I know that Lake Ridge has better teachers than most middle schools in the PWCS County, their Cafeteria is big, giving new kids places to sit by themself while they try to figure out on how to make friends. enviroment is really positive, and making sure that students have the most fun, and learn as much as possible while attending the school. Time flies in lake ridge, with things to be busy on, fun projects, you know you will be happier than ever. Elective classes are pretty big, letting extra new comers get some space. The school actually cares about the students that participate in band, chorus, and orchestra. Each semester, there are concerts, that students actually put work into. Teachers actually care about the student's learning and make sure that students are using their full potential. To be honest I am sad when ever there is a holiday, because I have so much fun at lake ridge.

This school is considered the best middle school in the county, which is indicative of the need to do better with the middle schools in Prince William County. My first child who attended was in the autism program. He had made incredible strides in elementary school. Unfortunately, in middle school, he back slid. It took two years in high school to get him back to where he was when he started middle school. The program was mismanaged and he was warehoused with other autistic children with no real effort put behind his social skills nor academics. My second child, who is neurotypical, hated the school. The lack of discipline, the non-challenging academic work, the lack of proper communication from the Orchestra department became incredibly frustrating to him by the end of his time there. He is excited to move on to high school, and put this middle school behind him. It was an awful experience all around. It's a shame because the elementary school was amazing, and the high school is pretty great so far.

The Spanish teacher doesnt do anything
WOULD NOT RECCOMEND TAKING SPANISH
TAKE FRENCH YOU PARTYS AND MAKE FRENCH FOODS
Complaints:
She doesn't even teach the class, and only gives out packets too occupy the class while doing stuff on her computer and not paying attention to the class. My son has learned NOTHING from Spanish this year! And since the old Spanish teacher went on maternity leave she took over her class.

Schools Pretty good. teachers are very nice, execpt only a few arent, but the huge thing is, students who are bad, dont get in a alot of trobule. the students only get a small light talk. this results in bad students being bad again and again. a kid yelled shut up to a teacher nd got no punishment. very kind staff but they need to start being more harsher.

Most of the teachers are very nice, the problem is how the students act. They are homophobic and racist. Fights also occur often. The mixing bowl is also VERY crowded. I also think that the principal doesnÂ’t give the bad students a harsh enough punishment.

very racist and homophobic and ableist . slurs are being thrown around left and right and all they get is a slap on the wrist Especially from the administration. there was a whole racist instagram account about the principal and we figured out how it was and nothing happened to them. like they arenÂ’t shaping them for high school.

It was an adjustment but it has improved over the last year. Some teachers need to go but others are great. Principal coffees have been very effective and has allowed me to voice my opinion and question things I don't understand.

Awesome school. If your student gravitates to the negative then thats where they will be. Nut if you as a parent do what you need to do to keep your child in line then AWESOME!!! Dont blame the school for your lack of parenting. I LOVE IT!!

A very crowded school with disinterested teachers and inefficient staff at best. We're new to the area and almost shocked seeing how things work in this school. Teachers appear to be driven towards test results instead of teaching which, in turn, causes most students/parents scrambling for external tutors to keep up. Most teachers appear overworked and unable to allocate sufficient time needed for students which essentially makes them ineffective. Some teachers play favorites to better students and are unwilling to help struggling ones succeed.
It should also be noted that the school is across the street from WHS which is notorious for gang violence and drugs. This proximity makes this school vulnerable to similar issues as well.
We would've moved ours to a different school if we had a choice.

This school is OK if you have a great student. Good luck if, however, your child needs any help. Most of the teachers are not there to teach instead, they expect kids to be able to perform with minimal or no efforts from them. I will not recommend this school.

This Lake Ridge area is extremely over crowded and so are its schools. Lake Ridge Middle School has over 1200 students, 6-8 grades, while other middle schools in the county have under 900. The over-stressed, over-worked teachers and the average administration make this school hectic, chaotic and undesirable. Bullying is a HUGE problem since the school is too small and understaffed. Hopefully, PWCS will get their over population under control in ALL their schools, especially in the Lake Ridge area as it once was the place to attend in PWCS. I'm rating the teacher quality low not because they're bad teachers but because they just can't effectively teach 160 students. 40 students to 1 teacher is just too much.

My family is having a different LRMS experience. Bullying and fights occur more often than they should. The teachers are average. My children over the years have needed extra support. In the three years that we have been here, my children have yet to have a teacher that they felt comfortable asking for extra help. The teachers often refer my children to NJHS peer tutors. Last year my second oldest was a member of NJHS tutoring his peers but, receiving private tutoring at home. Between my husband, myself, and an expensive tutor, my children meet the standards, and on testing they often pass all the SOL's advanced. LRMS is not the reason behind my children's success. Compared to when my oldest child, who is now in college, went to a Fairfax middle school, I am putting in way too much work at home. When I email, I often get a response back from LRMS teachers within 72 hours, versus the usual 24 hour response time of the Fairfax teachers. And the World Language Program is a joke. If you are considering the World Language program, please talk to some parents first. On paper the program seems great. The presentation they give to parents is awesome. Talk to parents first.

Lake Ridge is really a nice school. As with all schools, the skill and the involvement of the teachers varies, but for the most part I think they do a great job. The principal and the front office staff are great. We've had a few teachers who were a little slow in keeping their webpages and the parent portal updated, but overall my daughter's transition to 6th grade went smoothly. The world languages program is also very nicely run and a great deal of fun.

It looks like this review process needs an update....2013! My 4 children have all gone to Lake Ridge Middle School. Number 4 is there now as a 7th grader. Most all the teachers are VERY interested in helping each individual student reach their potential. If you have a problem....seek help. Don't just stew about it. The Principal and teachers will work to resolve what ever issue you have. Parent involvement is ALWAYS welcomed....though I have seen it greatly decline in new parents helping in the last year or two. I feel there could be ALOT more homework given to the students to prepare them better for the rigorous schedule a pre AP cirriculum requires in high school...but overall I think the teachers, parents and office staff are GREAT and welcoming! GREAT SCHOOL!
