staff and other students. The only good thing I can say is that the guidance staff do try their best to help the students

Staff in the front desk is super unprofessional and their attitude is so ehhhhh. I went to pick up my daughter for a doctor’s appointment at 2:37pm and they informed me that there’s no pick ups after 2:30pm. So I called because I was unaware of the policy and I asked why they had that policy she was so quick to say” don’t take your frustration on me I don’t make the rules” I never blamed her or accused her about making the rules. I just asked why they had that policy & informed her that I was unaware of it. She stated it was the whole county that had that rule. I told her that’s weird because I pick up my other daughter whenever. I had to cancel my daughter’s appointment last minute. This is the second time I have had an encounter with the front desk & it’s been the same attitude ugly. Please set a better example for our kids.

This school is really bad a lot of fights and the new principal mr romero ruined the school mascot and overly strict on security but I still dont feel safe and the admins usually dont listen or care to what students say I dont recomend to send your child here

Ever since the principle has once again changed hands things have taken a turn for the worst. I am a parent of a student who previously not only has been bullied but the lack of attention the office staff gives aside from the assistant principal Mrs. Berryman it’s a nightmare. That assistant principal is a sweetheart. Switching schools immediately. The current principal vs the previous is soulless and takes credit for things he clearly had no hand in when it comes to a positive moment.

Teachers: there are few good ones and many that as a result of the constant switching over the years, can tell they are pretty much over it. They’ve mostly just given up much like this school needs to.

Bullying: they rather put the bullied out to suffer vs those that are doing the bullying. There’s no follow up on a course of action.

Administration: principal dodges important calls when there’s a concern, getting anyone on the phone during school hrs is a nightmare. Understaffed and it’s Russian roulette on if you’ll get the one with an attitude or the one actually willing to help. So sad the previous principal left. He had a very valid reason but he is missed and the best one this school has had.

If you can I advise finding SOME WAY to transfer your child elsewhere.

My daughter has attended Fred Lynn for the past year. For the most part, we have been completely satisfied with her schooling. Her core classes have been great, she loves her English teacher, Science teacher, Math teacher, etc. Her Spanish teacher has not been the best nor has she learned any Spanish this year at all, but that's the only class that has been not great. The office staff is super friendly and helpful.

Thank you Mr. Brewer and all your team!! This is about to become the best rated Middle school in Prince William County! Don't feel afraid by the older comments (nor rating - it takes time to bring a school to the top): the leadership of this school has changed and for the best. It is a challenging and fair school that is motivated to push to the top ALL of their students, and on top of it your children will get an IB learning teaching and be partying among their swarms. Be ready to have your child be challenged, have fun, do great at school and more importantly get an excellent education because their teachers and principal will never give up on them.

This school has an exciting new principal that my child loves. However, some of the other administrators are terrible. One in particular is the sixth grade administrator this year, who is over my child. This woman was extremely rude to me and my child's language arts teacher when we had a conference. She was extremely disrespectful and lied about what my child did (they weren't in trouble, but she made it out like they were) to the teacher's face in front of me.

Exciting and energetic staff, but this one administrator was already kicked out of her previous school and for some reason she is here now! She needs to leave for this school to succeed!

This school is terrible worst school I have ever been to. The teachers are very rude to the students. They embrace them in front of the entire class and even if they start crying the say more hurtful words. If you switch their class the teacher will say or do anything to not let the parents find out it was the teachers fault. My girl came home crying once about her 4th period extended math teacher. She claims the entire class was laughing at her and her teacher was laughing at her as well . Even her favorite teacher got mad at her.

Fred Lynn is a good school with great people trying to make it even better. If you are zoned for Fred Lynn, and have worries about the school, come visit and see the great things we are doing for yourself. If your child struggles academically we have programs to help. If your child is ready for a challenge, than we have the opportunities to earn high school credit while in middle school.
I have read the other reviews and can only say that I understand that every parent wants the best school for their child. If you are here trying to make that decision, I would urge you to go a few steps further and contact the school, come visit, and meet our great teachers. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Numerous time my child has been picked on, called racist names, been physically assaulted, and nothing gets done. Kids smoking and doing drugs on premises, nothing gets done. My child leans into the aisle on the bus to talk to a friend, and he gets detention. Disgusting. I am so sorry I ever bought a house in this school district.

I am a student in 7th grade and I personally think that Fred Lynn has an extremely bad reputation. The Teachers are set on making the students learn and are trying their best with what they have to work with. Most of the students are Hispanic and Black, but I don't mind. I honestly think that Fred Lynn is trying its best and they are doing well, considering everything.

Yes I am a student. This school is okay. Except for the fact that teachers won't help you that much, and they move too fast with their learning targets. But I really like my school because the staff is working real hard to make our school have a better reputation. Last year, we got superior ratings at an Orchestra Assessment, got high scores on our Sols, AND we won championships for girls and boys jv basketball teams(which we haven't won since 1984). This school lets us go on a camping trip, and they have a new program called Hornet 21 which helps us learn more and they take us on educational field trips like the White House. I am an honor roll student and I am proud to be a Hornet.

I am a parent who brought her child back to Fred Lynn Middle school for various reasons. First, the principal and vice principal are willing to work with parents and share the parents vision for their child. Second, the school administration is very professional and welcoming to both parents and students. Third, the schools teachers are dedicated, compassionate, and easy to communicate with concerning your child. Lastly, they don't wear uniforms anymore and my son could not wait to return to Fred Lynn to be with his friends!

Fred Lynn Middle School has come a long way since I first started teaching there. We have had 4 different principals in the last 9 years and each one was very different. It was difficult as a teacher to understand the expectations and most teachers just tried to do their best for the students. We have a strong admin. team now who are making good choices for our school. The teachers are positive and want our students to be successful. We do need more community involvement from parents. I can teach lessons in school but if students are not doing their homework to practice, they will not learn as much. Every student should be reading every single night, many of our students are below grade level in reading which impacts every class they attend. Please understand, our students are coming to us with a below grade reading level from their elementary school, they do not magically forget how to read when they enter 6th grade. If there was more parent involvement during the younger school age years maybe there wouldn't be such a huge difference in how our children read compared to how children in Lake Ridge read and then students would be more capable of passing their assessments.

I went to Fred Lynn for the entire 3 years and it was unbearable. The kids were mean, that's to be expected, but the staff, with very few exceptions. was uncompassionate, unprofessional, and neglectful. They showed no authority so the worst behaved of the kids ran the school. For a school that stresses a zero-tolerance policy they sure let a lot of stuff slip by. I ended up hiding and skipping school at least once a week because I dreaded every day there. As a result my grades fell dramatically and instead of investigating, instead of checking with my parents to make sure my home life was ok, instead of sending me to a school counselor to make sure I was coping socially, the truancy officer pulled me out of class and threatened to send me to a school for juvenile delinquents. I had never so much as gotten a call home in my entire school career so that sent me into a shock and then a deep depression. In my 2nd year of high school I was diagnosed with PTSD from my middle school years. I'm nearly done with college and I still get anxiety in some classroom settings. I'm going to Canada to finish my schooling and staying so that when I have children they will be far from awful school.

Excellent idea that students have to wear uniforms. It helps discipline and it creates a nicer atmosphere iside the school. I've seen the way girls and boys get dressed to go to some schools and their attire good look nicer for a disco.

Terrible, overcrowded school. We're one week in and they still don't have enough teachers for two of my children's classes. And from my experience, the teachers treat their jobs more casually than professionally...which is probably why student behavior is lacking and no one does anything about it (Dear Lynn administrators: uniforms don't help student behavior, good staff do!). Also, the school was accredited with warning throughout last year and I'm pretty sure they didn't meet the objectives, but the admin has been conveniently ho-hum about the situation. I'm going to let my 8th grader finish up, but I've been trying to transfer my 7th grader out in order to avoid this school for two more years. I'd rather travel a little further in order to give my child a decent education compared to the garbage this school has to offer.

I'm a parent to child at this school my kid gets no help from the teachers because some say if the child doesn't care why should they. That doesn't make any sense you should make that work call the parents say your child isn't trying in class and have the parent come in after school and help and watch their kid. And these uniforms I wish they would get rid of this policy for two reasons number one i liked to spend money on nice clothes for my child not spend for all these uniform requirements and clothes they have to change into to go outside. Just let them go to school in regular clothes and come home and go outside in regular clothes. Number two I'm tired of hearing my child complain about putting on a polo shirt, blue pants, and having to tuck in their shirts and if they don't they get in trouble. Don't they know that some kids with weight problems, tucking in their shirts makes them look bigger then they already are and it's embarrassing and kids make fum of them and it lowers there self-esteem and they get upset. So that is what think of Fred M. Lynn Middle School.

First, the uniforms are inconvenient and ugly. We buy uniforms, which are expensive and a waste of money. I have nice clothes at home that I can't wear because we have to wear the uniforms. Second, the kids are rude and aggressive. They push each other in the hallways and call each other terrible names. No one wants to pay attention in class because the teachers don't seem to care or give much effort. Most of the kids don't know English and can't write well. And, there is a strong division between those who speak English and those who don't. I get made fun of a lot because I am shy. Third, I failed my SOL's this year because I did not get extra help. I have trouble with math and no one wanted or was able to help. No one wanted to spend time with me. I rarely got homework to take home for math either. I worry that I won't be able to pass to the next grade - especially when I leave here. Lastly, the school boundaries are very strange. I have to walk over a half a mile to school in the morning through a wooded area and across the back of the school yard. It is scary because of all the crime around here and I got really wet and cold last year because of the bad weather.

This is the worst school in the county, and needs to be re-structured to improve. The students have no interest in learning, and there are no consequences for poor behavior. There is always a turnover in teachers. More resources are needed for teachers and students.

This school is totally unsatisfactory and should be closed down. One of the first concerns it that it is located a few yards, from a Day Labor site. There are groups of men hanging around a convenience store and this could pose a hazard to the children in the school. Secondly, the school is not adequately resourced or staffed with books, computers, competent instructors and other learning tools. The school lacks diversity, mostly hispanic and black students. The schools overall performance grades are one of the lowest in the county and severe intervention should happen in order to turn this around. If not, the children attending this school will be so far behind their peers from other schools, they will not be able to compete when they get to high school. The net result is that will probably be a statistic by just droppinig out.

I am a current employee at Fred M. Lynn. The administrative staff is awful. There is no consistent communication between the administration and the staff. Two staff members who ask the same question are given two different answers by the same person. The students are not held responsible for their own actions. Some of the staff are afraid of the students. These are middle school students!

My first year at this school was horrible, starting with my interview. The school was dark, no windows, and depressing. When the principals met me they didn't shake my hand because they were too busy eating chips. I love teaching and I love my students, but many of them have told me my class is the only decent one they have and that their teachers don't care about them and are not knowledgeable about their subject matter. What I dislike most about this school is the negative work environment and the way it sets a bad example for the students. Many of the veteran teachers here have never even said "hi" or "how's it going" to me and avert their eyes in the hallway. Many of the teachers are cronies for the principal and report the slightest things to her in order to gain some kind of brownie points. The new teachers are treated like they are worthless and many will not return for a second year. I believe this year the school had to hire about 40 near teachers because so many left last year. Also the current principal is extremely negative. The students are yelled at constantly by the teachers and are not treated with respect. These students deserve better and I hope things change!
